How farking stupid do your handlers have to be to not know these shows aren't real news shows?

/didn't rtfa

Maybe someone will finally get the message that TDS and TCR *aren't* real news shows, and stop treating them as such.

I love both of them, but stop getting mad, when you should know by now they're not serious about anything!

ffs, Colbert channeled Stewart's spirit on one of the latest episodes (was that last night's? I may have been drunk)

2005-11-10 11:29:07 AM
That headline is stupid and misleading, the guy knew damn well what he was getting himself into.

2005-11-10 11:29:24 AM
Frank was less enthusiastic about his interview. ''I really regretted the waste of my time, but even more the waste of TV space," he said. ''Getting younger people to watch who are interested in the issues is important. What a waste to make them think it's all Silly Putty."

Lighten up, Francis!

For some reason the Barney Frank interview didn't seem that funny to me. It seemed like there was a lot more they could have done but didn't. It did think it was Faaaabulous to hear a US Senator say something about "his boyfriend". I did a Z-snap in my living room and said "You GO Gurl!".

/my main primary cat now thinks I'm insane.

OH NOES!! THE FAKE NEWS MADE FUN OF ME!

I wonder when a majority of Farkers will come to the same conclusion...

2005-11-10 11:45:01 AM
For the first half, they filmed just Camenker's responses to Helms's questions. Then, they moved the camera and filmed Helms asking the questions -- this time, a little more embellished.

Ahhhhh.... that's how they do that. One of life's mysteries solved.

BearToy:

Yeah, that segment was a little weak. It was pretty funny when Helms apologized for apologizing for 'not knowing' he was gay. They could've done a lot more with Barney, but I think they were trying hard to avoid the obvious gay jokes.

Heh!

Well first it was Kerry getting his news from the Onion, and now this. What do you expect?

2005-11-10 11:53:31 AM
Colbert Report is even faker than TDS, because the fake anchor is such an over-the-top character.

I don't think the majority of Farkers consider TDS or Colbert Report "real news shows." The only person I have seen say they watch The Daily Show for the quality of the news content is Alexis. Usually we just make fun of douches who think it's real or treat it like it's real. *shrug*

2005-11-10 11:56:07 AM
so, a show is either "news" or "fake?"

no gray area, there, huh?

2005-11-10 11:57:20 AM
Lionel: Well, Jon Stewart calls it a "fake news" show, so there's your gray.

I know it's not real, but TDS is still my primary source for news.

2005-11-10 12:01:21 PM
Lionel: Personally, I classify it as "fake news" because of the style in which the headlines and such are presented. Usually, JS reads a headline that is totally based on facts, makes some comment about it, and makes a joke that is patently false. It takes a discerning viewer to know what is the fact and what is the joke. I think it would be intellectually dangerous for someone to watch the Daily Show and take everything on it as if it was a true, facts-centered news program, as it is not. It is a comedy prgram that bases its jokes on current events. You can glean news from it, but it would be easy for an uninformed person to get confused and think some of the joke statements are facts.

It's kind of like FoxNews!

(I keed. I keed.)

2005-11-10 12:03:24 PM
pionar: I'm afraid you might have a very strange perception of current events, then. (; Might I suggest the News Hour with Jim Lehrer as a supplement? (I'm just full of suggestions today, apparently. hehe)

the_pgoat: Well, Jon Stewart calls it a "fake news" show, so there's your gray.

so that war in Iraq they keep talking about didn't happen? Scooter Libby didn't get indicted?

It's humor based on real things, with a heavy dose of opinion, but writing it off completely as being "fake" is a bit much.

OK, there you go, I completely agree.

2005-11-10 12:08:15 PM
Lionel: hehe. I swear I'm not a wacko. (: TDS is my favorite tv program, I just think it's dangerous for young people to watch it only and think they are sufficiently informed. (:

2005-11-10 12:10:18 PM
As a general rule, shouldn't you at least watch an episode or two of a show before you agree to be on it? Especially if its on Comedy Central?

2005-11-10 12:10:22 PM
The Onion is fake news.

The Daily Show is real news done with style.

With some fake news for good measure.

2005-11-10 12:12:45 PM
the_pgoat: I just think it's dangerous for young people to watch it only

Stewart has said he doesn't even know how people could find the show funny unless they were reasonably well informed to begin with.

Judging by my brother's perplexed look when he watches, I have to agree.

2005-11-10 12:13:44 PM
There was a thread over at Free Republic where the morons were talking about TCR like it was a real news show. Fooled those tards as well. LOL

Stewart has said he doesn't even know how people could find the show funny unless they were reasonably well informed to begin with.

Exactly. My GF won't even watch TDS, because she doesn't even know what they're talking about.

