Is there a phone sex angle to this story?

2006-01-10 10:50:13 PM
he gave 70 million 3 years ago. the funny part is he had to donate to equestration, track, ... to equalize for women's sports to equalize for title 9.

He is helping the citizens of Oaklahoma, by keeping their young black men in sports and out of crime for up to 4 years.

/Yes, I am trolling.

2006-01-10 10:52:11 PM
Can you imagine the long term benefits if this money went to academic scholarships? Or helping building a medical school? Or donated to a science department?????

Great. Well at least OSU will have some nice new synthetic turf. Good grief.

2006-01-10 10:52:48 PM
What's the motivation behind giving so much money to an athletic program, besides naming rights? Sex from the cheerleaders?

2006-01-10 10:53:13 PM
Won't someone think of the poor college athletes???

ctyt: Earn a few billion and spend it as you wish?

Sigh. "Spend it as you wish" doesn't mean "immunity from criticism as to the exercise of one's judgment."

2006-01-10 10:54:41 PM
Wow. What a amazing waste of money.

2006-01-10 10:55:42 PM
Well, the money will still go towards creating jobs in constructing those facilities. That's a plus.

He didn't have to give any money at all.

2006-01-10 10:55:55 PM
ctyt

reading comprehension my friend.... AV didn't say asshole couldn't spend his money as he wished. AV said asshole is an asshole because of how he spent it...

Now back to your Cliff Notes on Ayn Rand silly boy...

Wow, what a waste of money that could have actually helped some people

If most of the money is being spent building new athletics facilities, then I'd say it would be a big help to people in that area who work in construction etc.

2006-01-10 10:58:34 PM
Wow. I thought I was gonna be the only one to think that the money coulda been spent on something a little more beneficial, like, you know, learning and stuff....

2006-01-10 11:00:20 PM
hey, promising recruit! Did you hear about our brand new state of the art training facility?
Um...yeah, pretty cool. Can you move it to LA so I only have to fly in for games?
Um...No.
Well...your school is still in oklahoma, right?
right.
Can you pay me?
Of course!
See you in the fall!
/wouldn't mind seeing boomer getting beat every year, though.

In other news, 20,000 people starved to death due to malnourishment today.

2006-01-10 11:01:13 PM
Disgusting. What a total waste of money. Why not spend all the money on, oh, academics? Maybe then people can leave Oklahoma with some measure of an acceptable education, rather than the memories of competing in a Division II program.

Sigh.

2006-01-10 11:02:18 PM
What city is this Oklahoma St. in, and since when do streets have athletic programs?

That's gonna be one fancy basketball court.

2006-01-10 11:02:33 PM
Is this somehow Bush's fault?

How rich should the ultra rich be allowed to get?

2006-01-10 11:03:46 PM
RanDomino might be the only one who gets it.

2006-01-10 11:04:09 PM
That's pretty astounding to say the least. You do have to realize that Redneck Billionaire is surely going to get some hot football player secks.

2006-01-10 11:05:39 PM
I think Babe Ruth getting traded from the Red Sox to the Yankees was a bigger donation.

2006-01-10 11:05:53 PM
Fark college sports. College sports is the most meaningless, corrupt, useless bullshiat institution ever.

2006-01-10 11:08:13 PM
I was in the OSU football locker room several years ago, before practice. By locker room standards, it was a palace; stereo booming, huge TVs, nice carpeting, wide open seating. Then you go around around a corner into like a cramped hallway. That's where the lockers for the black players were.

/Leave a fortune to an athletic program? No sir, I wouldn't do it.

2006-01-10 11:08:13 PM
$165 million dollars

That's kind of a double uh neg... uh. thing.

It should read:
$165 million
OR
165 million dollars

2006-01-10 11:11:56 PM
Remember, every dollar spent on athletics is ten dollars that could have been spent on academics.

2006-01-10 11:11:58 PM
That's $100 million more than our entire campaign. Yeesh.

