Coon said she has learned from this that parenting and good intentions don't always guarantee kids will keep from running afoul.

O RLY?

2005-12-04 07:33:39 PM
"We've searched so many times to find out what went wrong, Coon said. We used to think it was just bad parenting that caused kids to act out, but it's not necessarily that. Why would he go outside the bounds? We couldn't figure it out."

There's just no way _she_ could be a bad parent, so that can't be it.

Of course, it could just be that kids are inherently evil crotch-spawn that need beaten into submission early in life.

MTV? Didn't they used to play music videos about 20 years ago?

2005-12-04 07:35:17 PM
I think kids watch TV and movies and play video games and they can't separate between reality.

I was about to call foul if Video Games weren't blamed.
Who does this upstart "MTV" think he is?
Video games retain their rightful place as a corruptor of youth. That and Socrates.

2005-12-04 07:35:35 PM
Ah man.. That triggers one of our favorite family stories.

I'm the 8th of 9 children... One of our Uncles was visiting us when we were very young, and he drove a '76 VW Beatle. My brother & I got a kick out of the 'ssswweishhhh" sound that we got by sticking a twig into the tire stem.

Four tires later, we were in deep shiat.

Joe_Merchant: MTV? Didn't they used to play music videos about 20 years ago?

no, that's a myth, MTV never showed videos, only crappy reality shows and stupid award shows.

It's true you know, I built a Trojan Horse and ransacked Hackensack, New Jersey after reading the The Iliad.

After watching the blacksploitation movie GI Bro I put together a ragtag bunch of misfits and we assaulted a train full of stolen Nazi gold.

After a late night of Pac Man, me and my friends got hopped up on Marshmellows, dressed up in blue sheets and wandered around the local shopping mall chanting "Eat me!"

Hah, that reminds me after that time we saw our local production of 'The King And I'. It was hiarious, my friend Dave, that prankster, brought western culture and ideas to a small kingdom deep in the Orient.

I don't understand it, Wasilla resident Capi Coon said in a
phone interview Friday afternoon. I think kids watch TV and
movies and play video games and they can't separate between
reality."

I just finished watching ghostbusters for the 200th time and
decided it was high time I got into my stay puft marshmallow
man suit and go stomping through Manhattan.

Ayuh. "Grand Sabotage Schoolbus: Mat-Su Valley". Hottest video game of the season. Who hasn't heard of it yet?

How much do you want to bet Mother of the Year here allows her kid to have a TV and Xbox in his room?

I played evil pranks in high school because I was going to watch MTV ten years later.

Frank: There is only one way we are going to be able to take out this school bus fleet, we have to take out those shield emitters!
Jimmy: I'm hit! I'm hit! I'm going in! AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
/Bicycle crashes into shield emitter and explodes
*BOOOOOOOOM!!!*
Frank: The shields are DOWN! GO FOR THE TIRES! GO FOR THE TIRES!
Eric: Frank! There a little yellow bus on your tail!
*Tardy bell rings*
Todd: Oh my GOD! That school's operational!
Andy: ITS A TRAP!

the only thing they did wrong was get caught. back in my day that would be concidered good fun and we where compitent enought not to get caught

I don't know exactly why, but DAMN that's funny.

2005-12-04 09:59:44 PM
Yeah, when I was a kid, we had healthy role models, like these:

And

Y'know, the only reason we didn't attempt jumping our bikes thru flaming hoops is because we were MORE afraid of my Dad than we were of death.

Where DID I leave my eyepatch?

2005-12-04 10:00:18 PM
It's parents and kids like this that give me a bad reputation. Video games do not cause retardation, unless you are beat on the head with a PS2 when you are born.

2005-12-04 10:00:18 PM
Capi Coon?

2005-12-04 10:01:34 PM
MTV? How about considering the fact that your son is just a jerk? Jerks have mothers too ya know. So let's just blame mothers!

2005-12-04 10:01:52 PM
I don't see that they were influenced at all. Inspired, sure. But she's trying to say her kid never would have pulled a prank, without MTV? Pfft.

They could have just as easily heard about it from their cousin Billy, who heard some-one going to their friends school pulled off this great prank... who wouldn't want to try and duplicate it?

So, no-one to blame but dumbass kids pulling a prank. Nothing new, except that they had the guts to do something of this scope.

