I am glad all of these danged ferriners are complaining about Halloween and trying to ban it. Halloween is an American holiday, and ferriners should just butt out. I also think all the danged un-American dweebs here at home who want it banned should just move to France or Iran if they don't like it.

Halloween: Love It Or Leave It.

canyoneer: I am glad all of these danged ferriners are complaining about Halloween and trying to ban it.

We actually took it from England, I believe.

2005-10-31 11:43:21 AM
Ah man, I kinda like Chavez but he sounds like he's flipped his lid on this one.

Personally in his position, I'd just ban non-scary halloween costumes. Be a witch, or a ghoul, or a zombie or something. Roadsigns, anime characters and popular culture figures are actually not that scary. Tom Cruise aside, I mean.

2005-10-31 11:44:30 AM
Ah, Halloween, when we Americans celebrate by wearing red, white and blue, sing patriotic songs, shoot of fireworks, and grill hot dogs and hamburgers.

2005-10-31 11:45:10 AM
part of the U.S. culture -- "terrorism, putting fear into other nations, putting fear into their own people."

Gotta agree with him there

Give him a break, he needs to keep the inflammatory rhetoric high. The US isn't the only country that demonizes others for political gain.

2005-10-31 11:46:57 AM
This guy needs to step back and shut the hell up. He'd feel awful funny if we stopped buying all his exports and Citgo gas...

Bwhahaaha. Hugo Chavez's Halloween comments are Bush's fault? Wow, Bush is to blame for literally everything.

2005-10-31 11:47:30 AM
Normally I support Chavez in his fight for continued sovreignty in the face of over-reaching American influence and control... then again, normally what he says makes sense...

Because if Halloween is about anything, it's about Whitey keeping everyone down.

Somehow I knew someone was going to equate Hugo's
banning Halloween to Bush.

Funny stuff.

I may just be me, but why does Halloween not suck, and why does Christmas suck major bone?

/halloween only sucks if you are gullible enough to believe in religions that have horrible fables about, like, oh, hell and the devil and other nonsense.

glueguy

this is his country and he has the right to decide how things should be. whites cannot tell the planet how to live.

Not quite. If it's the democratic country he claims it to be, then his people have the right do decide how things should be. Sounds like they're already doing that and he's trying to stop them. Second, no one's "telling" anybody how to live. Folks in Venezuala are simply choosing to emulate another culture's celebration.

2005-10-31 11:51:09 AM
hugo is in fierce competition with bush for who is the biggest idiot running a country. bush is in the lead obv.
is there a web site compiling idiotic comments from hugo like there is for bush?

"This guy needs to step back and shut the hell up. He'd feel awful funny if we stopped buying all his exports and Citgo gas..."

Hahahaha! That will work just as well as when we boycotted Middle Eastern oil.

You go for it buddy. I for one will continue to buy Citgo gas because it's the cheapest. Viva capitalism!

2005-10-31 11:52:55 AM
And they say Bush is dumb.

2005-10-31 11:53:02 AM
...Halloween, calling it a U.S. custom that has no place in the South American country's cultural traditions.

I hope they don't celebrate every other holiday that didn't originate in Venezuala, which is pretty much all of them.

2005-10-31 11:53:24 AM
/halloween only sucks if you are gullible enough to believe in religions that have horrible fables about, like, oh, hell and the devil and other nonsense.

Well, we've had the Anti-Bush Political Trolls, and the Race-Baiting Trolls, and now, the Angry-Athiest Troll has shown up! Hooray! It's like the Algonquin Round Table right here on Fark!

Disdainful: Ah man, I kinda like Chavez but he sounds like he's flipped his lid on this one.

Personally in his position, I'd just ban non-scary halloween costumes. Be a witch, or a ghoul, or a zombie or something. Roadsigns, anime characters and popular culture figures are actually not that scary. Tom Cruise aside, I mean.

Well, if one were to actually RTFA (not saying that you didn't, but it seems like many did not), he's calling for his people not to celebrate Halloween, because it's an American tradition and not part of their culture, which is true. They may celebrate the Day of the Dead, but not Halloween. They are different, you know.

I don't think that Halloween was born in America, but lately we certainly have taken it over, at least from a consumerist standpoint. Sad, really. It was a wonderful, fun holiday, but now as with everything else it's a marketing ploy.

And then he drops this line...

'He said that is part of the U.S. culture -- "terrorism, putting fear into other nations, putting fear into their own people."'

Damn, does he know us or WHAT?

But Halloween is (was) a holiday about the enjoyment of being scared, primarily by things that you really shouldn't have any fear of.

Fear of a GWB administration is a legimitate fear, and thus, shouldn't be a part of Halloween.

this is his country and he has the right to decide how things should be. whites cannot tell the planet how to live.

I like to live with the thought that the country belongs to the people who live there, and I do believe they've decided...

from article: jack-o'-lanterns left in spots around Caracas bearing anti-government messages and what appeared to be bomb-like fuses...
also: Paper skeletons bearing anti-Chavez messages also have appeared in spots across Caracas recently...

At least Chavez is entertaining. Bush is just... kind of sad to watch.

So many boogeymen about this Halloween. Iran. Syria. Venezuela. I need a scorecard to keep up, or a copy of Oil & Gas Quarterly.
