If the lighting in our kitchen was that bad, someone would be installing new fixtures. I couldn't imagine my wife buying one of those because I was too lazy to put in some lighting.

Sven_Burger: A fool and his money....

Hey! I had one of those for years... not only does it grind automatically, but you have a cool targeting light when you are eating in the dark in front of the TV.

/admittedly I didn't buy it... it was a gift

I saw one of these in action years ago. It was in a dimly-lit restaurant, and the waitress used one to put pepper on customers' salads... ensuring that she didn't use too much and that the diner knew when to say "stop."

It's limited in its usefulness, but it does have its uses.

'New and improved Automatic Pepper Mill with Light lets you add the distinctive flavor of fresh-ground peppercorns to grilled meats, salads, egg dishes, pasta, soups and marinades.'

In a dimly lit restaurant, sure...but I can't see why you would ever need it in your home.

2005-12-29 05:57:37 AM
That would be useful for theatre ushers if people wanted pepper on their popcorn...
Otherwise...

Great for those romantic, candle-lit dinners with...oh wait. Yea, for when you are eating in front of the TV in the dark.

You know what would be cool? A pepper mill with a laser sight - for grinding pepper with pin-point accuracy!

Beware of dimly lit restaurants.

The lights in the kitchen were blown out when the line got hacked off by a killer tree limb.

I'd use it.

Pepper is dark, man. DARK. It's hard to see those little guys at the bottom of your giant pot. Salt too - hard to see how much is in there until it's too much.

My solution is to grind the stuff into my hand, then sprinkle it in when there's enough. Works for all herbs and spices, and especially salt-

Oooh. "Grind the stuff into my hand". That's not a pretty image. I'm going to leave it in, though, 'cause I hate you people.

A friend of mine has those. Got a laugh when I first used it. In truth, it could be almost useful; except that it's not too robust, the thing falls apart despite being made out of aluminum, the light bulb flickers as if there's dodgy soldering, etc.

Crappy item.

2005-12-29 06:25:50 AM
Hey!

But you can purchase a second for just: $31.96 !!!

2005-12-29 06:26:52 AM
Surely it needs an 8 megapixel camera (there was NO slug in that salad when I garnished - see!) and an MP3 player, hey maybe even a cell phone?

Haha! I was thinking the same thing.

Also, from the product description: "It does the job with just one hand at the touch of a button no awkward two-handed twisting!

...The perfect gift for the unreasonably lazy cook in your life!

I think my grandmother has one of these.

I was up there for Thanksgiving and was just sitting there eating dinner and started to hear this buzzing noise.

I look up and damn near choke to death when I thought my grandma wipped out vibrater at dinner and then I seen that there was stuff comming out of the bottom of it...

f0513k, what happens if you lose the remote?

I dunno but I remember posting about this item four years ago, then forgetting I wanted one, then seeing one discarded for free but not knowing what it was, now finally remembered upon seeing the ad for it once again.

How do you grind pepper into your hand while using a two handed twisting peppercorn grinder?

I used that line on my wife this Thanksgiving. I asked her what dish to use and she had told me I could do whatever I wanted with the mash potatoes.

For a split second, I think she really thought I was gonna do it. For the life of me, I can't remember where that's from - Eddie Murphy comes to mind, but I don't know. Any help?

That's one manly looking pepper mill if you know what I mean.

mozetti: Redd Foxx Uncensored has the original, and the B-Boys sampled it and really spread it out to a younger generation (I mean, who do you know who listens to comedy albums anymore?!).

Lord, you can buy ANYTHING in this country.

I'm kinda stuck on the image of an inventor sitting alone somewhere glancing back and forth between his pepper mill, his coffee grinder, and his Mag-light. "Hmmmmmmmm...", he says pensively.

Wish I'da thunk it.

f0513k: I forgot about all the useful stuff these guys sell.

The thing I don't get about that item is this, if you're forgetful enough to need it, chances are you're going to forget where you put the remote thingy.
