Wow, so many Stern haters. He must have tipped over one of your sacred cows. He talks about serius a lot because they make him. Just today they are talking to fiddycents and using the word biatches. Gary comes in says they are using it too much and need to stop. Terrestrial radio is so scared of the fcc they are censoring words the fcc are not even after. He apologized just today for not doing a good show for a long time because of all the restraints on him.

Spazzmatazz: Watch XM stock take a nosedive around December 16.

I think people over-estimate the impact Stern is going to have. He will bring in some subscribers, but not a ridiculous amount. Here in Chicago, people can listen to Howard Stern for free every morning. They don't. His ratings are in the toilet. Why pay for something you don't even bother listening to for free?

for good or for awesome: He talks about serius a lot because they make him.

/ah, howard stern fans

A. Howard is great. A genius. Simply the biggest, most important single person in the history of radio, and he doesn't get nearly the recognition he deserves. Hopefully 60 minutes will change that.

B. This suspension just put "Sirius Satellite Radio" into the headline of every paper in the country, as well as the every news show from 6 pm to 11 pm--including markets where Stern's show isn't even aired currently! Nice ad for Howard and Sirius with no chance of picking up a listener for XRK.

C. This suspension just pissed off all WXRK listeners (and all the syndicated stations too). Whose side do you think Stern fans will be on when his station suspends him?

D. Joel Hollander is a moron. There were two options when Howard announced his new contract: 1) drop Howard ASAP and move on with new programming, or 2) see A--celebrate Howard's departure as the greatest broadcaster ever and partner with him to help leave the station on good terms with the biggest ratings ever, following each praise with a plug for the next big thing coming in behind him. Joel did neither: he criticized Howard while Howard is still working for him. Idiot. If Hollander wanted to keep Howard he should have had the courage to act FIVE years ago and actually taken a stand in court over the FCC nonsense. As an attorney, my opinion is that he would have won.

Big fan, Howard. Big fan.

Howard, can you please turn your mic's gate/compressor down? Can't understand a word you're saying!

HardrookwarIf Hollander wanted to keep Howard he should have had the courage to act FIVE years ago and actually taken a stand in court over the FCC nonsense. As an attorney, my opinion is that he would have won.

I thought the problem was that they COULDN'T take the FCC to court for some reason.

They were not allowed. If they could, they would have sometime.

Or the appeal dates were too long. The fines had to be paid, otherwise the FCC would not approve any Big Business. The past 10 years saw all the mergers, expansions of Infinity & Viacom. No fines paid; no FCC approval.

2005-11-07 09:45:28 PM
He apologized just today for not doing a good show for a long time because of all the restraints on him.

Oh yeah... THAT'S the reason. Recycled crap? Nah... can't be... It's da man, what is unmaking him. Yep.

I'll grant that you'll have novelty subscribers for the first year or two. Whether they stay, and listen to Stern while they stay? I doubt it - not unless he gets material that is a step above his usual Beavis & Butthead crap.

/oooh! Anal Ring Toss... #37! Gosh! What... Will... Happen?!?

Only one problem with your alternate reality storybook ending.

Howards ratings have been dropping steadily for a long time. Their in the toilet.

OK, just got the 'pop-up' hair restoration ad. Clever. Except Wheaton sure has gotten fat, apparently. :P

2005-11-07 09:46:56 PM
People using Firefox are seeing pop-ups? Unpossible!

2005-11-07 09:47:43 PM

Booger!

2005-11-07 09:48:18 PM
ganky: while i will be the first to admit that the past few weeks/months of stern have sucked, you can't deny the powerhouse talent that he is.

Which part would you consider the greatest innovation: Throwing baloney on a stripper, Lesbian-Dial-A-Date, or laughing at handicapped people?

Scary talented.

2005-11-07 09:50:31 PM
Love him or hate him, Howard Stern is a farking genius. Anyone who can work a deal for $500 million to do what he does is brilliant...

Fla-fla-floey...

As was commented before, it isn't a real pop-up. Sorry, your browser still sucks. Firefox is superior.

He Used to be funny... gross, and funny.. now he's simply obnoxious. Ick.

2005-11-07 09:55:06 PM
he sucked so hard for so long i stopped caring

2005-11-07 09:55:34 PM
Ha these threads always make me laugh. I never quite understood a lot of farker's hatred for Howard.

2005-11-07 09:55:59 PM
Fark, shiat, biatch, arsehole...

Does the FCC regulate Fark also?

2005-11-07 09:56:25 PM
The "excitement" and novelty of hearing Howard spew uncensored obscenities gets old really fast. I remember watching his pay-per-view New Years Eve show, and that certainly wasn't censored. After the first five "farks" and the second five "shiats", it almost entirely loses its ability to shock or surprise, and just sounds a wee bit pathetic.

/former loyal listener
//all the way back to DC101
///his old late 80s cable channel show was the funniest thing I ever saw on TV
////can't be bothered to listen to more than five minutes a week now that his narcissism is unfettered

2005-11-07 09:58:17 PM
So what browser are people using when they see these (non)pop-ups?

