you guys gotta cut out this "trifecta" bullshiat. it is utterly and completely retarded.

/a big "fcuk you" to morans who believe in this shiat

Overreacting idiots trifecta in play.

Darrell who? Meh. Don't care. Metal always sucked. My image of metal will always be Beavis and Butthead. Da da da! Da da da! Da da daaaaaaaaaaa! PS. I grew up listening to Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, ACDC and Black Sabbath until I realized it all sounds the same. Then the cross dressing glam bands came along and buried it completely.

In all the years of coming to Fark I've NEVER felt the need to post in the comments section UNTIL today.

It never ceases to amaze as to how many pure assholes post here. Let's review shall we......

autopsybeverage
"Let's see, on Dec. 8th, 2004, I was pulling a loaded 9mm from under my jacket, when a gunshot rang through the venue and I realized that asshat got him first."

MY biggest regret was not being there just so I could have taken YOU out!

gweilo8888
"Where does one go to share "who the hell cares" stories...?"
Best spot I could think of would standing over YOUR grave. Yea, that seems like the BEST place.

Billy the Kidd
"Who cares he was a dirty pot smoking piece of garbage"
And your great accomplishments in life have been.......?
Trust me, I won't hold my breath waiting for a reply.

Svperstar
"Well I certainly wasn't living in a trailer like the Pantera fans"
Now THIS is the "funniest" comment yet....Hey "svperstar" as a Pantera fan I OWN, read it again, OWN a 4200 sq ft home in Greenwich Connecticut complete with a pond, 4 car garage, horse trail and an additional 4 acres just to play with. (All this just from being a "dirty pot-smoking piece of garbage") Just what exactly to YOU have? Nice generalization ASSHOLE.

Billy the Kidd (AGAIN, more words of wisdom)
"Maybe if the guy mattered or wasnt a dirty pothead musician whom contributed nothing really despite his position as a star had something to do with the flaming."

Hey smartass, you should really KNOW something about someone OTHER than your false assumptions. This much I can guarantee you, he'll be remembered long after YOU are gone. Come to think of it, no on e is going to remember you as having done ANYTHING significant. How ya feel now????

woodpecker from mars put it PERFECTLY:
"This "flamewar" has more to do with people on Fark striving to be the most belligerent, obnoxious, offensive people they can be, and to do it first and better than any other farker. If this includes pissing on things other people like, the more they get off on it. Talk about people who contribute nothing. Fark is full of them."

Some of you swear you're the wittiest things on the planet with your stupid photoshopping, the inane "who cares" comments, the cutsie little internet language with all the STUPID \\\\ insert silly comment here, etc, etc, etc,.

You see, those of us who do actually have a life don't spend our time posting on internet message boards. Then again, considering most of you are nothing but a bunch of losers, it's no suprise.

FIrst AND last post EVER.

I get so pissed off when people say "it all sounds the same" every type of music sounds the same. There is a reason why we have categories of music, we group them based on how they sound. Also i've noticed that when somebody says it all "sounds the same" the exceptions are only the types of music that individual likes. I bet you listen to coldplay.

Implicit Frustration: Yeah... several of the people saying "Hey, just because you don't like it doesn't mean you have the right to trash the people that do" are the same ones that go into any rap thread and sh*t talk not only the entire genre, but call into question the worth of the people that listen to it. Hopefully something like this can make some of you appreciate that one's taste in music is not necessarily indicative of his or her character.

Absolutely correct. That's what I pointed out, before my post...mysteriously...disappeared.

At work, then I had to go do story on a Pantera tribute band down in the middle of the state. I did get to hear some good rock music.

I remember sitting at home with my Dad, and we overheard it on the radio; I spent about 10 minutes explaining who Dimebag was and what impact his death would have. I also remember listening to Howie Carr blast Dimebag on his talk show.

I also remember my Dad dying 3 days later.

December is a bad month.

/RIP Dimebag et al

I hope the scumbag that shot him is still dead.

