Iggy wins the "Sinewy Rocker Who Should Have Been Dead Years Ago" award.

Even Keith Richards saw his pic and shuddered..

Jim probably just played louder than the limit to show how punk he still is.

2005-12-15 12:39:47 PM
Must've turned it up to 11.

2005-12-15 12:40:44 PM
If it's too loud, he's too old.

/iggy still rocks.
//just hope he's retired the see-through pants.

2005-12-15 12:40:53 PM
So did Iggy Pop produce the musical event? Because if he didn't, the headline isn't quite factual, and you know how important factual headlines are on Fark.com.

I went to an Iggy show a few months ago and he did the coolest thing I've seen done at a major rock show. He invited the crowd up on stage. The WHOLE crowd, or as many as would fit. He kept biatching out and threatening the security guys until they started letting people pour up on stage. And there's Iggy, playing and singing as a mosh pit forms around him.

Then he got on all fours and barked like a dog.

What a crazy show.

2005-12-15 12:44:21 PM
Was this with the re-assembled Stooges, or is he back playing with his "normal" band now?

2005-12-15 12:44:33 PM
Saw Iggy and the Stooges two years ago in Detriot.
Over 100 decibles indeed and put the Stones to shame.

2005-12-15 12:45:49 PM
while performing at July's Blue Balls Festival...

Appearantly, they made him stop playing just before his big finale.

2005-12-15 12:46:01 PM
poor Iggy.

sold his music to BofA and Carnival Cruise Lines.

2005-12-15 12:46:23 PM
Iggy Pop is proof that heroin doesn't necessarily kill.

2005-12-15 12:47:07 PM
Iggy rules

anyone seen him in "Dead Man"??

2005-12-15 12:47:57 PM
'excessive' and 'blue balls' thats an unusal match in the same sentence.

I heard an Iggy song on a cruise line commercial the other day. What a sell out. Using his music to make money. Bah.

/being sarcastic.

2005-12-15 12:48:36 PM
So no fine was trivially 'given' oh no, they were slapped, slapped I say, with it...

2005-12-15 12:49:16 PM
Man those Swiss officials are no fun, how dare they stop a real wild child like Iggy from having a real cool time like it's some wierd sin. This is just not right - he's no neighbourhood threat. I personally think they're just jealous of his success and his shake appeal, so what if he gets a little loose - it's because he has lust for life and either way any dirt bag who fines Iggy for the raw power of his music should become a passenger on a death trip.

/Seriously you bastards, your pretty face is going to hell.

2005-12-15 12:50:06 PM

Turn it up!!

I knew you were talking about the Bumbershoot...:)

markie_farkie: Iggy wins the "Sinewy Rocker Who Should Have Been Dead Years Ago" award.

You're nuts, pal. Rock star or not, at that age, you have two choices. Fat, wrinkled, and horrible looking, or skinny, sinewy, and tougher than beef jerky. Iggy has always looked awesome and always will until he takes his dirt nap.

2005-12-15 12:51:33 PM
I have a picture of Iggy when he was with the Stooges. He's bent over backwards. It's farking awesome.

And don't badmouth Iggy - he's too hardcore. He'll give you the clap for looking at him wrong.

/has read "please kill me" like 12 times
//anyone who doubts iggy's greatness should read the same book
///no, i'm not gay, but yeah, i'd hit it

Well done Iggy. I expect nothing less.

The man is simply a vessel that contains 100% pure rock and roll.

2005-12-15 12:57:38 PM
Iggy rocks. I always smile at the cruise line commercials, have they actually LISTENED to Lust for Life?

Widespread Panic was so routinely fined for breaking the noise/curfew ordinance at Chastain Park they would just make out a check before the show. They're banned from that venue now.

2005-12-15 12:59:20 PM
I loved it when he showed up as an alien on DS9. They barely had to use any makeup. :)

2005-12-15 12:59:59 PM

Iggy on Letterman circa '92

Dave: So what have you been up to this summer?

Iggy: Oh licking and sucking

2005-12-15 01:04:24 PM
Yeah. I can see this happening. Iggy has never been one to EVER follow the rules. I am a big fan since his Stooges daze and he has never disappointed (seen him about 12 times). Well, there were a few albums (mostly on the Arista label) but in live performance? No one. NO ONE can top him. And from what he stated on NPR's Fresh Air he's retiring soon. Don't miss him (& the Stooges) when he comes to town.

