Wait wait wait. The Chiefs are going to give something up to get Edwards? I'm not a Jets fan, but you gotta think the Jets fans are just crossing their fingers and keeping quiet, saying pleasepleaseplease let this happen.

HA HA it's funny 'cause he's OLD! I get it!

I love the people at Jets games who come wearing zombie masks.

They can't just hire Edwards. They have to interview a minority first and then... oh ... nevermind.

Why? Herm Edwards is a good coach, it's not his fault Chad Pennington has always been a bad NFL QB with the arm strength of a schoolgirl who will get picked off anytime he tries to throw the ball on a tough route.

You could end up with Dennis Erickson, I wouldn't be pleased with this development if i was a Jets fan, but thankfully I'm not.

\wait, why would KC want Edwards?

The reality is that the JETS could have Tuna, Bill Walsh, Bill Belechick and Vinnie Lombardi on the sidelines at the same time and it wouldn't matter. The JETS are a snake-bitten franchise and no amount of coaching changes are going to remedy that.

Ok, I am a huge KC Chiefs fan, probaly because I live in KC, but can someone with knowledge of football coaches explain to me WHY this would be a good move for the Chiefs? I'm dumbfounded right now.. They jets stunk it up the last 2 years.. Was he to blame for any of this? OMG! I'll never see a superbowl for the chiefs in this lifetime!

Yeah- Edwards has been a decent coach for the Jets. He is coming off a rough season where they lost too many key starters.

Not only did they lose Pennington and Fielder in one game, they lost their star center who had never missed a game... and then they lost Curtis Martin and Chrebet as the season went on. This wasn't Edwards fault.

I disagree Pennington has always been a bad QB. He was terrific his first season he took over as the starter... but he never quite got back there. Obviously he's also very injury prone... and with two rotator cuff injuries in a row his future is in doubt.

The Jets will be hard pressed to find a coach of better or comparable quality next season.

Uhh, you don't know anything about football, do you? I guess you aren't that huge of a KC Chiefs fan, eh? First of all, if the Jets "stunk it up the last 2 years," then you must consider making the playoffs, beating the Chargers in the wild card round, and then nearly beating the steelers in the divisional round as stinking it up?

And second of all, Herm Edwards is one of the best coaches in the league.

And third of all, how does it feel to be watching the playoffs, biatches?

As for the snake-bitten comment, the Jets may have had a lot of bad years... but Tuna took them to the AFC championship game and they lost to Denver. Denver was unstoppable that year.

They have been a frequent playoff contender the past decade... and it's more than some teams can boast.

Preacher man Herm has NEVER had his team ready to play in week 1. The team has always had to play itself into game shape through September. It's like they didn't even have a training camp.

The team has gotten run on like they had a bunch of high schoolers on the D-Line instead of FOUR FIRST ROUND DRAFT PICKS.

If Herm is such a great motivator, and gets the best out of his players, why did Santana Moss go from being a piece of crap with alligator arms into the NFC's leading receiver?

The Jets are not the NFL's on-the-job training program for head coaches. Let Herm figure out how to manage a clock and get a team to play hard on someone else's dime.

"why did Santana Moss go from being a piece of crap with alligator arms into the NFC's leading receiver?"

Hopefully the Chiefs send Todd Collins to New York. I can't wait to read a story about him gettin drunk and rowdy at a NY night club, then getting his ass handed to him by some of those big ol NY bouncers.

The playoffs are going to be crazy this year. There are so many good teams. The Colts aren't looking invincible anymore. I like Seattle's chances in the NFC, but they have to worry about the Bears. Carolina and the Giants are possible threats as well even though they have the wild card disadvantage and the Giants defense is decimated.

The AFC is wide open. Of course the Colts are favored, but they have a lot of possible threats to contend with as well. New England is looking scary now. Denver and Pittsburgh are possible contenders as well.

Lebowski78: Moss was always good, Pennington couldn't gt him the damn ball.

I've got every game for the past two years on DVD. If you want, I'll send you twenty examples of him not reaching for a pass over the middle and fifty of him fair-catching a punt that he could have returned for yardage.

Herm is soft on his players.

/And Chad has a rag arm.

Aphostile ,

The colts are still unstoppable. All their starters are available and rested. Its gonna be The colts and Seattle. It is crazy though, considering Seattle is the best team in the NFC, and the Giants should have beat them .... three farking times !! I guarentee Feagles blows it for us in the playoffs. It will happen, one way or another.