2005-12-08 01:23:25 PM
ilovetacos: You better hope i never find out who you are, if you like chewing solid food. I can actually say i knew Dime, he was the single nicest person i have ever met in my life. We would go out drinking with 20 people and Dime would say everybody's drinks are on me... all night long. John Lennon was a stupid hippie that made the stupid hippie musician mistake of mixing politics and music.
/took the day off work to get drunk for you Dime
//kicking back black tooth grins
///burn it up

Preach on my brotha, preach on.

/wish i was off today and listenin to pantera...
//i'd pick Darrel over that pathetic loser John anyday.

2005-12-08 01:25:07 PM
I heard it on the news and stayed up all night reading forum threads for more info. I couldn't believe it. I took the next day off from work. I felt like I did in highschool the day Kurt Cobain died.

2005-12-08 01:31:28 PM
I was fortunate enough to have met him in Barcelona. I got to watch him play several times, and will never forget him. One of my most treasured things is a pic of me and Dime. What a horrible day that was. Dime was a sweet dude and one fantastic thrasher. There will never be another one like him. It's still hard to listen to Pantera for me...I hope one day, it will be easier to listen to their music which I love so much.

RIP Dime

I work as dispatcher for a neighboring fire department and remember hearing the call go out for a shooting. And then they kept requesting more and more medics and equipment, we knew that something big and tragic had happened.
It was in the paper today that Officer nubianmeyer took today off because he didn't think that his head would be in it today. He saved a lot of lives that night because, as tragic as it was it could have been worse.

2005-12-08 01:51:21 PM
I'm 40.

Back in the glam days, my buds and I would go see Pantera every time they were in our area (East TX, SW Ark., N LA.)

We had amazing times partying with those guys on about 40 or 50 occaisions, and our band even cut a demo in their Pantego studio under the production of Darrell and Vinnie's father, "The Eld'n."

I have far too many stories to post here, and I cannot say anything more about this than what has already been said in the past year.

My stomach is in knots and I want to cry.

2005-12-08 01:59:02 PM
I remember when I went to Ozzfest, i think it was 1999, and one of the band members of Pantera is all drunk and says "I farking love Slayer"

And the love of Slayer continued in other comments throughout their set.

Why do people feel the need to be total dolts? If you don't care about Dime, don't come in here. You know it's going to irritate his real fans, but are you expecting some sort of reaction other than:

a. flaming, or
b. nothing?

No one is going to fly to your house so you can be disrepectful in person.

Can't really say I'm surprised to see those kind of posts though.

Anywho, Dime was my hero. I study his playing like an apprentice. I was in school when I found out, but I was probably at home parked in front of my computer playing along to "Domination".

The year flew by. Too bad he wasn't here to enjoy it. R.I.P. man.

2005-12-08 02:01:45 PM

I was at work listening to the Cowboys from Hell CD (I worked as a Support Technician [people would bring in servers that needed to be configured, blah blah blah]). My boss asked if that was Pantera I was listening to, and I said yes. He then said, "dude, you should probably check the news." I read CNN and Fark of course, in utter disbelief. I just kinda zoned out for the rest of the day.

I miss you Dime, you will always be one of my greatest guitar heros.

RIP.

DRFS Rich,

Great point you made, BUT a real Black Tooth Grin is made with Crown Royal (not Jack Daniels). Dime invented it, and it has Crown Royal in it.

/and smile it's black tooth grin!
//if anyone doesnt know what black tooth grin refers, it's lyrics from a Megadeth song.
///rent VULGAR VIDEO if you have never seen it!

I'll never forget the Old days in Shreveport, La @ "Circle in the Square" drinking w/the band before thay made it big.

Rest in Peace Friend.

Drivin' in my car when the radio DJ announced it. Having never heard of him before, I announced, "huh." I then checked out some Pantera, but it wasn't really my thing.

2005-12-08 02:26:25 PM
Is it just me...or did someone fark up by greenlighting the headline with the wrong year in it...

I was praying for Omarion.

