Say Mods, this is pretty much past its sell-by date, don't ya think?

Well, I never saw it anywhere else. Guess I'm just out of the cool kids' loop.

This has been pretty big in the Bay Area for the past few days.

If they would have treated them like their dogs you wouldn't have heard about this.

Well, they are autistic. I'd think the pets would seem more human than the kids.

The dad should be left alone in his cell with Bruno for a couple of days....

I just completely do not understand where this train of thought comes from. Who wakes up and says "Fark the kids, the 9 year old can watch himself and his brother". It makes my head hurt.

2006-01-07 12:46:27 AM
Un-farking-believable!! Why do the people who aren't ready to be parents always have children?? Oh, and instead of letting them blame this on whatever, can we please get back to the concept of personal responsibility??

Luckily the grandparent of the mother (It was the father and step-mother that left them alone, the mother died in 2003), wants to gain custody. I hope she does.

Those two idiots need to spend a long time in a dark cell. There is absolutely no excuse for leaving small children alone for days so you can go on vacation.

Maybe they saw "Home Alone" and thought, "Hey, he did okay by himself."

Tell me again why we make people get a license to drive a car but we let them breed without one?

stiletto_the_wise: Tell me again why we make people get a license to drive a car but we let them breed without one?

Because the way we elect leaders, we'd get the dumbest dictator ever.

2006-01-07 12:51:36 AM
Good grief. I hope Grandma gets custody and the 2 useless "parents" rot. They don't deserve children, and they certainly don't deserve the title "parents" either.

second time they'd done this within a year according to the older brother. They left them alone for a week before.

Step parents can be so evil. Not always, but it seems the average run of the mill asshole person has no feeling for children not their own.

2006-01-07 12:56:50 AM
Give the kids more credit than that.

The article even said they did it before, and this time no one was hurt either. I think these parents know what their kids can handle.

2006-01-07 12:57:18 AM
well, the mother wasnt the bilogical mother, so no genetic link the poor kids suffer from.just the dad's stupid genes, which i hope they can overcome.

/ no more kids for them!!
// they are too busy anyway
/// go grandma

There is a special, very special, place in the Hell I don't otherwise believe in, reserved for people capable of doing this to small children.

I can't believe that six years in prison is the maximum sentence for the crime. Let's bump that up a few notches, shall we?

/the word "life" keeps running through my mind

2006-01-07 01:03:12 AM
from the article: "Calero is a plumber and De La Vega works in a dental office, police said"

Should read "Calero will be having his plumbing checked hourly by the inmates of the local state pen, while De La Vega will be using what she learned in the dental office on other areas of her fellow female inmates while in prison"

bit long winded, though

/used to live near there, long time ago
//happened to me, too
///older brothers/sisters took care of us wee ones
////legal cause older siblings were over 18 or so
/////parents needed a break from that many kids, anyway

six years seems like a reasonable amount of time for them to spend in prison. Provided that they serve all six years.

There isn't. It would be like a "cure" for being left-handed. Or smart. Or male. Or colourblind. The deep structure of the brain determines who someone *is*, and can't be so easily altered.

We can learn to "pass" for neurotypical, but we can't ever be it.

/autistic

"//happened to me, too

Over 18 is totally different than a 9 year old watching a 5 year old autistic child. I think I was 15 the first time my parents left me on my own recognizance, I don't think that was wrong in the least. That's the age children need to start learning responsibility.

2006-01-07 01:10:19 AM
When I read this on CNN, I believe they said the parents were cosmetic dentists. Doesn't that kind of profession bring in a whole load of money?

I hope the grandmother gets custody of those kids. Why do we allow stupid and irresponsible people to reproduce? It's so sad that those two boys were being raised without love and attention from their parents.

Send them to jail and let them rot for a long long long time....

"I thought they loved [the puppies] more than us," Joshua said to the AP during an interview."

Maybe they left you two at home because your brother's a tard and you're a whiny little biatch.

2006-01-07 01:13:31 AM
Um, this was a few days ago, yes?

I learned about it yesterday while talking with lil' sis, who has two boys. The younger one looks just like the little autistic kid in this story. My nephews are bright, healthy and happy, thanks be to God, and yet lil' sis and bro-in-law wouldn't dream of leaving them alone in the house without adult supervision -- and they're older than the kids in the story. Lil' sis was almost in tears as she told me about this.

Then again, lil' sis and bro-in-law actually wanted kids, and have all these weird ideas about good parenting, adult supervision, and generally taking responsibility for one's children. Asshats who leave their kids alone in the house for days so they can satisfy their own selfish desires should be shot. The only redeeming aspect to this story is that these two shiatheads will now have the opportunity to spend years away from their kids. I'm thinking they'll never, ever again have to worry about finding a sitter. Ooops -- my bad -- they never worried in the first place.

You seem as unfamiliar with child welfare laws as the "parents" were.

Suffra Please don't ever have children, or quit trolling.

2006-01-07 01:23:19 AM
Oh, and Suffra? If 2 adults can't handle the responsability of a 5 year old autistic child, what makes them think their 9 year old, prepubescent son can?

Assholes!
