Does he have any legitimacy anymore?

He's like the Al Sharpton of the Right. Everytime he opens his piehole, stupidity occurs.

I wish it was that time of the week when the entire American public gets to give him a cockpunch

2006-01-12 06:27:17 PM
Read his statement carefully. He never says that he was incorrect in saying God punished Sharon. He said he didn't want to offend anyone. He's sorry he pissed off people for telling the truth That's what he's saying.

My remarks from the other thread:

Robertson has always turned around and apologized later... like when he agreed with Falwell that 9/11 was the fault of gays, the ACLU, and the like... or the time when he said we should assassinate Hugo Chavez... or the time he threatened God's wrath on the people of Dover, PA for voting out the pro-ID school board... or any of the many many other times he's said a completely asshat thing and been called to the carpet for it.

The fact that he keeps on saying stupid, asshatish things means that he doesn't actually repent of his words. The disease of fundamentalism is too deep in him.

Fundamentalism kills. Unfortunately, it usually kills other people.

"I'm really you thought I was insensitive."

Non-apologies are a pet peeve of mine.

Cute little ploy to attempt to save his precious Jesusland project.

No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.
-Some guy Pat Robertson hates

Subject: Pat Robertson

We hate this guy and hope he dies very soon. That is pretty much it.

still, he has his millions to console him. And Jesus, which is nice.

I think this is a repeat (of "Jesusland"), but I understand how submitter and admins could have a hard time telling.

Any guesses as to who he insults next? We should start a pool, maybe offer a sliding scale of odds on various possibilities...$5 to get in, maybe as much as a 10:1 payoff...?

2006-01-12 06:41:49 PM
mistersite "... or the time when he said we should assassinate Hugo Chavez ..."

Not entirely accurate, mistersite.

Hugo Chavez is a troll who constantly claims that the US is out to get him, and that we are going to invade his country, assassinate him, this, that, the other and whatever ...

and Robertson was responding to the latest comment from Chavez when he claimed again that W was going to assassinate him, and Robertson's reply was pretty much "You think so? well maybe we should take him up on that offer." So he was basically calling his bluff. Most people who bother to read past the CNN headline figured that out.

It's not like Robertson woke up one day and said "I think that the US should assassinate Hugo. Why? Cause I don't like the SOB, that's why."

Still, he should be smart enough to shut the fark up, this quote of his has been mis-represented so many times that people actually believe the version out there must be true.

Everything else, however ...

/this post was brought to you from the "At least get your shieat right" department.

I know what he said... I simply don't see a substantive difference between the actual text of his statement and "we should assassinate Hugo Chavez."

Israel needs to stick to their guns on this one. Banning this corksoaker from the Holy Land is the best punishment I can think of for him and, as a bonus, will make the Holy Land that much more Holy.

are the right-wingers on fark in denial over robertson and his fellows? pat and the others who hold similar views, are absolutely fundamental to all of the republican, religious wedge issues

21-7-b, Robertson needs to go away, he needs to STFU.

I for one want Jesusland to be built. I've been imagining the possibilities of the theme park since yesterday. Just think of the rides like "Decent Into Hell" that you'll miss out on, let alone the fun tshirts to bring home for friends and family, if old Pat doesn't get his dream made into a reality.

2006-01-12 07:03:33 PM
sorry? rather than make a comment that carries no weight whatsoever, if you have a serious point to make, i would suggest that you try to deny my claim

another example, they had that ted haggard nutcase on dawkins' look at religion (that was discussed to some length in a thread on a guardian article). these people are not normal. none of them - and these are the people building the 'moral' platform day in and day out that bush relies on

just look at robertson - funded by a number of the usual right-wing backers, sells his network to murdoch for $$$, could even have had a damned good shot at the presidency in 88

these are the people who aredragging america backwards to satisfy the republican need for wedges

it's time that you faced the music, thomas, not just pat robertson

2006-01-12 07:07:05 PM
look at ralph reed jr - now up to his neck in scandal regarding abramoff, but he's been playing by his own rules his whole life. he was executive director of pat robertson's christian coalition for years and he's still using the exact same cheap appeals to religion

face it, tgot. pat robertson truly represents your party

Take a walk
out the gate you go and never stop
past all the stores and wig shops
quarter in a cup for every block
and watch the buildings grow
smaller as you go

