Hey! It's all ball bearings nowadays. Now you prepare that Fetzer valve with some 3-in-1 oil and some gauze pads. And I'm gonna need 'bout ten quarts of anti-freeze, preferably Prestone. No, no make that Quaker State.

You seem to pick and choose your facts dc-kid:
Monitors found cases of "abusive treatment" -- either physical or verbal -- in more than a quarter of its South Asian factories, and between 25 percent and 50 percent of the contract factories in the region restrict access to toilets and drinking water during the work day.

I'd call those sweat-shops conditions.

....bbbbuuut Gulfstream has a gear blowing device!!!

Methinks he may have tried that. Maybe a wheel bearing came off the hub and the wheel got twisted and wedged? Something similar to the flight in LA last month.

yeah, I was just trying to fool with tinyarena.

Image transmitted from inside the plane. Still no word on the cause of the mechanical failure.

2005-11-21 02:34:31 PM
MSNBC says it may be another 2 to 3 hours before they attempt the landing. Gotta burn off all that fuel.

So this and the Jet Blue incident, what say that the FAA creates a special division looking at all commercial and private jet aircrafts landing gears.

Hell any and all retractable landing gear aircraft.

And your assuming that those managers enforcing those conditions were all big fat lazy Americans.

It's probably punishment for the horrible uniforms they made for Florida, Miami, VaTech, and Oregon. There's probably enough bad karma from the years of Oregon uniforms alone.

I thought a Nike was a rocket, not a plane...

2005-11-21 02:37:45 PM
Wow, nike shares are dropping, even though from what one guy says, this is a problem, but it is highly unlikely that anyone will get hurt.

Not enough bad karma to keep us from beating the ever loving shiat out of Oregon State on Saturday.

yes, I know about check valves.

I also know that stuff likes to not work

2005-11-21 02:41:38 PM
All these people onboard this plane ever did was try to bring you a quality pair of shoes for a reasonable price, while employing a large workforce with a fair wage and opportunity for advancement. You should be ashamed of yourself for all these ill thoughts you have for these poor helpless passengers.

/Just kidding

2005-11-21 02:41:42 PM
j z Anyone want to bet that half of the farktards ripping on Nike for using child labor own at least one pair of the shoes.
Or any sports shoes, they are all made by the same asian subcontractors, except for one company whose name escapes me right now.
While conditions there might not be up to western standards for health, safety and breaks, they are still better than for many people who work in local industries, and better than they used to be.

2005-11-21 02:42:30 PM
I've only had a few problems with check valves in my 8 years working on aircraft. There are enough of them probably a half dozen in the gear that would prevent a total loss of fluid.

Ours is a fascinating culture. A middle-aged woman who spends the afternoon with her pre-teen children, just returned from school, watching a gory "Faces of Death" style video would be considered mentally unsound.

That same woman spending the afternoon with her children watching Fox News coverage of an imminent plane crash--where real people might die on live TV--is perfectly acceptable.

What's the difference? I really don't know. Just . . . fascinating.

Where did I assume that? You're flailing dc-kid. Nike has the economic power to stop this by not doing business with any oversea factory that does not meet a level of compliance to basic worker rights. They could easily establish new relationships with factories that would meet these levels. But like most of us they want the steak and don't care about how it's butchered.

But enough of this, arguing over the internet is futile. There's a plane to watch land.

The fact that people DO die in the "Faces of Death" vid, whereas they MIGHT die here. Thus, she can claim that she is "watching because I hope they survive." When you watch FOD, you are just watching to see people die.

Mr. Knight, when you hire Malaysian children for #3 per week to fly your planes, this is what happens.

No shat. Teen girls are raped half as often at Nike plants than they are at other plants. But you wouldn't know that with the disrespect shown here.

I'm pretty sure if I were on the plane, I'd be drinking heavily. Its always the drunk people in these accidents that survive.

2005-11-21 02:55:39 PM
Per MSNBC TV

They have just said that they were just able to get the gear down and in place. The plane will be landing within the next 10-15 min.

2005-11-21 02:55:45 PM
So this is like the equivalent of a medium sized car accident...but the only difference is we get to watch it unfold...

Oh wait...I mean 'Scary - I hope everyone is ok!'

FOCUS, PEOPLE, FOCUS!!!

We've got a crisis on our hands here and we're diluting the situation with talk about some corporate jet with landing gear problems! This series of events obviously calls for a flamewar regarding overseas manufacturing! Get with the program!

Looks like I picked a bad week to quit sniffing glue...
