Doctors said she will give birth to a bouncing baby boy...

Jesus may have been born in March, but this lady is carying the Christmas Child. Also the reason abortion should be legal. If you are meant to live, well, you will do just that.

That landing looked painful. She is very lucky to be alive.

/skydiver, 130 jumps, 1 malfunction (not nearly this bad though)

Incidentally, though, since I have had a malfunction (and walked away from it), I can say from first hand experience that the training for when something goes wrong is very thorough. When something goes wrong, your training kicks in immediately, and you are able to keep things under control and act quickly. She did everything she could, since she was under her reserve, but there wasn't a whole heck of a lot she probably could have done about that spin.

Reserve malfunctions are very rare. The FAA regulates who may pack reserves, and the interval at which they must be repacked (currently 120 days). Reserves must also pass the FAA TSO process. Something like this would basically fall under a very rare "shiat happens" type accident.

Something random I noticed that a non-skydiver likely wouldn't: During the freefall, notice how her instructor was sticking two fingers out in front of her face? He was telling her that her legs were bent too much at the knees, and that she needed to extend them. There are a bunch of gestures like this that instructors give students during freefall; this is probably the most common one.

Good point.

Looks like she hit every branch on the way down.

"Really, the last thing I remember was talking to God," she said. "I said, like I said, 'I'm going home. Just don't make it hurt.'"

And what did God say? Hmmmm? Tell us more.

She didn't know. The doctor told her she was pregnant while tending to her mangled and broken body as sort of a "by the way..." thing.

reminds me of that 'world's craziest videos' segment where this skydiver's main and reserve chutes failed, and he fell straight into a field. He had a camera on his helmet, so you saw the whole thing from his perspective.

he hits and the camera's video goes out for a second, when it comes back, you can see him getting up and jumping up and down screaming, amazed that he wasn't hurt at all, except for some bruises.

weirdest thing i've ever seen.

she landed on her FACE.

she thinks that since she and her baby lived that GOD has something special in store for her.

she can't wait to complete here recovery so that she can jump AGAIN.

she is a DARWIN AWARD waiting to happen.

Jeeez, those pro-choice people will stop at nothing to allow a woman's right to choose....

So did the surgery improve her face? Yikes, but congrat's on living through the experience.

2005-12-13 01:37:58 PM
I've seen a video one one of those malfunction parachute landings. The guy had a camera mounted on his helmet and you could hear him saying "oh shiat, oh shiat.... " the whole way down. When hits, he gets up and starts screaming "I mother farking lived!" etc, dancing up and down. He said he relaxed at the last minute and that's why he survived. He said if he tensed up, he would have died. The mud field probably also helped. That's what this other guy that had a failed parachute said, he relaxed before hitting the ground.

2005-12-13 01:38:35 PM
SPARKYJONES23, I'd heard from another story online that she didn't know at the time that she was pregnant.

The kind that doesn't know she's expecting.

That's crazy.

Skydiving is awesome, by the way.

She should be locked up for endangering her baby like that!!

Hell MJ catches flack for hanging a kid out a hotel room window and catches flack.

Scott Peterson gets extra time for killing a fetus.

This chick gets on the news.

WOO HA!!

SpongeJamie

Yeah, well, that'll happen when you get 15 plates put in your face.

*shudder*

She looked good in the pre-jump video.

2005-12-13 01:40:01 PM

Richardson said she doesn't remember hitting the ground.

I guarantee I wouldn't remember it! Saw this on CBS at 4:00 this morning, the video is hard to watch. She knows she's gone. But it was funny how she didn't know she was 2 weeks pregnant until the accident.

2005-12-13 01:40:26 PM
I envision a slew of new "I'd hit it" images...

"I'd hit it like a parking lot...."

2005-12-13 01:40:41 PM
I was going to call her a dumbass for skydiving pregnant... then I RTFA...
She must have some higher purpose in life.

2005-12-13 01:40:51 PM
Yea, I was going to make some snarky comment about a pregnant women dumb enough to sky dive, but then I RTFA.

So instead I'll add this snarky comment: for those of you who watched the video, did anybody notice that the WalMart girl in the ad at the bottom looks an awful lot like the the sky driver? Weird.

And if you think it was scary being her ... imagine how her instructor felt. Damn! That would be tough to watch!

I'd hit it with a 50 mph impact.

Apparently, as she's pregnant, the old chute works just fine...

2005-12-13 01:41:52 PM
HELLO RETARDS SHE DIDNT KNOW SHE WAS PREGNANT, READ THE ARTICLE NEXT TIME, GEEZUSFOCK

2005-12-13 01:41:58 PM
How the hell do you survive something like that?

2005-12-13 01:42:24 PM
She hit it.

2005-12-13 01:42:45 PM
I'd hit it bigjnsa, it's probably just the thing she needs right now. I'll take one for the team to cheer her up. That and I have no real standards.
