Do you have some sort of woodwin instrument handy?

Ooops forgot to say LGNDIT.
Anyway, my friend drove her daughters 7' boa to L.A. and it got itself in her dashboard and won't come out. She can't drive the car like that and she wants to come home to NorCal. Two herpetologists from the L.A. Zoo have already tried to extract the Boa with no success.

Any ideas?

2006-01-07 09:48:08 PM
Damn. I just used to use a dead rat to get my snake out. If he just ate though I have no idea. Could try it anyways.

CO2 fire extinguisher. They *hate* that stuff.

I'd say she's in for a long wait. May be 2-3 months before it comes out to eat again.

Creme brulee torch? According to Jon Voigt they don't like fire.

Really? Is it foamy? Would it make a mess?

Hair dryer set on cool - they're sensitive to air moving around.

If anyone would like to practice extracting a 7'' snake from somewhere, let me know.

No advice, but wishing you the best of luck!

Wow.

Oh man, I could use that boa. I have a mouse in my car somewhere and I have no idea where it is. Really.

Do you live in Los Angeles? Maybe we could work something out.

i think Krissikins may be on to something. try blowing some cold air in there.

It's the "type C" extinguisher - - if it's got an A or a B on it, you'll get the foam, I think.

/there must be a fireFarker out there tonight...

Shake a box of rats and call it's name?

2006-01-07 09:55:44 PM
make it cold in there. the snake will leave to find warmth. or, put one of those reptile hotplate things where it can sense it. like on the seat.

2006-01-07 09:56:02 PM
This is worth greenlighting, if only for the collective cry of, "WTF?" from the Liters.

Krissikins The Avenger: Hair dryer set on cool - they're sensitive to air moving around.

I will suggest that but part of the problem is that it became wedgeed in very tightly when the zoo dudes tried to pull her out and very little of her skin is exposed.

2006-01-07 09:56:33 PM
well, I am so bored that I googled "coaxing a snake" and found a story saying a guy had the same problem as your friend and left his car out in the sweltering sun and the snake came out.

/Turn the bass on the car radio WAAAAYYY down and the volume WAAAAYYY up. Maybe it will become uncomfortable from the 'thumpa thumpa' and slither out.

//Surpised myself that I even though of that.

Wouldn't turning a can up compressed air upsidedown do the same thing? It would certainly motivate his ass with the cold

2006-01-07 09:58:08 PM
I heard snake tastes like chicken.

2006-01-07 09:59:15 PM
Maybe you can lure it out with some baked goods?

'Cause I hear that certain kinds of snakes don't want none unless you've got buns, hon.

2006-01-07 09:59:34 PM
Kitwilly: left his car out in the sweltering sun and the snake came out.

The car can't be driven - perhaps it could be towed somewhere that's sweltering in January. Maybe South America?

2006-01-07 10:00:09 PM
munchkinette, I used to have two living in my car. Eventually they came out and were delivered to my snake.

Oooooh I like that. I wonder of the stereo still works?

2006-01-07 10:00:48 PM
Wow... Just... wow.

Things snakes dont like.

Alcohol, Cold, excessive vibrations. (Although the latter is a personality thing)

Hows about taking some dash components off. Subarus are not hard to do that with. (Although getting help on a saturday night might be hard.. check one of the subaru msg boards and see if you can find an expert)

2006-01-07 10:00:50 PM
What about playing that flute thing.

2006-01-07 10:01:30 PM
How about water from the hose? Snake may think its safe place is going to fill with water and search for higher ground.

2006-01-07 10:02:09 PM
I wonder of the stereo still works?

If it doesn't, set a ghetto blaster on the dashboard and do the same thing.

2006-01-07 10:02:43 PM
People used to get snakes out of holes by sticking a water hose down the hole. But the snake sounds really scared. Might have to just leave it alone for a bit until it decides it's safe to come out.

2006-01-07 10:02:43 PM
Alacritous: ICE. grab a couple bags of ice.

I think it might take more than a couple of bags of ice to chill the entire inside of a Subaru dashboard In L.A. but I will suggest it.

2006-01-07 10:03:54 PM
get a bigger boa costricter that'll eat it and come out when it's done?

Krissikins The Avenger: But the snake sounds really scared.

Yeah she probably is scared or just full of food and in a cozy little cave and ready to settle in for the winter.

2006-01-07 10:04:18 PM
It occurs to me that for a 7' boa to fit inside a dashboard so comfortably that it doesn't want to move, there has to be a helluva lot of wasted space inside that dashboard.

Are you sure it isn't stuck?

quickdraw: I think it might take more than a couple of bags of ice to chill the entire inside of a Subaru dashboard In L.A. but I will suggest it.

you don't have to freeze it out. just create a contrast. cold here, warm there. snakes prefer warm to cold. especially if it's eaten recently.

2006-01-07 10:04:39 PM
I think the absolute best thing you can do is get two herpetologists from th--what? Oh. I got nothin'.

2006-01-07 10:05:21 PM
I'm wondering why it wasn't in a cage and how it got into the dashboard.

Take the dash apart?
