Then take your ball and go home. Fight pork.

2005-10-21 08:27:00 AM
Stupid punks. Trying to change the rules of the game on the oldtimers is just un-American.

2005-10-21 08:28:45 AM
Man, two birds, one stone right here boys and girls...

"They can kiss my ear! That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard," he replied.

That bears repeating, mostly for the ear comment.

2005-10-21 08:31:18 AM
staplermofo you beat me to it! I guess he was out of grits.

"If the Senate decides to discriminate against our state ..."

So, to him, spending money for hundreds or thousands of people instead of 50 people and a moose is discrimination?

Idiot.

2005-10-21 08:32:25 AM
Well if Senator Stevens has to quit, I am sure he will pickup some lovely parting gifts.

2005-10-21 08:32:57 AM
So let him resign, nobody will care.

2005-10-21 08:34:52 AM
Buh-bye now. Don't let the revolving pork hit you on the way out.

2005-10-21 08:35:20 AM
Bye, bye.

2005-10-21 08:41:03 AM
Any bets on how fast he'll back pedal on the ".. I will resign from this body." statement?

2005-10-21 08:44:46 AM
"I meant the card game! The card game!!!"

2005-10-21 08:45:55 AM
I think it is a fine tactic.

I falls a bit short, perhaps more could join you?

/Is Alaskas second Senator also a wing-nut?

2005-10-21 08:47:34 AM
Bye.

2005-10-21 08:48:40 AM
Chairman: No, he's a moose. :D

If anyone here votes for an incumbent in 2006: shame on you. SHAME.

I'd say Jim Jeffords in Vt is OK to vote for, at least he had the guts to tell both parties to FARK off.

But otherwise, there's no excuse for it.

Marcus Aurelius: If anyone here votes for an incumbent in 2006: shame on you. SHAME.

You bring up a good point here. However, they won't listen.

A few years ago, there was a municipal election here. All the news media and pundits swore that the entire City Council would be ousted. Come election day, however, the voters went into their voting booths and said "Oh! I know that name! It's been in the newspaper. I'll vote for him." Every farking councillor except for one was re-elected.

Not enough people vote on the issues anymore. I wish there was a quiz before you could get your ballot. Only informed people should be allowed to vote, IMO.

Politician threatens to resign. Why was this not submitted with a HERO tag?

2005-10-21 09:13:27 AM
Man, Tom Coburn is a douchebag of the highest caliber, but for once I agree with his intentions.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Jeffords retiring?

2005-10-21 09:15:34 AM
I'm glad someone is actually addressing this. IMO, they can scrap that whole disgraceful bill.

I would like to ask that his supporters in the Senate stand behind him and vow to resign also.

Please, oh please

I've been there. The place doesn't need a farking bridge. Evar.

2005-10-21 09:51:15 AM
No, if he cut his own throat in a field, that would be hardcore.

/failed cliche

2005-10-21 09:52:44 AM
The real problem is that if the bridge is built, some people will use it to visit the island. Then the natives will complain about all the stupid tourists.

2005-10-21 09:53:24 AM
I wonder if this will start a trend among congressional reps: fall on your sword in support of stupid bills & budget requests.

Let's hope so.

2005-10-21 09:55:41 AM
hey asshat, you dont need a multimillion dollar bridge to a community of 50 folks....

i agree with kyngnothing two birds one stone

2005-10-21 10:07:50 AM
If Alaska wants a bridge, let them build it themselves.

They have so much oil money that they pay people to live there, for Christ sakes!

2005-10-21 10:09:24 AM
A little back ground just to add gas to the fire. The 223 million dollar bridge wiil connect Ketchikan (Pop. 14,000) to Gravina Island (Pop. 50). The bridge span is slightly shorter than the Golden Gate and at it's apex it will be over 200 feet above water so that cruise ships can pass under it. The reason for the bridge is because the only airport in the area is located on Gravina Island, which can currently be reached from Ketchikan by ferry (travel time is about 7 minutes). Oh, and one last thing the airport on Gravina handles about 10 commercial flights per day.

To its credit, Ketchikan is farking gorgeous.

WTF? Get the fark out already. If you're ready to defend a bridge that will service 30 people for over 200 million dollars you don't belong in the congress. Fark off and have a nice day.

That's more money than it would cost to buy each one of those alaskan fishermen their own leer jet. Some of that money belongs to me. If you can't use it responsibly then get the fark out already.

Whiney little 8-year-olds.

2005-10-21 12:03:21 PM
Oh yeah, and a 7 minute ferry ride is nothing. The state should be paying half a million for a couple of faster ferrys. Why the state? Because it's not a federal issue.

2005-10-21 12:19:27 PM
if any of my elected representatives vote to allow this bridge to remain in the budget, i will vote against them in the next electoin based entirely on that vote.

Can we get this in writing, please?

This is one threat I think I can live with.

Bridge to nowhere? I bet they can get the Talking Heads to play on it.

Must have been wearing his Incredible Hulk tie.

Ted Stevens is a moran. Most Alaskans have the attitude of "hey, at least he's our moran." If he leaves, look to have a Senator Tony Knowles in his spot in a coupla years. Count on it.

2005-10-21 12:27:31 PM
If they can't eliminate such an obvious pork chop from the barrel, then there's no hope of any meaningful reductions in wasteful spending.

Stevens sounds like a convincing argument for term limits.

2005-10-21 12:28:08 PM
Just found another version of this story in the paper. He sounds like a drama queen. "They'll be carrying me out of here in a stretcher."

/hardcore?

2005-10-21 12:30:32 PM
well, trifeca's complete

2005-10-21 12:33:15 PM
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the amendment to move that money from the bridge to nowhere failed, and the stupid bridge is still getting built.

/I HATE politicians.

2005-10-21 12:33:45 PM
I am ashamed that the Democratic party by and large voted against this amendment. Feingold is looking like the only Dem with backbone to stand up to this crap. He is quickly becoming my favorite to support in 08.

2005-10-21 12:34:03 PM
It's about time the Radical Republicans came back...

States rights, right?

You know, they could just redirect some of that oil money to building that damn thing, ya think?

Sourdoughs?

2005-10-21 12:34:30 PM
McCain came under fire in AZ years ago when he suggested building an airport & lightrail system in an area south of Phoenix. Everyone said it was stupid & would never be needed. It's full of frikkin houses now.

2005-10-21 12:37:20 PM
Yep, it failed. Bridge is getting built.
