You sure you don't mean Stern?

/yes, I know he's not on XM

2006-01-03 11:49:48 AM
Wait a minute- O&A are doing tissue time now too? Stern was doing that a few months ago on Sirius.

2006-01-03 11:53:12 AM
It's bad enough when I divert my attention to read the song name on the XM screen. I don't need video, too.

Theirs is called Tissue Time with Beth and Allison. It's possible that it's just to fark with howard.

I'd be more excited if they improved signal coverage. I bought a MyFi the other day and I'm not at all happy. No signal at my apt.

2006-01-03 11:56:39 AM
Bullshiatter: No signal at my apt.

Inside your apt? That's probably true. And it would be true regardless of your system, or XM/Sirius. You probably have to get a little repeater. None of those work inside unless maybe you're 3" from the window.

Actually, my Sirius comes in upstairs in the laboratory where I work and NOTHING comes in up here. I was really surprised. It's the S50 unit so I just record shows and use it as an MP3 players when I'm biking or in the gym.

Mine doesn't work in my office or in my house. Well, it didn't until I installed an external antenna. Neither does Sirius. I guess YMMV.

I find it amusing that O&A fans like to call Sterns fans 'juvenile' and the shiate they pull is farking elementary school. I saw one clip of their show called "street fishing" or something where they put stuff on the street and then yell obscenities at anyone that picks it up. I didn't find it funny at all.

The one thing I've noticed is that my Sirius is always using the ground repeaters and not the satellite (it has a little indicator of where the signal is coming from). Perhaps Houston has a good ground system because I haven't found anywhere that this thing doesn't come in. In fact, the little FM broadcaster is so strong that I just use my AM/FM walkman to listen to my sirius while I'm at work and it comes in not only in the lab, but all the way down the hall.

2006-01-03 12:13:22 PM
EatHam - My setup is close enough to run the antenna out onto the balcony... still doesn't work. Using the "antenna aiming" function, I get an occassional (weakest) signal on satellite that comes and goes. There is no terrestrial activity, so no ground repeaters in my area.

I guess I'll hook up the car stuff and hope that the signal improves. My part of the city is growing rapidly, so maybe they'll add a repeater.

It's amazing that we actually need laws to prevent people from being teh stup1d, ain't it?

It'd be nice if my damn car would drive it's damn self to work though. Until then I won't be watching video in the driver's seat.

I kinda wondered how long it would take XM/Sirius to start sending video content. Just a matter of time before you can use it for Fark boobie links...

They did say on their show that they were doing Tissue Time to prove that it didn't work on radio - and it really didn't.

sorry about the threadjack, but has Gmail been down for everyone since morning also? Thanks.

I never turned on my satelite radio boom box beacuse I wanted to use it in my home office which faces North... and I dont have a 200' antenna, mounting hardware, or the need to drill a hole in a perfectly good roof.

2006-01-03 01:58:31 PM
So this will find me a parking spot at Target on the Saturday before Christmas? Hilarious.

/or maybe they have something else in mind?

2006-01-03 01:59:57 PM
Bullshiatter:
Google for 2-0-7-XM --- it's the sequence of buttons on the MyFi, etc that will give you a more detailed antenna aiming screen.

I just switched to XM after two years with Sirius... I think both the programming and reception is better on XM. I can receive reception from the satellites indoors whereas I had trouble with Sirius... I had to keep the antenna by a window and move it every 15 minutes. With XM I just have it aimed INDOORS towards the South. The XM signal is so strong it comes in through the roof. Oh, and O&A party rock.

These companies jsut don't get it.
First the video ipod now this.

If I want to watch tv, i'll watch it on my 50in lcd.

2006-01-03 02:06:02 PM
No. No. No. No. NO!

It's called RADIO people.

Radio is not video. Some things are just meant to be listened to.

Sigh...

2006-01-03 02:06:26 PM
Actually, I like radio a lot better now that Clear Channel has aquired most of the stations. You get a lot more variety than you used to, I think.