Undiluted

That's cool. At least you weren't a total dick about not liking them. I wish this post was full of more people like you. There'd be no problems.

R.I.P.

All day, listening to nothing but Pantera. Anyone else doin' the same?

2005-12-08 02:58:54 PM
I was pretty busy that day not giving a shiat.

2005-12-08 02:59:10 PM
I was listeing to the Beatles actually when I recieve a call from my buddy telling me the bad news. I'm glad I got to see him (Damageplan) before he died in Hollywood. Dime and Zakk Wylde had a solo off. It was farking magnificent.

Best of wishes Vinnie.

I'm doing the same. I got on 101 Proof Live right now, next is Cowboys from Hell :).

2005-12-08 03:26:26 PM
I had never heard of Dimebag or Pantera, but I was just surfing Fark & read the thread out of general curiosity... until way down the page I suddenly saw someone name the others who died that night... including Jeff "Mayhem" Thompson. I knew him from Scarborough Faire, he was a great guy. RIP Mayhem... :~(

For those who also remember Dimebag wasn't the only victim:

Maybe you need a much higher mental capacity than you currently have to understand why some people got upset over his death, and why some people consider it obnoxious and rude to come into a thread about a subject you don't give a fark about just to tell people how great you are for not giving a fark about it.

Pretty much makes you a dick.

wow. the first time I have ever wanted to say pwnt.
amazing, woodpecker from mars. impressive.

StarSys: PS. I grew up listening to Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, ACDC and Black Sabbath until I realized it all sounds the same.

If you think Priest, Sabbath and Maiden "all sound the same" then you've just proven yourself to be a clueless moron, and need to just shut up before you embarass yourself futher by saying something else completely uninformed and stupid.

Oops... too late...
Then the cross dressing glam bands came along and buried it completely.

That shiat isn't metal, no matter what MTV tries to tell you. Perhaps before you spout off about something you obviously have no clue about, you should try listening to some actual metal first.

I have a huge mix of Pantera I'm shuffling on my computer here at work. Right now it is on:

I can't hide
to erase
what I've done
last year
the year before
can't hide from myself
and I won't try
and it makes me strong

rocwilli

I wasn't singling you out or anything, but thanks for acknowledging that I said anything at all. You seem like a decent person and I can understand where you're coming from to a certain degree. A lot of people try to emulate the lifestyles that are portrayed by all sorts of entertainers and it's almost always stupid, and especially grating when you know it's not natural to them. I don't think a performer should be held accountable for the ignorant behavior his/her fans participate in due to a misguided sense of admiration.

2005-12-08 04:46:43 PM
Hell yea guys, I'm on "Rise" right now, and I have 5 more hours of Pantera to go through.

And, I agree with rocwilli, Lamb of God is the next Pantera, let's just hope they don't end the same way.

2005-12-08 05:08:32 PM
I was on FARK. It hit me on a larger level than Lennons death. I was only 9 when Lennon died & though I was playing Beatles songs on my guitar at 9, I played a lot more Pantera thru my 20's. CFH was somehow completely different from most of the metal I was playing at the time. More of a groove to it I guess. Pantera was one of the few bands that got progressively heavier w/ time too. I was pretty pumped that Dime & Vinny kept things rolling w/ Damage Plan. Dime was a major influence on modern metal. RIP, bro.

2005-12-08 05:20:07 PM

I never got a chance to see ya, Dime. I'll have to settle for seeing your grave one day.

I knew there was a reason I respected the hell out of you. That statement pretty much codifies it. I may not always agree with you, but you've got my respect.

i was in china. I'm glad got to see him play once with pantera at ozzfest... they were awesome.

I met Dime once. He took pics with us (which, sadly, didn't come out) and shared his Coors with everybody,....the coolest guy ever,....we love ya Dime,...

2005-12-08 06:25:32 PM
I was online, when a friend of mine told me over MSN. I watched CNN all night and got drunk on bad vodka.

