Mr Constantino said that Greenpeace divers on the Tubbataha expedition had found that healthy coral and no evidence of bleaching, believed to be caused by warming sea temperatures.

He said the healthy state of the Tubbataha Reefs did not disprove the theory of global warming, which he described as an "extremely complicated science".

You can damn well bet that if they HAD found bleaching evidence they'd attribute it directly due to human created global warming effects.

Maybe these guys work for CNN pollsters.

Is it just me, or shouldn't the ship of a truly environmentally conscious group not be all rusty and shiatty looking.

/And let's not forget what happened to their first ship.

"The first ship was sunk by the French secret service (DGSE) in Auckland harbour, New Zealand, on 10 July 1985."

2005-11-01 12:31:24 AM
That's ironic.

2005-11-01 02:09:24 AM
pshaw: That's ironic.

They're arrogant morons who think they can do no wrong. Pathetic.

"They're arrogant morons who think they can do no wrong. Pathetic."

Ah yes, and that's exactly why they've agreed to pay the fine!

I'd say some well placed C4 ought to sink that tub and make a wonderfull artificial reef.

I was going to buy a hybrid and insulate my home, but after this episode I'm convinced that environmentalism is a complete fraud.

2005-11-01 02:32:06 AM
Couple points
1) they weren't protesting as per headline, but rather researching global warming
2) they were using a recent map by the Philippines government that mis-charted the coral reef. The same government that fined them. Now that's ironic.
3) they were using a diesel powered vessel to research global warming. Now that's ironic.
4) the name of the reef is Tubbataha, which incorporates 3 Fark cliches - Tubgirl, Batboy, and Ha Ha Quaker Guy.

2005-11-01 02:32:59 AM
The above-pictured rusty-ass greenpeace vessel has also been fined several thousand dollars for operating in violation of local waterway environmental regulations- (I believe it was in Alaska, and they didn't have a proper fuel oil spill response plan)- and as aforementioned, is a rusty, old piece of shiat.

Maybe we can get the french to sink that one, too.

Or maybe they can spend some of the million of dollars they have in at least a modern ship that runs cleaner and more thoroughly protects the environment from leaks.

This latest event may be ironic, but given their history, certainly not unexpected.

Also note the PETA shelter that got in trouble recently for cruelty to animals.....

2005-11-01 02:35:11 AM
I did some serious damage to my friend's reefer stash during a protest once too, but you don't see *me* on the news.

2005-11-01 02:35:44 AM

Greenpeace is an organization that wants to fight for a better environment.

2005-11-01 02:45:21 AM
I damaged a reefer once. I burned the hell out of it. It was my version of green peace. I'd have gotten fined, but I didn't get caught.

2005-11-01 02:46:36 AM
While it probably is ironic that they did more damage to said reef than many years of global warming, just to be contrary I'll contend that it is not, because it is just what you would expect from those fark-ups.

Ah yes, and that's exactly why they've agreed to pay the fine!

It was either that or be forced to pay the fine in court. Gee, lets see, which one are they going to do?

2005-11-01 02:58:25 AM
No one ever expects a bunch of stoned hippies too think things through all that much. Then again most of greenpeace isnt comprised of stoned hippies so I dont know wtf they are doing.

Diesel. Isnt that one of the great environmental lies? Theyre supposed to be cleaner burning engines. If properly maintained. Last I checked most states/other reg agencies didnt check the maint on the engines. Thats probably why 99% of the diesel powered stuff I see is nasty brown, smelly and belching pollutants into the air. Yet, because they arent checked they can continue to pollute.

/looking at YOU central valley in CA, yes you who paid some dumb politicos to say your pollution couldnt possibly be from your nasty unmaintained farm equipment, crop dusters, insecticide or the big rigs that haul your produce. No, it had to be from the SF/Bay area and now were stuck with an extra special fark you smog check (and of course higher fee for it)

Poor Greenpeace. It's so hard to convince suckers to donate to their cause, now this news on the heels of this: Jury in Alaska Finds Greenpeace Guilty

Lets review: Their ships are made of steel and other mined materials, and are powered by the very fossil fuels they protest against. And the Zodiacs are made of...

The word I'm looking for here is hypo, hypoc...

I just remembered when I joined an environmental org, which is kinda funny since I am a miner (I joined as a let's make peace deal, and to fight a common enemy-the Bureaucats). Anyway, I quickly noticed that the members drove to the meetings, one per car/truck, wearing clothes made from petroleum based clothes, blah blah blah.

2005-11-01 03:33:43 AM
That's as ironic as... as... a Sports By Brooks ad with only headshot pictures.

Is this the new trend to not care? fark the air, fark the water.
Them damn hippies are teh stupid. Look they drive a car what HYPOCRITES.... Ditto Rush.

Believe it or not Greenpeace is trying to keep this planet somewhat habitable for you and your fat little spawn.

"But, but, they did this so...their not...."

They're saving the soap, at least.

2005-11-01 04:04:54 AM
I wonder if Greenpeace can use the Rainbow Warrior to get the sand out of varezz's vagina.

2005-11-01 04:08:32 AM
wow...

Greenpeace's ship came to Alaska to conduct an anti-logging campaign in the Tongass National Forest. The ship was carrying more than 70,000 gallons of "petroleum products" at the time, court papers said.

State regulators charged Greenpeace, ship Capt. Arne Sorensen and ship agent Willem Beekman with multiple counts of misdemeanor criminal negligence last July for not filing the spill plan or having proof of financial responsibility in case of a spill...

You hide your insecurities through sarcasm and pathetic old cliches; thats a normal reaction for someone like you.

You yearn to be part of something; to be accepted.

I want you to know that I love you. Be strong they can't pick on you anymore.

Your most likely obese. I'm sorry for you.

For you my love

For when you feel lonely

We are all alone

At least I do not have to count with someone else

It is my life

There are no words for emptiness

Everyone might hate me, but still I am alive

With visions of redemption, I walk against the crowd

If you can't enjoy your company, how could anyone else?

I believe they got fined for illegal dumping of waste water outside of Juneau. They had their boat impounded.

I love it when they come to Alaska to protest. A few years ago a guy used that steel tube to lock himself to a drilling station. The police went to go get some tools to cut the guy loose and while they were gone a bear wandered by and ate him.

/Save the seals, feed yourself to the bears!

2005-11-01 05:26:39 AM
I'm an environmentalist, but let's face it, people are going to be highly skeptical of scientific evidence sponsored by Greenpeace just the same as if Exxon-Mobil sponsored it.

They'd be a better organization if they weren't crazy.

2005-11-01 05:33:15 AM
They'd also be a better organization if their founder wasn't actively campaigning against them...

2005-11-01 05:39:40 AM
No, see varezz, the difference between us and you is, we really don't think these people are doing any good. They're just spinning their tires.

They're just annoying people, doing their own damaged, and generally just making an ASS out of themselves on a weekly basis.

Real solutions happen through government policies and nation wide agreements and restrictions. Does Greenpeace push these ideas and legislation? Sometimes. But they'll go to any length to get what they want, like any other organization that isn't policed. They'll make up crap, faux science and other BS. And I bet that when humanity puts out an almost immeasurable amount of organism harming emissions civilization wide, Greenpeace STILL won't be able to shut the hell up.

Think of it this way...What if PETA got it's way, and it became illegal to eat meat products in the US?

If it were up to PETA, that wouldn't be as unlikely as you think.
