Strangely enough, traffic down 2nd Avenue and 1st Avenue is really light today. Usually when the bridge is open, the traffic is horrible this time of day.

/Where did all the peoples go?

That's not an abandoned loony bin. It's an abandoned tuberculosis hospital. The loony bin is on Ward's Island (next to Roosevelt Island, for non-NYers), and it's still very much open.

/Used to work in the Kirby Hospital for the Criminally Insane
//Now they call it the Kirby Forensic Hospital; doesn't have quite the same panache
///Talking to psychotic murderers all day ruins your mood
////Heh. Slashies.

Yeah, I lived in Astoria, Queens for a year, and I never realized that Astoria is the supposed "Valley of Ashes". Didn't make me feel any neighborhood pride.

I stand corrected. Its still Norman-Bates-House creepy though.

How the fark can a steel/iron bridge just burn down?!

From the pictures I've seen of the bridge, it has to be older than damn Adam. This could just be an "accident/terrorist act" that will facilitate the payoff to a large bridge building contract.

Freakalocious: How the fark can a steel/iron bridge just burn down?!

It'd seem to me that there are construction materials on fire. Not the bridge itself.

LineNoise - Little bit of trivia though, before the N (I think its the N) stopped there you used to be able to walk halfway across the queensboro bridge, and take an elevator down to the island.

actually the F is the only train that stops there.

No link but I'm pretty sure the "I work for..." thing started in a Tom Cruise thread...around when they announced the trophy was pregnant.

Eh, I guess Katie Holmes isn't a trophy when he's been married to Nicole Kidman and dated whats-her-head Cruz.

locater16: Fark fear mongering? I just say so because an actuall bridge on fire gets "News" while a POSSIBLE terrorist threat gets "News Flash". I know a possible terrorist threat is bad, but worse than an actuall disaster? Cmon people.

You obviously havent been here long. Read the FarQ about tags and their uses. Edumacation is a GOOD thing. No Fark left behind.

The one freaking thread that I was a few blocks away from today and I don't read it and get to play the role of brap Fark cub reporter.

It's a curse really. I also have the uncanny ability to be in a town that is having a Fark party within a week of my leaving. It's enough to give a guy a complex.

As someone who grew up on 59th St, right next to the bridge...HOLY FARK!

*calls mom*

Mom's okay, folks!

in the early 90's i squated this bridge on the manhattan side in the stone tower at the top. this was whn i was 14-16. not so good times...not so bad either but could have been better. there was a movie made about us but ive never seen it...

I was stuck on the 59th Street bridge last friday for just about an hour, not moving. Had the car turned off and everything. Then when we could move again, the guy in front of me couldn't get his car restarted.

Typical.

Still don't know what the hold up was.

/still made it in time to see Weezer and Foo Fighters
