According to the feds, Ancheta built his botnet by infecting thousands of computers with a variant of the rxbot Trojan horse, which caused the computers to become part of the bot network without the knowledge or consent of their owners.

So he's going to jail. Which is good because he deserves it. But what about Sony? They did the exact same thing when they installed that rootkit on their music CD's and didn't warn their customers. Where's THEIR jail time?

They should punish the guy to the max that the law allows.
But they should also go after the companies that employed his wares.

Zombie master? I thought the proper term was Necromancer.

Man, I wish I had botnet armies. I've just barely managed to teach my hamster to march around with his little helmet.

Notabunny:

I miss my hamster. Humphrey was a damn cool hamster. I picked him, at the pet store, because he only had one eye (I guess it fell out somewhere or he got in a fight) and I figured that no one else would take him, so he'd probably end up dead if I didn't. Humphrey did not seem to enjoy the caged life, however, because he would always chew, chew, chew at the metal bars of his cage at night. I don't know why he didn't like it.. it was a sweet three-story cage and I kept it clean, with all the food he could ever hope to stuff in his cheeks. One day I found him face down in the cedar chips. He jumped from the top floor of the cage, apparently committed suicide. I still feel bad about that. If I had known the little guy was so unhappy I would have got him a female hamster or something.

Unfortunately, I'm anti death penalty.

Doesn't mean I wouldn't enjoy some time alone with this guy and an aluminum baseball bat.

Ancheta... was taken into custody after FBI agents called him into their offices to pick up two computers that had been seized in December 2004.

I guess he wasn't quite the brilliant tactician people seem to credit him with being.

Sony is a large company that pay millions in bribes campaign contributions to many, many Congressmen. That's why they're unlikely to experience any criminal prosecution as a result of their malfeasance.

It's the best damn government money can buy.

This is, as has been pointed out, a good reason why the death penalty may at first seem a good idea, but may not be.

Some people deserve a long, long rest of their life taking meals through a long straw up their nose to think about what they've done.

Texas is going after Sony pretty hard, won't be too surprised if other states go after'em too.

Hear that wooshing sound? That's the cigarette companies breathing a collective sigh of relief.

2005-12-27 03:32:40 AM
Did anyone else read that first like as "Jenna Jameson"?

Okay...just checking.

That is what I was trying to say. I don't believe in the death penalty, but it is not because I do not believe in killing. If I were given a choice between death and spending a life in prison, I know which one I would choose. Some people do not deserve the choice.

Why are people such Farktards? Who sits around their lonely room inventing zombie-nets? Losers.

Should just kill some kittens for a while, like the rest of us, and move on.

Now he's gonna get run over by the choo choo train in prison.

Lock this guy up and throw away the key. Yes, it's imoral to give him a life sentence but "it's for the money" society will save with this asshat out of commission.

No flamewar over whether 28 Days Later is or is not a zombie movie? You can't have a thread on fark with the word "zombie" in the subject without a heated flamewar over whether 28 Days Later is or isn't a zombie movie.

/Or, maybe I'm thinking of AICN.

A life sentence would save society money????...be cheaper to toss him on a deserted island in the middle of no where and leave it at that..