Ever since I was in junior high school, Pantera was one of my favorite bands. It was a wonderful independent discovery in what pretty much amounts to a Pop Music Sensory Deprivation tank around here. I still love Pantera, I remember watching the videos with my friends and being totally enthralled by the wastoid antics. Now, we've all grown up a bit, its not a life we want to emulate anymore but its still great that someone could do it when we all had to get along with the mundanities of it all. We still want the bands, we still play the music, some of us have actually gone into the business...part of that was Dimebag, part of that was John Lennon. One of the things I've always noticed is that there are two kinds of people - music fans and people who listen to music. The latter merely soundtrack their lives, remembering nostalgically hit songs and singles, putting markers into their lives. For a music fan, Music isn't an accompaniment to life...it is its own event. It was important enough to fight over, skip school, break the law, go impossible distances, and burn bridges just to hear and to be experienced for its own sake.

Pantera at the Stampede Corral will always be my favorite concert. I can still feel the heat, I can hear the clarity of that Washburn guitar - the incredible skill and fidelity of that guy.

Seeya in Hell, Dimebag. It'll be fun.

2005-12-08 06:43:06 PM
Can't say anything that I or someone hasn't said before. It still hurts, I still miss him, wish it never happened.

I went to a Damageplan show 2 weeks before that fateful day, and after the show I asked my friend if we should stick around and hang out, but we totally pussed out and convinced ourselves we'd catch up with them next time they came around for tour. Still kicking my ass over that one.

/Currently working on my Dimebag tribute backpiece tattoo.
//Dimebag forever.

2005-12-08 07:23:09 PM
My then roommate at the time and I went to go see Marilyn Manson perform at the Nokia Live theater in Grand Prairie (Dallas area) for you non-TX residents. We left the venue and went to eat. On the way home, I heard the news on KDGE that Dimebag was shot. I called him up, since he went to another restaurant and he accused me of lieing and being a dumb shi-ite. He got home and later apologized.

Ironic, though; Manson performing in front of his home crowd in TX, while Dimebag performing in Manson's home state.

Maybe that's just me.

I can't quite remember what I was doing, or how I heard about him getting shot. I was pretty bummed out about it though, it just seemed (as it always does in these cases) a completely pointless death.

Fortunately I'd gotten to see him 4x or so live. I will say this much: The band themselves did some cheesy-lame stuff (like thier affinity for Nugent and Kiss), started out as a really awful glam-band thing... but when they were at thier peak, there was noone better in thier genre.

Some of what they did was way WAY ahead of the curve, even compared to current kings of the genre. Don't believe me? Dust off TGST, and listen to the title track or 13 Steps.... or even better, dust off FBD and listen to the whole thing.

The fact that they called it quits / self destructed before the typical downward spiral is icing on the cake IMO. They deserve thier place as a pinnacle metal band of the past 20 years.

I was out in Philadelphia working a disaster recovery test for work when I found out... Every time a server was rebooting or I was waiting for something else to finish, I was all over the web trying to find out everything I could about what happened.

Truly a sad day in music. R.I.P. Dime.

2005-12-08 09:40:19 PM
I was stuck in a Korean airport because I missed my flight, listening to Alice in Chains CD's there because I forgot to bring Pantera, the band I had become newly obsessed with before I left to go there. I come back home to my Pantera music on the 9th, bam, I find out my hero's dead.

2005-12-08 11:13:12 PM
I was sitting at my grandmothers' house and happened to be playing my guitar when i heard the news that dime was no longer with us...it's so tragic to see one with so much talent and spirit go out like that.

R.I.P. Dime, you are gone but you will never be forgotten.

2005-12-08 11:31:46 PM
Read about it on Fark. (was just a lurker at the time)

Dimebag made artificial harmonics totally cool (cowboys from hell).

I saw it on rx7club.com. Someone posted "They're shooting Pantera on stage!". Ran out to the car, turned on the radio, listened and got confirmation (they were almost crying on-air). Went back in, biatched out some dumbass who thought it was funny...

But re: artifical harmonics. Ever hear Cliff Burton play?

/where were you on Sept. 26th, 1986?