Litterbox: There was a thread over at Free Republic where the morons were talking about TCR like it was a real news show. Fooled those tards as well. LOL

that's why I have FreeRepublic bookmarked in my "humor" folder...(should probably cross-reference it in my "scary" folder)

From this day forward I will no longer wait till Jon Stewart tells me what to think, I'll wait till Stephen Colbert tells me what to think, biatch!

between the two of them, they have more influence over 75% of farkers than rush/oreilly/hannity have over the other 25%

Host Stephen Colbert, the network's answer to Bill O'Reilly of Fox TV,

Huh? And seriously folks, watch Jim Lehrer. the_pgoat is wise.

It's so played out, the joke. Colbert's character on his show is just a mockery of insane hosts like O'Reilly. The jab doesn't even make sense if you include Colbert, because Colbert's vuews, as presented on the show, are abhorrant to most liberals. It's a joke character.

2005-11-10 12:28:45 PM the_pgoat

Exactly, thank you. Colbert's whole schtick is talking about stuff thats so ridiculous, no sane person could possibly believe it. Sadly, that's O'Reilly's schtick also.

2005-11-10 12:39:36 PM
Croooow!: Colbert's whole schtick is talking about stuff thats so ridiculous, no sane person could possibly believe it. Sadly, that's O'Reilly's schtick also.

...and yet, people do believe O'Reilly.

oh, wait...you said sane.

2005-11-10 12:41:46 PM
Croow: You probably aren't going to believe this, but I have actually witnessed O'Reilly being quite reasonable. Exactly two times. Here's a snippet about one of them:

Unresolved Problems Segment
Crimes of "gay panic"
Guest: Christopher Daley, Transgender Law Center
Last year 23-year old Californian Estanislao Martinez discovered that the "woman" he had taken home was actually a transvestite named Joel Robles. Martinez stabbed and killed Robles, but was sentenced to just four years after blaming his violence on "gay panic." Transgender advocate Christopher Daley accused prosecutors of making a horrible plea bargain. "It's infuriating that the district attorney seems to have taken a dive on this case. The defendant and his attorney blamed the victim for what happened. Regardless of what Mr. Martinez thought was going on, it's not reasonable to stab someone twenty times." The Factor compared this to other recent episodes of crime and punishment. "We've been doing a lot of stories about sexual predators hurting children and getting off with ridiculous sentences. Now we have a guy who gets a few years for stabbing another guy to death. People get more for selling pot."

He was right on in his comments on the show, IMO.

The other one was about oil companies and price gauging.

Scarborough has a knack for doing so every now and then, too. But the crazy far outweighs the sane, IMO.

2005-11-10 12:41:54 PM
If you RTFA, both people they talk about knew they were going to be made a mockery of, they were just disappointed in the approach that they daily show would take, they thought it would be better.

The one guy still sounded kinda crazy, talking about how he thinks that he could prove gay marriage contributes to homelessness, crime, and air pollution. And then comparing gay marriage to Nazism.

2005-11-10 12:45:17 PM
But the crazy far outweighs the sane, IMO.

Exactly. Its amazing that the man has a daily, supposedly serious, news show, and you have to search for moments where he sounds reasonable. Meanwhile, his whacked-out, insane moments are plentiful.

2005-11-10 12:45:48 PM
Oh who gives a crap, really?

2005-11-10 12:47:18 PM

2005-11-10 12:49:24 PM
It is with great distress I note the word satire does not appear anywhere on this comments page. That is the correct title for these shows, not "fake news".

Please note, the daily show was still just as funny when they were making fun of clinton.

I like Colbert.
He doesnt think the news for you.
He feels the news at you.

I call it fake comedy.

This is a non-story.

Have to agree with kronicfeld, why do the wranglers for these politicos allow them to do these shows and be made fun of? They do not come off as cool and hip!!

On another note, P.T. Barnum was right. How else do you explain Phil Hendrie still getting callers responding to his inane schtick?

2005-11-10 12:54:53 PM
I also call the weekend update on SNL fake news. *shrug*

I call weekend update "uninspired crap" myself.

StrikitRich: They do not come off as cool and hip!!

that's true, if they take it too seriously. Or worse, if they try to be funny.

2005-11-10 12:55:39 PM
When they cancel Adam Corolla's show, they should bring over the segment "Slippery Slope Man" to the Colbert Repor. That segment is funny as hell (about the only part of the show that is), and could be kind of like the Daily Show's Back in Black segment.

2005-11-10 12:55:45 PM
jer, pinto, and DIA you guys do realize I was being sarcastic don't you? the fact that you all actually think any of my fellow liberal Farkers form their opinions on the basis of TDS or TCR is just a fallacy you tell yourselves. I watch TDS and laugh because Stewart is very good at articulating the absurdity and or outrage our times, he doesn't make anyone who isn't already a liberal convert to his way of thinking.

2005-11-10 12:57:10 PM
To detect the levels of gayness, I will be using this device. It's kind of like a Gay Radar. It's called... a Homometer.