I suspect Tampa Bay and the Redskins to get knocked out early, but the Redskins have been playing pretty tough lately so there's no telling for sure with them.

I feel happy that the steelers made the playoffs. I encourage them to win.

On topic. I don't know if this is the right move. Has there been another case where a team traded picks/players for a head coach? And does the head coach count against the cap? (From my understanding they do not).

Go steelers let the bus end his ride on a high note.. do it for the bus!

Tampa Bay will lose to the Redskins, then the Redskins will lose to Seattle. Cincinnati will lose to Pittsburgh. As much as they have improved this year, Pittsburgh is better.

I give you that the Colts are the team to beat in the AFC and are heavily favored. Still, if New England manages to avoid them until the championship game, you never know.

They beat NE in the regular season, but that was before their defense got healthy and they started playing like they have been. I hate the Patriots, but I have to admit they have dark horse potential with the best coach in the league.

2006-01-04 01:49:27 PM
I was under the impression that after the Gruden trade to Tampa the NFL would not allow a coach to be traded for draft picks.

the problem with edwards is that he's too busy to coach the jets and the colts.

\ronnie bennington

AmPm-

Perhaps that is the case- I'm not sure. Edwards is under contract though so the Jets will need to release him in order to facilitate the move to KC. Naturally, they will try to get something for that.

2006-01-04 01:58:44 PM
Edwards just might stay with the Jets. To hear him talk, that's where he wants to be. More money might change his mind and Woody Johnson clearly is less than thrilled with him.

Edwards might be reluctant to leave on such a low note and might want to come back to prove himself. Time will tell.

2006-01-04 02:01:42 PM
I don't know if Edwards falls into this category or not, but what the Chiefs really need is a head coach who has a background in strong defenses.
On that note, I heard a rumor that they could get Bob Stoops from Oklahoma. I hear he wants to get into the NFL and he is a strong defensive coach.

2006-01-04 02:02:22 PM
steelboots:
In fact, you need look no further than the Chiefs to answer your question. The Chiefs gave up a 2nd and 3rd round pick to hire Vermeil, who, even though retired, was technically still obligated to St. Louis.

It's widely known that Herm Edwards is dissatisfied with his compensation. He's one of Carl "Suck It" Peterson's old buds, so of course the Chefs are going after him.

He's a good coach, no question. But if it weren't for his "in" with Peterson, they wouldn't even be talking about him.

Why this guy gets so much love is beyond me. Why the 49ers got rid of a coach who took them to the Super Bowl to get this genius that took Cal to a 6-6 record is beyond me. Why the Chiefs want to give up draft picks again (Vermeil from Rams, even though he retired they ad rights) is beyond me, especially when there are so many canidates out there, including Al Saunders who has made KC the most potent offense in the NFL over the past few years. I would like to see KC get a coach with an extensive defensive background. Gunther needs help.

Personally I like Mooch because he inherited a 9ers team that was cap-stricken and old, got through a couple seasons of cap hell and actually made them contend. That and he just seems likeable. I don't think the problems in Detroit were all his fault. Not that I really care...I'm loving what Nick Saban is doing with my phins so far.

What about Art Shell? He was a good coach with the Raiders, why not give him a shot? And talk about stoking the Raider/Chief rivalry.

2006-01-04 02:16:40 PM
ikenstein-

That's not a bad idea. He certainly deserves a chance.

Chariset-

Were you sleeping through the season after Priest Holmes got injured? Larry Johnson more than picked up the slack. The running game suffered little with Holmes' absence as good as he is. KC just didn't get some key wins when they needed them... like when they lost to the Giants.

2006-01-04 02:18:07 PM
I think Herm is a good coach who just got handed a big bag o crap this season. He has done a good job the past few seasons.

I think the Jets should draft Vince Young of Texas. He is going to be a better NFL QB than Leinart, Leinart had Reggie behind him and is just a pocket QB that can't move. were Young didn't have a super back and can step in the pocket and throw or run for yards. Alot like another Young who wasn't a bad QB in the NFL! mark my words Young will be a great QB in the NFL. although the Jets have a history of passing up on good QB's for subpar ones. Can anyone say Ken O'brien!! they took him instead of some guy named Marino. I can just dream of how many Super bowls we could have won with Marino. Think of the passes to Al Toon from Marino.