/We did get our largest gift ever recently--$160 million less than this guy's gift

2006-01-10 11:12:42 PM
I'm sure that even now, that same billionaire is sitting at a desk, crying because someone on the internet is upset about where he chose to donate his money. Being fabulously rich means you can piss your money away in whatever fashion you feel appropriate without having to care what anyone thinks. If even one kid benefits by snagging an extra sports scholarship and uses it for a degree and a real job later on in life, then good on the billionaire who provided it.

2006-01-10 11:13:08 PM
And when he dies some corporation will donate money and the stadium will have their name.

2006-01-10 11:13:16 PM
this isn't how i'd throw my millions around, if i had that much - but it isn't a bad way to "invest" charitably in a university.

the realm of sports at a particular college is basically the biggest - and pretty much only - draw for outside community involvement. it's a way for smaller schools to make a name for themselves and draw other interest.

like Las Vegas. sure, some of the casinos on the strip are downright silly. billions of dollars to create fake jungles and shiat. but do you really think the city would be as robust as it is today if those billions were spent on libraries? that's just the way it is, folks.

2006-01-10 11:13:58 PM
I'm never one to look down on another person's generosity, but it pains me to think of all the other ways this money could have helped the university.

2006-01-10 11:15:04 PM
SeanO: Disgusting. What a total waste of money. Why not spend all the money on, oh, academics? Maybe then people can leave Oklahoma with some measure of an acceptable education, rather than the memories of competing in a Division II program.

Oklahoma State is Division I is almost all sports.

College sports are a good thing. Sports are natural character builders that prepare people for the future, and good athletic programs attract students as well as bring in a lot of money, which goes to research and building academic programs.

Anyone who thinks kids colleges should abolish athletic programs, and kids should just go there for four years and spend every moment learning and nothing else is fricken CRAZY if they think that'll produce a successful person. Those kids are the ones that normally burn out.

I hear that they're pursuing senior B. Cancer for women's track.

2006-01-10 11:17:26 PM
that's nice and all, but seriously... sports?

2006-01-10 11:17:50 PM
aerojockey: Remember, every dollar spent on athletics is ten dollars that could have been spent on academics.

If you're being sarcastic, excuse me for missing it, but that statement is complete bullshiat.

2006-01-10 11:18:41 PM
How much of that is tax deductible?

2006-01-10 11:19:03 PM
Sports are natural character builders that prepare the eleven guys on the team people for the future

Fixed it for ya.

2006-01-10 11:19:37 PM
On one hand, it is his money to give as he wishes. On the other, it's his money to give.

Here's to Oklahoma winning something.

2006-01-10 11:20:42 PM
Oklahoma Saint athletic program?

2006-01-10 11:21:00 PM

Baloney. Many private schools and universities have an atheletic department that is next to nothing. Intramural sports dominate the campus. These are the schools that put out an unusually large proportion of sucessful graduates because the students are there to learn.

2006-01-10 11:22:24 PM

T. Boone is richer than Gates ever thought of being and has been for a very long time. He donates to most anything he deems worthy. Just 'cause you haven't heard of him doing it, doesn't mean he doesn't. I met him a long time ago when Pott. country had major drought. He helped the farmers save their farms and ranches. And didn't ask for anything in return...He's a nice man.

2006-01-10 11:30:28 PM
of all the generous things to do with your money....

*sigh*

2006-01-10 11:36:39 PM
I go to oklahoma state.

The classrooms are very crappy, small desks, and the projectors/overheads (yes we still use overheads lol) don't work 90% of the time. And 80% of the teachers don't speak english. If they would just throw a portion of that to academics we would be in decent shape..

2006-01-10 11:38:11 PM
It's amazing how all the farkers without large amounts of money know exactly how someone with large amounts of money should spend it.

2006-01-10 11:38:29 PM
>>T. Boone is richer than Gates ever thought of being and has been for a very long time.

Richer in what way?
