Odd, I heard that this winter is supposed to be warmer than usual because of the hot summer; the ground will remain warm for a longer period.

2005-10-20 09:37:31 AM
Eh... I've seen worse locusts and moon blood.

Joe Bastardi is pretty cool, I like listening to his weather reports on the radio. He really gets worked up about it, he's passionate about it. That's the kind of guy you want your forcasts from.

2005-10-20 10:19:04 AM
Mohler added that an average temperature drop of 1.5 to 3.5 inches could be termed "significant."

Inches? Maybe he was talking about the amount of shrinkage due to the cold.

Joe Bastardi is part of the Nazi party who wants us to believe their meteorlogical lies.

/in florida so wont affect me anyway

the good news is that the brunt of the cold, ice and snow will be borne by the New England states.

That's some good news!

Bought a pellet stove last year to supplement our heating oil, That thing rocks, keeps our house nice and warm, plus you can go buy a bag here and there without buying huge amounts.

also, did you know you can buy diesel fuel from the gas station and use it for heating oil?

Here is the long term forcast for the rest of the country

AccuWeather's Winter Forecast (NE)

2005-10-20 11:27:58 AM
You want a prediction about the weather, you're asking the wrong Phil. I'll give you a winter prediction: It's gonna be cold, it's gonna be grey, and it's gonna last you for the rest of your life.

2005-10-20 11:28:07 AM
Don't fark with the weatherman!

/can't wait to see this one, looks interesting

"However, the good news is that the brunt of the cold, ice and snow will be borne by the New England states."

...Uhh, not if you live in New England.

Oh, umm, er, .... colder, did you say?

Never mind.

2005-10-20 11:40:16 AM
I hope it's a cold and snowy winter in Denver. I like cold and snow almost as much as I like hearing people biatch about cold and snow.

2005-10-20 11:42:53 AM
There is no legitimacy to these claims.

2005-10-20 11:46:33 AM
I predict it will be either warmer or colder than last year.

/loves snow!

2005-10-20 11:55:20 AM
Sure beats hurricanes! bahahaha....

"Global Warming" indicates an AVERAGE rise in temperature. If you don't understand that...well...I think you are too stupid to vote. I'd like plastic please.

Forecasts are like assholes: everyone has one.

2005-10-20 11:59:21 AM
And I thought the "this winter will be snowier than ever" gloom-and-doom forecasts only came from Princeton Ski Shops.

shows how much I know, I guess...oh well

50/50 chance of warmer or colder in east coast.

once in Texas I heard a weatherman saying "there's a 50 percent chance of rain. So it might rain, then again... it might not."

there was also a study made by some group who gave dart boards to schoolkids with the weather on it (cloudy, sunny, rain, etc.) and tossed darts at it and recorded the results, and they were more accurate then meterologists.

i got a kick out of that one, and no i don't know the source.

It may be colder than normal this winter. However, it may be warmer than average instead.

I hope everyone up here has fun paying the heat bill for their McMansion (the housing equivalent of the SUV) this winter, as their option ARM's flex rate kicks in.

2005-10-20 12:17:31 PM
The forecast calls for Northeastern U.S. temperatures to be as much as 3.5 degrees colder than normal. However, the good news is that the brunt of the cold, ice and snow will be borne by the New England states.

Well that's just mean.

2005-10-20 12:22:15 PM
did someone mention sanguine moon?

No way that guy's real name is Bastardi. Can't be.

hodgedogofthesouth:

yup thats his name, looks like a goofball too.

1) it is his real name;
2) he is indeed something of a goofball, and
3) he's also a terrific meteorologist. Usedta read his stuff religiously for years.
4) then when Accuweather realized how many people were accessing his weather commentary each day, they made it 'premium' content and started charging for it. The bastardis. Oops, I mean, the bastitches.

2005-10-20 12:25:10 PM
Funny how in the summer it's hot as a bastard and in the winter it's cold as a bastard. I guess right now it's mild as a bastard.

2005-10-20 12:29:20 PM
It's gonna have to be REAL cold and snowy if it's going to top last winter in New England. -30 wind chills and lots and lots of snow.

Time to get something with 4 wheel drive.

2005-10-20 12:32:00 PM
Then there's the newscaster on the WB up here named Mike Wankum who insists upon lying about his name being pronounced "Wonk-um". Yeah, right! Thonk you very much, Wanky-boy.

2005-10-20 12:40:38 PM

"It's cold and it snows heavily in the Northeast during winter."

2005-10-20 12:50:02 PM
Why that lil bastardi....

2005-10-20 12:55:31 PM
Joe Bastardi is an idiotic creep who can't accurately forecast what he's going to have for dinner this evening.

2005-10-20 12:55:38 PM
Woo hoo!!! I can't wait for ski season...God I need to get some turns in. Bring on the snow farkers!!!

Yeah, and every year the tabloids write about how some psycic predicted this would be the worst winter ever. I give those predisctions the same level of credibility.

2005-10-20 01:19:11 PM
Just learned how to ski last year. I hope he's right because there's one other thing you can do standing up that's more fun than skiing, IMHO. YMMV.

2005-10-20 01:25:07 PM
Ah, Ol' Joe. All that is wrong with private weather. The worst of the worst. Too bad Commerce withdrew their lawsuit for his strategic "edit and release" of some of our products a couple years ago.

Regarding tropical weather, Bastardi has it right WAYYYY more than the NHC. His forecasts are easily 36 hours ahead of the NHC, and he give you the real info regarding the factors affecting storm tracks.
