The [57-year-old] robber entered the bank armed with a boxcutter...

Jesus. An old guy with a boxcutter? They might as well make bank vaults out of egg paper.

You'd be surprised how much of a speed boost the fear of mauling can be. :)

Don't try to outrun dogs. If you are being chased by a dog, it's far easier to confront and kill it. You're a 150-250lb. top predator for crying out loud. Getting pwned by a dog is simply an embarassment to the species.

Yes... problem though is that if you stop to take out the dog, the tubby donut-eating officer will have time to catch up, and he's got a gun.

If he does and you don't, you better be smart enough to figure a way out, because you were dumb enough to enter into the situation at such a disadvantage.

/shouldn't take THAT long to put a dog out of commission though

Add in the fact that some are trigger happy anyway and the emotion of having their pet beaten and you are on the road to several gunshot wounds and a long, very bloody interrogation as you seem to be in stable enough condition to the officers.

A dog is an animal, not a person. I will kill any dog (or other animal) that tries to attack me without a second thought. There are no guarantees with animals, nor accountability. I won't take the chance.

Add in the fact that some are trigger happy anyway and the emotion of having their pet beaten and you are on the road to several gunshot wounds and a long, very bloody interrogation as you seem to be in stable enough condition to the officers.

Sorry, I don't live in fear of tyrants. I fight back against them. Whether or how that applies to this discussion I leave to the reader.

Aumis,

I thought for a minute you were going for the "I work for XXXX; you think you know all about XXXX but you don't, etc" bit.

I had the nerfbat ready and the car warmed up and everything.

What is the best method to "take out" a police dog while unarmed?

2005-10-20 08:51:34 AM
Sennadar: Grab the forepaws as the animal jumps up at you, pull them in opposite directions laterally, scraping the shoulderblades through the chest cavity and destroying the heart muscle (among other things).

/has posted this before
//humans should not fear dogs
///both are safer that way

Hope Valley? Everyone knows there's no crime in Hope Valley. It's stuffed with RTP execs and Dook admin types. Why, they don't even let Dookies live there (except the Kuwaiti princess, but she had her own squad of bodyguards so she needed the space).

Sure this didn't happen at the branch office downtown next to the ballpark?

Ouch! I mean... ouch!

I was always inclined towards the "grab the tongue and pull" method. Worked on my dog anyways.

Cool. The chase was near a buddy of mine's house, and I went to school at NCCU with the writer of the article.

Wow, that just reminds me that A: I don't own my own house, and B: I'm still in school while other people from my classes have real jobs.

Awesome!

Theaetetus: Effective yes, but probably not very ouchy at all. That's the idea, and half the reason why I try to spread the word. That method will stop a dog attack, but it isn't nearly so cruel as the way most people who fight a dog end up trying to do so. Just go look at Immaculate Misconception's description over in the pit-bull thread for a really gruesome tale. I feel much sympathy for any creature that dies like *that*, even if it did attack a human.

Quick, painless, nee merciful. But effective.

Haven't been back to Durham since the Biscuit King closed on 9th St.

Once I paid vast shipping charges to have Jerry send 10lbs of bbq pork and 10 lbs of bbq chicken to Illinois.

Now the BK is gone and durham is an armpit.

"police dog"?

Have a little respect, would you? That is Officer Nutlapper and he will highly decorated for his efforts in resolving this case!

I'd like to see you pull that one off... These dogs are trained to attack "vulnerable areas", and a perp is just a running piece of meat to them. By the time you might pull this technique off, your nuts will be gone and chances are good you'll be losing a whole lot of blood, not to mention what will happen when the cop gets to you.

A dog that was trained to attack reproductive organs would be a lawsuit waiting to happen. Nobody in their right mind would train a dog this way. Particularly considering they're expected to apprehend women, too, and a crotch attack isn't particularly effective in that case.

Attack dogs are typically trained to go for the arm or the chest. In either case, you will be able to access their arms. Their teeth sinking into yours will simply be even more motivation, if you aren't quick enough on the draw.

I would not like to pull this one off, I hope I never have to. But I assure you, its an effective strategy for any attacking dog, as it exploits an inherent flaw of their bodies design. It has been passed to army recruits and dog breeders alike for a very long time indeed. It works.
