(ESPN)   ESPN, in desperate ratings grab, tries to convince us that the Cleveland Browns and Green Bay Packers are still "dangerous". "Dangerous" in this case being a euphemism for "mind-achingly boring"   (sports.espn.go.com) divider line 122

The Packers aren't even a danger for the number 1 pick anymore after that win over Detroit.

Favre is always dangerous.... Reliable, with limited support? No.

2005-12-13 06:28:43 PM
Statistically, the Packers are the best worst team in the NFL. I can see them having some fun playing spoiler for a change.

2005-12-13 08:28:50 PM
dangerous as in, dying of boredom

2005-12-13 08:32:39 PM
How is this ratings grabbing? There's usually always a crap team that punks a good team toward the end of the season.

I have my money (no I don't) on Arizona over Indy.

low_dazzle: go browns in '06!

I hope so, but I'm really starting to believe that Browns' draft picks in the first round are indeed cursed. =(

2005-12-13 08:47:16 PM
submitter should give more respect to michael smith.

and i know this has nothing to do with the topic, but...

Tom Brady is still a better quarterback than Peyton Manning. And please, spare me any references to Carson Palmer...

2005-12-13 08:48:44 PM
I do not know the answer to this so I will ask---how often do these two teams play on ESPN from here on out?

2005-12-13 08:49:23 PM
You better believe the Browns can beat the Steelers and ruin their playoff hopes...as for the Packers, their games against the Bears and Seahawks shouldn't affect the playoffs much.

2005-12-13 08:49:43 PM
low_dazzle,

Very rare for an interior linebacker to go that high in the draft. Probably better off with some help on either line.

If Modell gets into the hall of fame I'm showing up in Canton with a can of gasoline and a zippo.

The Packers are having one of those years. But reguardless of their record they havent really been out of many games this season. And the new guy Samkon Gado or Sam Kong Ado or Oh My Gado whatever, Has been very exciting to watch.

2005-12-13 08:50:22 PM
I think the submitter was in a desperate green light grab.

2005-12-13 08:50:48 PM
They have scored 255 points and allowed the same amount. Crazy they are 3-10.

2005-12-13 08:51:46 PM
Tom Brady is a better quarterback than Peyton Manning how? We must not be talking skill here.

2005-12-13 08:51:55 PM
being a steeler fan, i think the brownies have a chance to beat the steelers in 2 weeks IN cleveland. they always play the steelers tough and they nearly beat them on the ESPN sunday night game a few weeks back.

/suck it drew carey

Yeah, right...Brady better than Peyton? That's a good one. Have you seen what Brady can do with a few injuries? He shows his true colors of not being able to lead a team.

2005-12-13 08:54:22 PM
How is Brady better than Manning, Yeah?

3 Superbowl Rings?

Head-to-head record?

Playoff performance?

Try to argue that none of that stuff matters, please.

2005-12-13 08:54:29 PM
low_dazzle

the browns would be better off with D'Brickshaw Ferguson, and even if they arent better off with him they should take him on principle because of his AWESOME name.

2005-12-13 08:56:00 PM
Yeah, right...Brady better than Peyton? That's a good one. Have you seen what Brady can do with a few injuries?

What...make the playoffs? Win his division? Which one of those are you talking about?

2005-12-13 08:57:36 PM
In most sports threads, I defend my team to death. I am not even going to bother trying. I'm tired of hearing about "moral victories" and all that other loser talk.

I'll say it only because I feel I have to... Go Browns!

/Yes, I am ashamed I just did that.

2005-12-13 08:57:41 PM
Damn you I was going to take a nap after I read this thread now I have to comment.

Brady is the player he is today because of his coach, put Peyton Manning in the same system and I'd be willing to bet people would not only not be comparing Brady to Montana, but they wouldnt even be talking about a second string player.

2005-12-13 08:58:54 PM
The ironic thing is that ESPN's games from here on out aren't that bad. Atlanta v. Chicago this week has definite playoff implications, Denver v. Oakland may not mean much but could be entertaining simply because of the rivalry there, and St. Louis v. Dallas the last week could mean something if the Cowboys are still fighting for a playoff spot.

That Sains v. Jets game a couple weeks back though, wow. I didn't watch a minute of it and I'm still hurting from that one. I know the NFL likes to spread the wealth with these national games (especially for large market teams), but I'd like to meet the guy who thought Saints/Jets in late November was going to be an interesting, meaningful matchup.