Here's the link to that NPR interview...

Someone actually mentioned widespread panic in an Iggy thread? Ugh, punk is dead.

"We're at the lucky number bar, it stays open til four..."

2005-12-15 01:19:51 PM
Iggy Pop eh, He's cool 'Course you can't put much stock in a man who spends the most part of a conversation talkin' to a bear... talkin'to a goddamn bear.

/Ok, I admit this one is pretty friggin obscure

HOOKS FOR FEET
and william burroughs isn't?

2005-12-15 01:24:25 PM
meh - I have a big scar on my upper arm from where he hit me with a mike stand when I was 17. We both partied the rest of the night with the Stooges, it rocked.

2005-12-15 01:27:49 PM
Good for you, Iggy.

And as for selling "lust for Life" ("Search and Destroy" was used for a Nike ad, IIRC), good for him there, too. Selling his songs about drugs and nastiness as soundtracks for glossy mainstream ads is beautiful irony. Plus, the man needs and deserves a good retirement fund.

2005-12-15 01:28:10 PM
I'm willing to bet that's not his given name.

2005-12-15 01:31:11 PM
Iggy is GOD!

That is all.

2005-12-15 01:31:19 PM
Mmmm $1100 fine? The use of slapped in the aticle is well used here.

2005-12-15 01:32:41 PM
BrotherTheodore

You would be correct. But someone else will beat me to revealing the name to you, because I'm a slow typist.

2005-12-15 01:33:45 PM
I was wrong.

It's James Newell Osterberg.

When I was a kid, I remember a story about Iggy getting arrested for exposing himself onstage, and I thought this might just be more of the same. I don't think his appearance has changed that much over the past 20 years, and I get a huge kick out of the cruise line ad campaign with his heroin addiction song.

I am a big fan since his Stooges daze and he has never disappointed (seen him about 12 times). Well, there were a few albums (mostly on the Arista label)...

I'm a huge fan, and I'll be the first to admit that at least half of what Iggy has committed legally to vinyl is crap. That's part of the charm for me. Ig is so bold that he's not afraid of looking silly (Blah-Blah-Blah), or failing commercially (Zombie Birdhouse). And yet, take the time to sift through either of those albums, and there's absolute gold to be had. ("Cry for Love," "The Villagers," etc.) His lyrics are awesome, and when he remembers what a powerful rocker he is, he can really give it. But I also enjoy the way that, when he fails, he fails so spectacularly and unashamedly. I mean, he covered goddamn "Sea of Love" on one album, crooning and everything. It was horrific. But it was very Iggy. God I love that guy.

2005-12-15 01:55:30 PM
OK, seriously, not one 'blue balls' joke? Oh Farkers, I thought I knew ye....

2005-12-15 01:58:32 PM
Please, 100 vs 102???

At that point is there any difference?

Totally agree. What better is an artist if they don't fail more than once? He has influenced so many and his music has been covered by others too many to mention.

I suggest you listen to that NPR interview. It's one of his best.

I though yours was pretty funny...

yes, i'm an idiot. i stood next to the stage speakers for an entire show. was half deaf for a week. nothing permanent.

but i am amazed at what the human body can endure. simply look at iggy himself. i've witnessed what he does to his body on several occasions.

and i'm glad he's making a buck off his tunes.

I still like a great deal of 'Blah, Blah, Blah'. It's hardly a timeless record, mostly due to Bowie's very sample-heavy production. But I believe that Iggy trusted Bowie's vision. Let's be honest, Iggy owes his career and perhaps his very life to Bowie for resurrecting him with the 'China Girl' cover and getting him back on his feet with the royalties.

Like you said 'Cry For Love' is a rock solid tune with Ex-Sex Pistols Steve Jones on guitar. That Iggy is still around, let alone making music, is a miracle.

Broken highway

Is that real? Good Lord. Is it good?:)

2005-12-15 02:10:08 PM
downtownkid, I submit I referenced them as a rock band fined for being too loud in a a rock band fined for being too loud thread, but hey...

Doesn't the Who still have the Guiness record for loudest concert, circa 1976?

2005-12-15 02:13:35 PM
You know what's cool about Iggy? The fact that he's so famous and has never written a half-decent song. That's cool.

2005-12-15 02:17:49 PM
inkswamp: he fact that he's so famous and has never written a half-decent song. That's cool.

Thank you for your stupidity.

Now STFU and GBTW or we'll feed you dog food.
