I can respect the Predators, they are a good hardworking young team, who will do well this year and in the future.
But I only love one team. Go Canucks.
That is all.
Oh wait, eat it Calgary Shames, and how does the ground feel as all the flaming fans fall off the bandwagons.

sonnyboy11: Too bad we don't have a KARMA meter here, dude. You just earned a ton! Just got back from the Kings game tonight- we thumped the Ducks. And we got a terrific cartoon on the jumbtron showing Cartman beating up a Duck and then throwing him against a Duck banner to reveal a "Kings Rule!" logo behind it. God I love this sport!

The best hockey cartoon I remember was with a Canadiens player and a King player standing next to each other, and the crown sitting on the Hab's head. Hell, I was only 9 at the time but it was rad cartoon.

Let's see who's first in the Eastern Conference: Habs
Let's see who's fourth in the Western Conference: Preds

Let's see who the Habs played against:
Ottawa (3)
Boston (2)
Toronto (2)
NY Rangers
Atlanta
NY Islanders
Philly

Let's see who the Preds played against:
Colombus
San Jose (2)
Aneheim
Colorado
Phoenix
St. Louis (2)

So who's next to feel Nashville's wrath, the Mexican Gringos?

/Go Habs!
/Still kudos on the funny headline

Hey man, don't knock the Gringos, they have a good young team this year.
Viva los Gringos! Ole!

And Yankees Team Gynecologist, maybe you should watch your mouth, and stick to staring at baseball players' vaginas.

There was another group of Nashville overachievers, this very year, who started their season (college football) with a perfect record through 35~40% of their season. A great story about a little team doing things the right way, as the Preds are doing in the new NHL.
Then, as Jim Rome has said, "Vanderbilt remembered that they are Vanderbilt" and might now completely miss a bowl game.
Just hoping that the Preds don't slide from 1.000 to 0.500 as quickly.

I'm still torn on the rule changes. I like the speed, but it seems like some games turn into a shootout. That and the Caps suck ass this year (the main coverage we get in DC).

I must say OLN coverage is ok, but the studio guys are weird. They spend 5-10 minutes discussing fouls and how "naughty" the players were who committed them - even adding how much $ they have to pay in fines. They sound like over-protective mothers that just found out there is contact in hockey.

/man up nancy boys.

Yep. Nashville goes 8-0-0. Unfortunately, they beat my Blackhawks (hey, why are you laughing?) last night to get there.

Anyone see the Pneguins game last night?

Mario gets called for interference well behind the play with 18 seconds to go in the third period of a tied game - he pretty much had to be restrained by linesmen from going after the referee.

Then the Pens lose in O.T. while Mario was still in the box, and again Mario goes looking for a piece of the ref.
I don't think I've ever seen him quite so angry before.

But I guess I'd be a little peeved too if I was the team captain and part-owner and my team hadn't won a goddamn game yet.

The teams that win close games are the ones that usually win it all. The teams that dominate are the ones that win the Presidents' Trophy, then get bounced in the playoffs.

Ishkur said: This year has yet to be spoken for...northwest teams standings look a bit deflated because all they've been mostly doing for the month of October is playing each other. Their stats will beef up when they get around to other divisions.

By your conclusions, the NorthEast team standings are also deflated since they've played an equal number of divisional games.

I don't see anyone in the northeast worth much of a sneeze at, except Ottawa. They're scary good. Canadiens don't have depth, Boston don't have coaching (or goaltending), and Buffalo don't have skill. And the Leafs? ...ha ha ha. They haven't won anything in nearly 40 years, what makes you think they're going to start now?

Once again you're demonstrating your immense skills in logic. Or maybe you're just a very ineffectual troll, I dunno...

Lemieux took a run at Kerry Fraser back in.. 94? He was pissed off that he got called for a penalty but an opposing player was not called for a retaliatory swing. His biatching got him a misconduct, and teammates had to restrain him. It was wild.

Give credit to the Preds, they're playing some good hockey right now. But it is also true that their schedule thus far has been damn soft. I think the Avs are better than their record (they have a habit of throwing away big leads), but they aren't a scary team by any means and they're the toughest opponent Nashville has played this season. Don't get me wrong, the Preds are the real deal and should go to the playoffs. But get back to me in January and we'll see where they are.

And while I'm in a hockey thread, allow me to remind you all tha Edmonton sucks. Yikes! They really need to get it together up there. Of course, when you come back to tell me how the Preds are doing in January, the Oilers might be leading the conference. Still early. And one can hope that the Wings go on a 20 game losing streak.

2005-10-26 09:57:43 AM
Mario is no owner. Eddie O is no coach. Sergei Gonchar is no great defenseman. Pens suck.

Leave it to a canuck to not be able to count.

After last night's win, the Predators are Third in the western conference.

1. Detroit 9 - 1 - 0 18 Pts.
2. Vancouver 8 - 1 - 1 17 Pts.
3. Nashville 8 - 0 - 0 16 Pts.
4. L. A. 7 - 3 - 0 14 Pts.

Technically they're 4th...Detroit, Vancouver, and LA are division leaders, which assure them the first three spots. The highest point total among the rest of the teams gets 4th.

That being said, Detroit has played 2 more games than Nashville, so our winning percentage is still the best in the league at a whopping 1.000

GO LEAFS!!!

I do hate the new shoot-out rule!!! This is a team sport and they should either call it a tie or play until they are dead.

What's going to happen in playoffs? Are we going to stop playing OTs?

Just read a thing in the paper this mornin. The refs are getting cracked down on and have to call everything they see. And are not allowed to let anything slide. Use to be a ref might let things slide if enough time had passed, or they were calling penalties heavy on one side.

Canuks need something better than Cloutier to make a decent run at the cup.

woo, the team I picked to cheer for (based on their uniform, mascot, and a quick glance at their roster) just in case I bothered to pay attention to the NHL for the first time in about 8 years has so far turned out to not suck!

WOO PREDATORS!!!

Back in the early 90s I kinda gave up on hockey. I had been a big Penguins fan, Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr and such. Kinda lost interest when I went off to college in '92, didn't look back until a month or two ago.

2005-10-26 10:27:23 AM
I watched my first game of the season last night and I have to say I like the speed of the game. Lots of penalties now but at least they're gettin back to wide open hockey. There doesn't seem to be as much hitting which is a little disappointing.

Federov is ghey.

Leafs suck (cue the pic of leafs fan in blue)

I don't know who's going to win the cup....

jmvbxx: What's going to happen in playoffs? Are we going to stop playing OTs?

Two things will happen in the playoffs.

1) Overtimes will be played until a goal is scored, just like in previous seasons. No shootouts.

2) The Leafs will lose, because they suck.

Say what you want about the Leafs but the Sens have never had any post-season luck against them!

Look at how well the Leafs are doing this season WITHOUT Sudin! Just wait until he gets back from holidays :)

Montreal will fizzle and Ottawa will ch-ch-choke in the first round.