Oh yeah, gotta blame some-one. OK, Mom's fault for not teaching her kid to be a good little sheeple and never step off the straight and narrow.

2005-12-04 10:02:26 PM
MTV? We all know it's George Bush to blame.

2005-12-04 10:02:58 PM
I've seen that show they mention in the article and it really could make teens think that all pranks are harmless

My roommate watches MTV and then leaves it on when he leaves

2005-12-04 10:06:42 PM
Just 10 seconds of viewing shows like "Sweet 16" makes me afraid. Very afraid.

I think I know why they can still call it MTV even though they continue to play the shiatty 'reality shows.'
They have popular music PLAYING IN THE BACKGROUND! Brilliant!

/sarcasm

2005-12-04 10:08:39 PM
I say throw all the teens involved into prison for vandalism for a couple of years.

2005-12-04 10:08:52 PM
"There is no blame, she said. He just sees things differently and thought it would be a good little prank.

Some locals would beg to differ. "not only did they pull valve stems on 47 of the buses, they also unplugged heaters for over 110 buses, leaving them unable to start. they estimate over $10,000 for repair work, the bus company lost over $40,000 for the day when the buses couldn't move..."

In a side note, Burchell is where the Bad Kids are sent when they're kicked out of the public schools.

Wasilla used to be a nice little town, but as can be seen from the Police Reports on the above linked site, is getting pretty bad. In fact, the story about the theft of the Walrus Penis Bone made it to the front page of Fark awhile back, and one of my favorites is the story of the barefoot woman attacking the bus driver and some students.

I'm glad I moved further into the Bush before "Anchorage Jr." got so bad.

2005-12-04 10:09:11 PM
We used to think it was just bad parenting that caused kids to act out, but it's not necessarily that.

Stupid biatch, you believed that until your son "acted out". You used to pass judgement on every one else in your shiathole town, now the crows are coming in to roost and you can't handle it. Do us all a favor and STFU, no one cares about you or your juvenile delinquint, wrong-side-of-the-tracks, acting-out, hangs-with-the-wrong-gang, no-future, G.E.D-here-I-come-(if-I'm-lucky), criminal-minded son.

2005-12-04 10:10:18 PM
Blame the damn republicans. If that mother would have had an abortion, there would be no son to do the vandalism.

/I support free-abortions
//only because i don't like poor people

"Well, Mr. Simpson, some people are, well, just jerks."

2005-12-04 10:14:46 PM
To paraphrase Jon Stewart: Everyone knows that before MTV, no teenage boy had ever done anything stupid.

2005-12-04 10:15:39 PM
fyi to parents: ALL of your children will do stupid shiat. you just might not find out about it.

2005-12-04 10:17:24 PM
When I was in high school I never watched MTV, and I still did stupid shiat. I guess my generation was more creative then this generation.

2005-12-04 10:18:37 PM
You know what if you were more of a parent then you wouldnt have to worry about this, if you would tell your kid why things like that are wrong from a young age then maybe when the kid is older you wont have to worry about shiat like this

2005-12-04 10:19:24 PM
So, who do you blame for the stupid 'wait for it' cliche crap?

2005-12-04 10:20:05 PM
I'm telling all of ya'll its sabotage!

2005-12-04 10:23:47 PM
We are still trying to figure out why David joined in on this, she said. We have four other kids who are leaders in every way. Why would David do something like this? We don't understand it.

I don't get it either. I mean you did everything to set up a instil a moral life in this young man.

But on an entirely different note: an overbearing mother, four smarmy goody-two-shoes older brothers, and a bored teenager wanting to create his own snow-day walk into a bar ...

2005-12-04 10:23:55 PM
Teenagers have done stupid, irresponsible things since the dawn of time.

We haven't had television or videgames quite that long. :P

Back in the day, parents blamed cave paintings.

2005-12-04 10:27:29 PM
They thought it was innocent that way. They didn't think about all the kids and parents that were inconvenienced, or the bus drivers.

Well, yea the kid didn't break anything but unplugging the heater does actually damage the bus.

What happened to the good pranks you hear about at schools?

20 streakers at graduation one year.

Herd of pissed off goats released in the school another.

Has anyone put out a Firefox extension that will let you ignore users without having Totalfark? Adblock has been great for removing the stupid owl pictures, but some people insist on parroting the phrase below the pictures.