Down the tracks
beautiful McMansions on a hill
that overlook a highway
with riverboat casinos and you still
have yet to see a soul

Jesusland
Jesusland

Town to town
broadcast to each house, they drop your name
but no one knows your face
Billboards quoting things you'd never say
you hang your head and pray

for Jesusland
Jesusland

Miles and miles
and the sun goin' down
Pulses glow
from their homes
You're not alone
Lights come on
as you lay your weary head on their lawn

Parking lots
cracked and growing grass you see it all
from offices to farms
crosses flying high above the malls
A longer walk

through Jesusland
Jesusland

As Robertson gets older, he will inevitably get some kind of illness or ailment. It is at that point that anybody with any sense of right and wrong, should tell Pat that it is god smiting him for the fact that he is the world's biggest douchebag (and that he probably has a massive stash of kiddie porn)

Of course if he doesn't get sick at any point, then it just proves that he is the spawn of Satan.

The Sea of Gallilee was shining like a national guitar
I am following the river down the highway through the cradle of the Crusades
I'm going to Jesusland, Jesusland, Nazareth, Israel
I'm going to Jesusland
Poor boys, pilgrims with families and we are going to Jesusland
My travelling companion is nine years old, the child of my first marriage
I've reason to believe we both will be received in Jesusland

She comes back to tell me she's gone
As if i didn't know that
As if i didn't know my own bed
As if i'd never noticed the way she brushed her hair from her forehead

She said losing love is like a window in your heart
And everybody sees you're blown apart
Everybody feels the wind blow

I'm going to Jesusland, Jesusland, Nazareth, Israel
I'm going to Jesusland
Poor boys, pilgrims with families and we are going to Jesusland

My travelling companions are ghosts and empty sockets
Looking at ghosts and empties
I've reason to believe we all will be received in Jesusland

There's a girl in new york city who calls herself the human trampoline
Sometimes when i'm falling, flying, tumbling in turmoil
I say oh so this is what she means

I see losing love is like a window in your heart
And everybody sees you're blown apart
Everybody feels the wind blow
Ooh oh oh
Into Jesusland
Into Jesusland

I'm going to Jesusland
For reasons i cannot explain some part of me wants to see Jesusland
I may be obliged to defend every love every ending
Or maybe there's no obligations now
Maybe i've reason to believe we all will be received in Jesusland

I'm going to Jesusland
Ooh oh oh oh
Jesusland, Jesusland, i'm going to Jesusland

Ummn, doesn't anyone else want to go to Jesusland? Sheesh, it would be the best. Instead of posing for Kodak moments with Mickey, Minnie and Goofie, you could get your mug snapped with Jesus, one of the apostles, Mary Magdalene, the Virgin Mary, numerous angels, Balaam's ass....I could go on but I already invited my son and whatever S.O. he might have at that point to come with me in ten years time. I'm salivating at the idea of doing Jesusland while wasted. It so totally beats trying the same thing at Disneyland.

C'mon folks, forgive Pat so he can build Jesusland. Pleeeeezzz!!! If only for meeeee!!!

i'd say pat robertson represents a significant chunk of the republican party. not a majority though. in 88 when he ran for the nomination he had to post bodyguards to stop people who wanted to caucus for bush in michigan from getting into the precincts.

still making no effort to deny anything? no surprises there - you normally add nothing substantive, but choose instead to just make a bunch of noise and hope that someone else bails you out

SilentStrider of course you are. while you continue to identify as a republican, you have to recognize that he is an absolutely key component in creating and maintaining the religious wedge issues. robertson represents the republican party's policies - the problem is that he has become well-known enough to be held up as an example of republican evangelical stupidity. but the fact remains that he is only voicing commonly held beliefs

2006-01-12 07:37:26 PM

the_gospel_of_thomas: ... not really, no.

Then we'll continue to associate you with Pat Robertson. Robertson represents the deal with the devil the Republicans made in the late '60s and early '70s when they embraced the elements of the country that were still outraged by integration. The strategy of motivate the nuts to advance the causes of the Rockafeller Republicans has been in play ever since. Sadly, you guys are actually putting the nuts in charge these days. Bad idea.