/not seeing it

2005-11-07 09:58:26 PM
Don't give him anymore attention or anything.

What's the point in listening to middle aged men talk about naked women that only they can see?

2005-11-07 09:58:36 PM
Following Howard Stern is like being a member of the religious right.

And there's just no arguing with either of yas.

Wormwood:

Of the three choices you have presented I would have to go with Lesbian-Dial-A-Date. Definitely.

Anyways, i was kidding before... i totally agree, howard sucks.

/primus sucks

2005-11-07 10:06:36 PM
Isn't anyone else getting a bit weary of his rather pricey schtick?

/Good guy, I guess...just don't need to hear his bit over and over.

2005-11-07 10:07:47 PM
Jasihn: Why is there such a general hate for Stern among farkers? I agree that he whines a bit much lately, but what else would I listen to on my commute to work? Radio music completely stinks, and I prefer talk in the morning over music to stay awake. I really actually enjoy Stern.

Well, if you like Stern, that's fine. But as to the question of what else to listen to, I didn't realize that all the car CD and tape players were now broken. As for myself, I keep about 100 CD's of stuff I LIKE TO LISTEN TO with me at all times. Most of it is never on the radio.

Be a farking grown up and don't let the FM dial think for you.

2005-11-07 10:10:15 PM
Wow, that disc jockey is so shocking....

2005-11-07 10:10:33 PM
The interviews with 50 Cent was great this morning, until Tom ruined it.

Either way, say what you want, he's still the King.

I can't wait until he finally makes the switch though, obviously the best material is being developed for the new format and we have only been getting the B grade material lately.

Still beats everything but NPR, until Al Franken comes on at least. But Franken is usually on when Stern ends.

2005-11-07 10:16:45 PM
I hate talk radio.

/needs a working CD player

2005-11-07 10:18:18 PM
I went Sirius early so I could avoid farking 40 minutes of McDonalds & Dunkin Donuts ads, and 20 minutes of 'content'. Firing Dee Snider in Hartford wasn't a brilliant move either.

2005-11-07 10:19:51 PM
Stern is going to suck on Sirius just as much as he sucks on FM. This is pretty much how the rest of his career will go:

Sirius Day 1: "Fart fart fart! OMG ROBIN I SAID FART! LOL!"
Sirius Day 2: Realizing he has nothing funny or interesting to say, Stern will say he's "getting warmed up" or "taking it easy" at first.
Sirius Day 3+: Same thing you heard this morning, only now you're paying for it. And he gets to say "penis" a lot more. Because, you know, that's funny.

2005-11-07 10:20:48 PM
In related news, anyone else see Family Guy last night?

It's just like Stern, only it's on TV. And it's funny.

2005-11-07 10:23:59 PM
All this "Hoo hoo" talk makes me think of OWLS! LOLOLOLOLOL!!!!1!!!!

2005-11-07 10:24:07 PM
"I was rather happy when Stern left the Toronto market and Derringer came back on Q107; I can only take so much shock-jock before it's stupid and boring."

Derringer is tolerable at best, but that Craig just makes me want to puke! I'm sure he does the show from under John's desk (after he parks his car).

He ain't the half of what already sucks on Sirius. It's the 20-or-so channels out of the the 100-n-something that you would enjoy. I won't listen when he comes to it either.

2005-11-07 10:26:34 PM
rocinante721: the fcc has many tools of leverage at its disposal to make stations comply. in howard's case they said "pay those fines or we'll lose your applications to buy new radio stations, and we might not renew your current licenses." It's called extortion, and the media finds it much easier to bleep Stern a few times than to hire top 1st Amendment attorneys and take on a determined neo-con government--and judiciary.

JohnGault: just what do you cite for your premise that Howard's ratings are in the toilet? Or even down? Howard is still number one in the 18-42 demographic (the most valuable demographic) in almost every single market he's in. IF--and that's a big IF--his ratings are down at all (and I don't believe they are), there are several possibilities, including a) the individual markets are ending his show at 9:30 when Howard continues til almost 11 in NY, b) ALL radio ratings are down, as are movie tickets, tv network ratings, and newspaper subscriptions because of a little thing called the internet(s), c) they chop the friggin' hell out of his show now day after day, d) there are other options at satellite radio who aren't censored, who don't have commercial interruptions, and who are already nationwide, e) Spanish radio listenership continues to rise--why? Because Howard's fans are switching? Please. Changing demographics and limitations in the polling system are also to blame. Believe it or not, Howard's main demographic is highly educated with large incomes--not the kind of people who like to be interrupted at dinner by a call from a pollster asking what stations one listens to.

GOddam it I should work in radio.

2005-11-07 10:30:03 PM
You just wait. After the leash is removed, Howard will be funnier than your bladder can handle.

Sadly, I don't believe Howard Stern even has a show in Minneapolis, so I have absolutely no idea how much he sucks

but thank god your lack of knowledge/experience didn't stop you from posting.

to everybody who says stern sucks now: DUH!111!

/that's the point, and yeah, he'll cash abig check, but when the new show rolls around,.....oh, whatever, he'll be really obscene, and adn , oh fark it....
