Since the "perp walk" case was decided a few years ago police should be on notice that abusing their power to show off to the press is a civil rights violation.

Strangely, Julie Summers is no longer listed on Local10 / WPLG's site anymore. Although the Problem solvers now have a nice little story on having caught cops illegally parking in fire lanes (video/ pops) . Heh.

mcmnky, if you RTFA it mentions that the cop who did it was a new guy on probation and three senior officers turned down the request.

So assuming the cop was being a good little piggy and following the orders of the chief instead of refusing, and he is as guilty as the chief, its a 40% corruption ratio of those involved.

Not bad. It's probably much much higher.

The guy who did it was on probation, which meant he could have lost his job if he didn't follow the orders. Also note that he asked three presumably not-under-probation officers to do it, and each refused.

Note also that the other law-abiding cops a) are his subordinates, and thus can't take away his job, and b) the Fraternal Order of Police has lodged a complaint, and obviously the thing is getting press.

What the fark is up with "honorary" police badge holders?!? That's the type of blatant corruption and croneyism you expect in farked up places like Nigeria and ex-Soviet states. I can't believe people in the US accept it as normal.

if the guy wouldnt have committed any violations then none of this would have happened. Im not saying what they did was right, but he DID break the law.

There is a law pertaining to illegal detainment and imprisonment.

If ever there was a reason to charge a farkin Pig ass biatch cop with illegal detainment this is it.

There were no laws broken. no questioning needed, but this A**Hole Cop decided to take it upon himself to do what he wanted, not what the law said was legal.

This is exactly the sort of self important, pompous shiathead that needs to be made an example of. I hope to God the guy that was pulled over sues this Muthafarker for ever single damn dime he has.

jayday: If ever there was a reason to charge a farkin Pig ass biatch cop with illegal detainment this is it.

Illegal detainment? According to the article:

Kelly stopped Schiffer when the car rolled through a stop sign.

"While I was on my stop, Ms. Somers (sic) with cameraman in tow, swooped in and started drilling Schiffer with questions," Kelly wrote. "I quickly wrote out a traffic warning ticket for the violation and left."

Once that officer left, the guy was in no way legally bound to stay there and answer the reporter's questions. The cop went in, fave the guy a traffic warning (albeit on a nitpicky matter, but still a warnable offense) and hauled arse. Was it dumb and stupid for the chief to set it up? Yeah, of course. But illegal detainment? Don't let your stick-it-to-the-man, anti-cop thinking cloud your rationality here.

A white, male, taxpaying citizen without a substance abuse problem or arrest record has no civil rights.
Ask Mary Frances Berry (head of U.S. Commission on Civil Rights) - "Civil rights laws were not passed to protect the rights of white men and do not apply to them." [Civil Rights Under Reagan, San Francisco, ICS Press, 1991, p. 141.]

The guy was followed prior to doing anything wrong. That is clearly stated. The traffic infringment was just an excuse to pull the guy over. That is BS. That is against the law. Its an infringment on civil liberties.

You bring this to court and have the cops tell the judge the reason why you were following the guy to start with. Then after that have them try to explain to him why they had the media in the car.

That leads back to the fact of illegal detainment. How much trust do you think a Judge is going to have in the word of a cop who did this? All the guy that was pulled over has to do is say, "no your honor I didnt roll thru that stop sign" (THAT is what the guy was pulled over for BTW). After the guy says this, the state, county, and the asshats involved need to start emptying there bank accounts, 'cause its gonna cost them.

So in response to your question, no, dichead law-enforcement cant just do whatever the fark they please, and that was exactly what they were doing.

in his memo, Kelly wrote, "Being a new sergeant on probation... I said I would do it. It wasn't right, but I would do it if this is what the chief wanted done."

He would have made a good Nazi.

As I see it, this man had florida tag,FDL,also resided and worked the same state. As many times as I driven trucks through florida, blasting past a stop sign, or even a red light is not a crime. God bless this young rookie for protecting us all.

*** Scott has said he released Talbott because of the developer's medical condition. Talbott, a police benefactor and honorary police badge holder, has a pacemaker and has survived five heart attacks.***

in british columbia the cops dump bodys in a jail cell until declared dead,,or ooops,, as they call it..the vancouver police just take the somewhat live body from a jail cell and dump the body in a alley...and since its a cop doing it,,no crime committed...

one day the government and the police will have to comply with the same laws the rest of us obey....

It's Boca Raton. Lots of $$$$. Worst that happens there is the occasional B&E and wife-beating. One of the cushiest places to be a cop. Money can buy you everything, unfortunately.

2005-10-22 05:57:51 PM
Jeebus, no one stops at stop signs or red lights in Florida, especially cops. Sounds like the chief needs to be hung out to dry, but he's probably connected to all the pols in the area. That usually an appointment based on politics, not skill and ability.

2005-10-22 10:51:53 PM
That cop is CRAZY corrupt.

A friend of his beat up a bunch of cops and the Chief sprung him from jail that night. (video from the station that pops)

His cop-beating developer buddy is running around acting all chummy after getting booked trying to handshake everyone.

It's crazy.

The Police union has already almost unanimously voted 'no confidence' for the chief but he's still in charge.

/scared of cops already
//scared of state law that lets people shoot anyone if they feel threatened.

I would suggest that your fear could be largely alleviated if you'd read the text of Florida Statutes 776.013 and 776.032, which make up the bulk of the new self-defense legislation, instead of accepting the media's reports at face value.

I hate Boca Raton more than any other place I lived. After growing up there, it took me many years to trust and see value in other people.

I have read the statutes when they were released and they're still farked. Fark you and your "the media is corrupt/dutch/liberal/to blame for everything" mentality. You're so educated arent you? You sure could do a better job. Why don't you blog about it for your mama and your girlfriend? Oh, the fries are going to burn, better lift that basket. Moran.
