High school doesn't mean shiat since they kick with a tee. Wade Richey kicked a 67 yarder in high school at Carencro High in Lafayette, LA. Tees make a huge difference.

Let him not forget his inspiration for becoming a football player

I saw A&M's kicker make a 63 yarder in '94. Then at halftime during the band's reunion, some old fart died on the field in front of 77,000 stunned and crying fans...only to be shocked back to life after 10 minutes of failed CPR when they put him into the ambulance.

Was the old guy driving the ambulance? Did he run over anyone on the field? Did he end up going to a Farmer's Market? Answer "yes" to any of these questions, and we could post it 3 or 4 times on Fark.

Ahh, I love living in the South. Can't we just accept that he's got a good leg and not try to explain it supernaturally?

Can't you just remove the stick from your dumb ass and stop worrying about what other people believe? Even some reporter's cliche sets you little fascists dorks off.

Y'know, when your high school football team has to kick a field goal from 64 yards out, you're not doing too hot.

2005-10-20 07:03:55 PM
Hope he kicks his way into the NFL someday!

scootah:

Ya'll should really start hiring foriegn kickers again, 63 yards is impressive for a set kick, but as all time records for first grade ball goes? Its not THAT good.

Kicking a football is much harder than kicking a soccer ball. It's not exactly a shape that lends itself to kicking. Then again, you also have to aim it between the two posts and worry about defenders running at you.

I played soccer for most of my youth, but I'd be lucky to kick a 30-yard field goal. It's a lot harder than it looks.

I work for the high school the kid kicks for.

So I am really getting a kick out of most of these replies.

Some of you guys are very good at making it sound like you know what you are talking about.

But trust me.... You don't.

I think you just want to make yourself sound smart, when in reality you dont know what you are talking about.

This is how bad info gets passed around.

If you dont know about the topic....Dont make yourself sound like you do.

Cuz some farkers beleive anything they hear.

That dude from Roethlesberg should be a kicker.

2005-10-20 07:29:55 PM
Well not to deflate, or piss on his ball kicking prowess, but using a tea in the NFL will get you into some hot water.

Halfing no tee decreases the yardage your gonna be able to kick. Plus nervous booting will also cut down on that yardage. You know with the ralfin' getting in the way and all.

All in all kicking it(The Ball) in the NFL isnt going to be as easy as in High-School.

/Wow absurd abusage of vocabulation.

Not to take away from this feat, but a high-school football is not as heavy or big as an NFL one.

meh like this is news... there is a kid in this town that does that also... yippy do da

2005-10-20 07:43:20 PM
I think you need to take the wind into account too. Most high school stadiums/fields are open ended, allowing the wind, when blowing in the right direction, to go right on through. Its a little different for NFL staduims where the wind is often largely blocked by the stands, causing it to swirl or die down. Congrats nonetheless.

The way Rackers was kicking against SF in Mexico City, I was hoping they'd try a 64+ yarder in that game. His kickoffs went through the uprights, Mexico City is 1500 feet higher the Denver. Talk about thin air.

2005-10-20 07:51:23 PM
On a punt, the receiver may punt it back. Here is the only example I have seen:
Oct. 22, 1933- Harry Newman of New York Giants punted to Shipwreck Kelly of the Brooklyn Dodgers who punted it back to the Giants who lost a yard in the exchange. Giants win 21-7, Polo Grounds (N.F.L.)

This is freaking awesome.

I'd love to see this - a receiver punts the ball BACK to the team, on their fourth down, loses even more yardage, and they can then take over.

/Took me a few seconds to realize how that rule worked
//Have seen, once, the invokation of "Scored upon team elects to kick off" rule, but forget where I've seen it.

62 yards Jason Hanson, Washington State (W 40-13) v UNLV, 9/28/1991 (w/out tee)

Was at this game. Jason Hanson was/is a stud.

And in college in 1988 you could use a 2 inch tee and the goalposts were almost FIVE FEET wider than they are today. How could you MISS?

But Jacques Stroppe used to kick them 80 yards, backwards like a mule.

I work for Riverside High School

...no wait I don't BUT I was there and saw said kick--
what the article did not say was that Jackson's team was penalized for excessive celebration after the field goal and
had a 5 yard penalty assesed on the kick off. He then proceded to hit the kick off, from 70 yards, and it WENT through the uprights on the fly.

Great leg and a good college choice too, can't wait to see what he does Friday vs Clinton (HS not X-Prez).

Heck, Gus the mule kicked them backwards all the time and could easily hit from 110 yards out.

Well, it`s rare that SC make an appearance for good news. So congratulations to my home state.

My cousin held the record back in the late `80s, 57 yarder, but had it broken the same night ....

a dude at my HS knocked a 61-yarder during a big rival game...

He went nowhere after high school.

Regarding the collegiate record, this is sorta cool:

"I was kicking them pretty good that day and my crazy holder Dean Low talked me into trying one from 70, so we did," Johansson said. "You have to realize that when we were attempting the 70-yard field goals, we were standing right in the middle of the other teams calisthenics. I remember one of their players asked, What do yall think youre doing, and we said warming up. Then I kicked two 70-yard field goals in their face."

If there is a God I highly doubt that he is concerned with field goals.

Au contraire. This field goal attempt

proves that God exists. And that he hates the Buffalo Bills.

Major Thomb Can't you just remove the stick from your dumb ass and stop worrying about what other people believe? Even some reporter's cliche sets you little fascists dorks off.

And even some farker's idle comment sets you off, too, it seems.

Practice what you preach and stop worrying what other people believe.

A let a hundred things go by every day, and I let your comments go by in other threads today, but gotta call you on this.

He kicked a 57 yarder through NFL uprights, which are more Narrow then HS or college PLUS he didn't have the worry of a defensive line rushing him. The longest NFL field goal is 63 yards, during a play. Don't get me wrong, 64 yards is amazing but I also would not compare it with NFL. He'll be someone to look for in the future, though.

muckfire:

Clemson has a great record the last few years of recruits changing their minds about living in the woods for 4 years of their lives with a bunch of rednecks... I wouldn't count him as signed and sealed yet...

Besides, you guys have a good, albeit effeminite, kicker already... this kid will end up going elsewhere.

2005-10-20 10:20:55 PM
I once saw Bill Braskey kick a 98 yard field goal without the use of his wooden legs. He kneed that ball 98 yards. Then he went on to clothesline a defensive back so hard is dislocated his uvula.

God I miss watchin that bastard play...

2005-10-20 10:37:15 PM
It's both amusing and sad that any mention of the word 'God' in anything -including a harmless cliche about natural-born ability- invokes acidic criticism from holier-than-thou 'free thinkers'.

2005-10-20 10:38:21 PM
I just love how all of the hard work and practice he has put into the skill of kicking is brushed aside as "God given."

Rob4127: The collegiate record is still longer that either the high school or NFL--69 yards: http://sports.texnews.com/1998/sports/al1027.html

From the article: It was Oct. 16, 1976, when Abilene Christian University's Ove Johansson booted the historic 69-yard field goal with 2:13 remaining in the first half of ACU's 17-0 homecoming victory over East Texas State.

I was there. My friend Larry Carpenter caught it.