2005-12-13 08:59:17 PM
Brady has a great coach, Yeah, so NEVER LOSING A PLAYOFF GAME, and WINNING THREE SUPERBOWLS (and 2 Superbowl MVPs) is completely negated?

Are you retarded?

2005-12-13 09:01:59 PM
Yeah I must be retarded to think Brady isnt a better QB than Manning.

Thanks for clearing that up for me.

2005-12-13 09:02:38 PM
Do you think Brady would be better or worse with the weapons Peyton Manning has?

Brady won two Superbowls with Antwain Smith at running back, I think.

There is no contest between Manning and Brady. Manning is an amazing quarterback. But if you had to win one game with your life on the line, there isn't a coach in the NFL who wouldn't pick Brady.

2005-12-13 09:03:58 PM
Geez that was hard to read. Somebody explain what this sentence means:

This time of year -- with the playoffs around the corner -- those who won't participate, player hate.

Then he uses far more than his share of commas for the rest of the article.

2005-12-13 09:05:17 PM
Do you think Brady would be better or worse with the weapons Peyton Manning has?

I think the real question is, what would Peyton have done by now with a defense that even approaches the Patriots during their Superbowl years? We're going to find out this year it looks like.

2005-12-13 09:05:36 PM
Look I'm not saying that Brady isn't a good QB I think that he was in the right place at the right time. Those coaches that want him in the game with their lives on the line must only need to stay alive by a feild goal.

2005-12-13 09:06:00 PM
Anyone thing Farve is going to call it quits after this season? It'd be a shame to see such a career end like this. He's still a threat in and out of the pocket. It's just GB's offensive line can't hold back shiat. I doubt they'd get any better in a season or two.

2005-12-13 09:07:34 PM
A lot of people share your opinion. I still don't get it. What else does this guy have to prove?

2005-12-13 09:08:01 PM
I really hope to see Farve wearing different colors next year.

2005-12-13 09:09:13 PM
Let him do it with a different team and then if he's still winning Super Bowls and MVPs them yeah he gets the credit.

2005-12-13 09:15:07 PM
Okay everyone, be honest here. If you own a team and have to choose a Quarterback to build around who do you choose, Peyton or Brady? If you say Brady, you are either a liar or you are from Boston and a liar.

2005-12-13 09:18:16 PM
michael smith is a farking tard anyway

2005-12-13 09:18:33 PM
So if Peyton Manning doesn't win the Superbowl this year, he's a complete fraud, right? He finally has the defense, he's clearly the best quarterback, so he HAS to win it this year, right?

2005-12-13 09:20:01 PM
I have a theory about winning in "your year". I think this is Indy's year and if they dont win they will have a hard time getting to the big dance again.

2005-12-13 09:21:02 PM
That wasn't the question.

Is Brady better than Manning if Manning doesn't win this year?

2005-12-13 09:22:17 PM
No

2005-12-13 09:24:02 PM
I guess Joe Montana was just a product of his system as well. I mean, Joe wasn't able to win the big one once he left the 49er system. So I guess Peyton Manning is better then him as well?

2005-12-13 09:24:13 PM
Thanks for proving that you're full of crap.

2005-12-13 09:24:47 PM
I pick Brady and I hate Boston (especially the whining, pathetic martyr support group known as Red Sox Nation). Why? Rings and SB MVPs. Even more than that? Veriable proof that the man is ice cold in pressure situations. Peyton's sure shown that he can kick the Saints' ass, but has he shown that in the playoffs? Not yet. We'll see this year.

2005-12-13 09:25:17 PM
Tom Brady will never be the leader that Peyton Manning is. Tom Brady couldn't even read a defense until recently. Um yeah give me that guy please.

2005-12-13 09:26:57 PM
charlie frye + braylon edwards + kellen winslow jr = 2006 goodness for the Browns!

2005-12-13 09:27:03 PM
As a pats fan, I have no problem saying a lot of Brady's success comes from being in the right place at the right time.

That said, he has a certain presence about him that would make him a winner with almost any team; perhaps not Super Bowl rings and MVP's...but you get my drift.

Also, he does deserve credit since his receivers (outside of maybe Givens and his tight ends) are 5'2 midgets, and most of his interceptions are because Branch and Brown are too damn short to get up to catch anything he overthrows in the slightest.

2005-12-13 09:27:07 PM
robsul

You hate Boston? I hadn't noticed...

2005-12-13 09:27:50 PM

2005-12-13 09:28:39 PM
Tom Brady will never be the leader that Peyton Manning is.

Be honest...you're just trying to troll for an argument, right? You can't be this stupid.