I just moved and my new bedroom has 2 windows, one facing east and one facing west. I tried to put my XM antenna in both windows to aim it as closely as I could to south like they tell you to do and got nothing at all. I then set it up against the wall in the center of the room, nowhere near the windows and I get a perfect signal. No idea why.

(my roommate cant get any signal whatsoever from his sirius sportster unless he takes the antenna and puts it in the front yard. I guess thats why they made online)

Yeah, the KKK is full of shiat, therefore, you can't believe that Amnesty Int'l supports human rights. Damn, talk about specious reasoning. Were you homeschooled?

You know damn well what my point is. Concened Women for America consider themselves a feminist organization (interestingly they have more members than NOW but you would never hear the media quote CWA about a women's issue). CORE is a civil rights organization just as much as the NAACP.

I find it amusing that O&A fans like to call Sterns fans 'juvenile'

They do?

All the O&A fans I know readily acknowledge that Stern and O&A do the same crap, they just feel that Stern has gotten stale and O&A do the schtick better.

2006-01-03 02:10:51 PM
I wonder if there's a "shut up the damn kids" station.

/why my friends get video in their backseat
//I've actually heard the words "shut up and watch The f*#king Little Mermaid"

Oh noes! Maybe now all the crazy farkers who get enraged at people on cell phones will have something legitimate to biatch about.

You mean like the seatbelt law? IMHO we dont need that law. If your dumb enough not to wear it and die in an accident, well then you're lucky enough to win a darwin award.

Satellite radio will be dead in a couple years once the country is blanketed by Google Wifi and you can get all the podcasts you want anytime and anywhere. You read it here first!

The last time I listened to Howard Stern (Watched on cable, actually), he had two porn stars on. He was harassing one asking how many times she had been raped... all these details about each and every rape or molestation she'd been through. And he and the other people wouldn't let it go. The girl was about ready to cry the whole time. It wasn't funny. It was just cruel.

2006-01-03 02:17:15 PM
I have both Sirius and XM, XM's signal and overall technology is far superior but I prefer Sirius' programming (Asshat Stern not withstanding), especially the music stations, since the entertainment and news stations are pretty much the same.

I found this website helpful when I set up my XM radio at home.

http://www.xm411.com/phpbb/satpoint.php

Everyone always says point it south, but for me the correct orientations are 202 and 238 degrees magnetic.

2006-01-03 02:23:04 PM
Meh. I'll stick with iPod + transpod + countless free podcasts.

All the cool kids are doin' it.

2006-01-03 02:23:36 PM
I have put the last nail in Sirius Radio's coffin today, by buying 100 shares of their stock. The price, (as predicted) immediatly fell by 3%.

My XM works great in my house.

My wife and I got on the interstate behind this POS 1975 Chrysler Imperial Station Wagon that had four bald tires, a missing bumper, chipped paint, one tail light out, and a 17 inch flat screen tv hanging from the ceiling towards the back seat playing a DVD.

I think the seatbelt law is more for the people that have to clean up the mess that occurs after someone who wasn't wearing one crashes. Plus all the other people that are affected by a crash after someone dies during an accident such as traffic.

Actually Rude T that was one of the first positions taken by the digital elitists as to why satelitte radio would never take off and would, at best, be a short term business. Considering that we still have land telephone lines, free radio and network television, not to mention fax machines and copiers.....

Sirius has Stern and the NFL. 'Nuff said

What am I missing?

2006-01-03 02:33:05 PM
lacydog I agree that the NFL on Sirius is excellent, but why would someone in Cleveland care about the NFL? Love to party in the flats!

/just kidding about the Browns - well kinda

so ahhh... we're paying for radio now?
It's new here in Canada... seems a waste of money to me.
Itunes radio/Shoutcast is free
for the car, well you don't need a subscription for an mp3 deck or better yet one with a line-in for your portable.
Maybe in rural areas where you only get one or two stations and they're both country you might want it, but I don't see a use for it in the big city.

/is it a sign you're getting old when you start questioning the usefulness of the latest gadgets?
//Damn kids, get off my lawn!
