I heard Takei on the Howard Stern show about 10 years ago biatching about Shatner. He just sounded jealous-- he said something like "if Bill saw me he'd come up and shake my hand and talk nicely to me for 15 minutes, but he doesn't want to come to events with the rest of us and acts like the big star." He also griped because at the end of the last Star Trek movie, Sulu was supposed to get command of his own ship, but Shatner got them to cut it out of the movie.

Stern had Shatner on a few weeks later and Shatner just said "look, I like the guy, I'm just an actor, we can't leave every scene in every movie," and after all it wasn't like Takei himself was going to fly off in a spaceship.

In retrospect all the drama makes sense . . .

me, i always thought George was a little odd, but not in the freudian psycho-sexual odd, odd for different reasons

there's a lot sicker shiat out there than sexual preference, i keep my mind very occupied at all times, and when you only have a limited amount time, you have to discriminate and say "only this or that interests me" (unless you're on drugs - but then it narrows to other things, like food and sleeping), and if you ask me, if you're spending a lot of time thinking about sexuality, one could say "hmmm, going by freud, you're either gay, bi, or insecure in general", or you've got too much farkin time on your hands

people not washing their hands after taking a shiat scares me a lot more basic animal behavior

You seem to be under the impression that we live in a world where homosexuals have the same rights as the rest of us.

%99 of the famous people who've come out publicly have already been out to their friends and family for years...decades even.

They do it to try to change society's perception and treatment of gay people. That's not attention whoring, it's fighting for civil rights.

George Takei said that he did this because of Schwarzenegger's opposition to a bill legalising gay marriage.

So, if you're really so uncomfortable with people publicly proclaiming their sexuality, maybe you should vote for someone who will legalise gay marriage, and it won't be necessary for these steps to be taken in the first place.

I've known he was gay ever since he hit on a friend of mine at a convention about 20 years ago.
