If it works in the military, why not in prisons. Being incarcerated ain't supposed to be fun. While we're at it, take away cable tv and weights (yeah, we need violent offenders to get in shape). They should also do more work. You know, the type illegal immigrants are doing now.

It's a stupid idea and will result in more "hot injecting" than "hot racking."

Screw shifts...just let them sleep in the same cots simultaneously. And they need only 8 hours of sleep, so that's 3 shifts a day, 2 prisons per cot per shift, 6 times the savings.

Inmates on Rotation A will have the bed from 2100-0600. Inmates on Rotation B will have the bed from 0400-1300

Um, how about not putting people into jail for minor drug offenses? Seems like there could be a lot of space for rapists, murderers, robbers, you know, people who actually cause harm to other people. But, oh no, drugs! Forget the fact that humans have been altering their states of consciousness for, hmmm, ever.

I sincerely hope you ar3e just being superbly ironic, because comparing our highly disciplined en and women in the armed service to common convicts is stupid beyond simple ignorance. And blatantly racist.

In a comedy, this is the point where the warden would say, "Hey, that's just crazy enough to work" before the chaos ensues.

Yup vartian being quite ironic. Except the part about cable tv, weights and using inmates as cheap labor; I'm quite serious about those points.

Indeed, when they're sleepng in the same bed at DIFFERENT times, what could possibly go wrong?

Maybe I'm a moron, but what's racist about suggesting that inmates do manual labor and sleep in shifts? Really, I'm clueless. Is there a race that sleeps in shifts or something?

Ok, in my experience (I mean..that of a friend) of a brief time in county jail..."lock down" meant everyone get on your bunk and don't move or else...in emergencies.

WTF would they do for lock down in a prison!?

the ideal prison to cut costs and make them want to stay the heck out..

6' by 8' cells one bed. one metal toilet. treadmill in floor for exercise. one sink combined on top of toilet(water is used for toilet flushes).floresant lighting tuned to natural sun spectram. solid front wall with cage door and small opening for food tray.

and classical music played 24 hours a day to discourage chatting between cells(mozart, beetoven). yes. thats right. they don't leave the cell except for vital medical treatment. and any visitors can come to door of cell.

is there a costs savings? it may come out even. but no chatting or effing or fighting or any tv or radio or newspapers. civil rights can still be enforced so no cruelty.but no flinging crap at gaurds.

The USA, bastion of Freedom that it is, has made its stance on prisons and prisoners known through Abu Ghraib.

We have become what we supposedly stand against.

In a country with 30-40% unemployment and deep religious and political divisions we buy information about suspected terrorists/insurgents/whatever and hold them indefinitly and torture them with little to no evidence or secret evidence.

That sounds like a bad system that rewards liars and people with a score to settle.

2006-01-11 05:55:59 PM
Make them live out in tents like arizona.

2006-01-11 05:56:49 PM
Ugh. This country has got to learn to deal with problems in a way OTHER than shoving them where we can't see them.
Seriously, our prison system is brutal, archaic and inhumane. We need to decide what we're trying to do with it- are we trying to stop crime, or just punish criminals?

racist? huh? Or are you the type who uses "that's racist" to mean "I disagree". I've always disliked that usage. For example:

A> Mexico is north of the United States
B> THAT'S RACIST!!!1!ONE!ONE

Ferruz's post made perfect sense to me.

In my opinion though, convicts should at least have access to a well-stocked library and training programs. TV is like crack for the brain, but a bit of learning would seem like a good way to spend time in prison.

Why can't more people think like you. Prison should be a cage you go into -- alone -- until your sentence is up. No entertainment. Bread and water. That's it.

And then only send real criminals to jail. Use fines and public service for 'soft' crimes if you must.

2006-01-11 05:58:08 PM
Considering all the pervs and sex-starved guys in prison, I wouldn't want to sleep in another guy's bed. Where do you think the guys in prison stash their used kleenexes if they can't throw them under the bed? This whole idea is disgusting.

Likuid000, How about we make prison something other than a vacation and a training seminar. Like theeagle said, prison needs to make people want to stay out. Hell, the mere thought of prison kept me from doing a lot of stupid things growing up. For some people it seems to be like a Shriner's Convention. I say rack 'em up!

2006-01-11 06:02:47 PM
If get sent to prison, and they make you "hot bunk" with another inmate, then just make sure you leave the bed as funky as gross as possible. Presto -- you have a bed all to yourself.

...Unless your cellmate actually enjoys manstink. In that case you're farked (more than just figuratively).

Congratulations. It's been a long time since someone pissed me off that much.

Let's get one thing straight, shall we: CRIMINALS ARE HUMAN. They eat, they drink, they breath and they bleed. Yes, they've made mistakes. Some of them had reasons, some of them did not. But there is no reason whatsoever to treat them like animals. You think that your "plan" would make things better? Of course it wouldn't. It might make them feel miserable, but if that's your only goal you have a lot more problems than they do. Look it up, man- the prisons that show some respect to inmates and give them a second chance WORK. There are fewer breakouts, fewer riots, and far more rehabilitation.

The way this country handles it's penitentiaries makes me sick. The poor sods get ground down till they are as low as they're treated, while millionaire assholes just have to say they're sorry before they go back to the golf court.

2006-01-11 06:03:46 PM
WTF?

Don't prisoners already share their beds anyway?
