trollus_and_cressida: Who gives a fark about Bond now?

A shiatload of people aparently. Each Bond movie with Brosnan made more money than the last.

2005-10-11 10:46:18 PM
In this picture, he looks more like one of Bond's old Russian enemies.

I hate to belabor the point, but he looks more like 57 than 37.

Jesus Christ. It's not like he wakes up every morning at 4AM to slave away at a sawmill. Celebrity-hood isn't designed to pummel the wrinkles onto a man's face.

Put on some moisturizer or sunscreen, dude. Seriously.

Welcome to the Layer Cake, Son.

2005-10-11 10:48:54 PM
I loved Layer Cake, but James Bond isn't a mean looking thug, hes a socipath that women think is hot. Lets put a gun to Owens head and see how he feels about playing Bond again.

That "some guy" is a friend of my brother. Seems they were working together at a Sydney restaurant called the Rock Pool and my brother was suggesting that he go ahead and enrol in acting classes. Seems the lessons paid off. Amusingly, my brother worked preciously for an advertising agency in Sydney with another wannabe-actor by the name of Hugh Jackman. At least Hugh still takes time out to eat at their restaurants when in Sydney. Small world but smaller still in the Sydney Film Industry.

/works in the Film Industry as well

Look at Leonardo DiCaprio. He did Titanic, and a bunch of other crap, then he goes and does Catch Me If You Can and Gangs of New York. Brad Pitt was in scads of crap, did Snatch and Fight Club, and went back to crap.

You need to watch some more video rentals, Five Minute Standup. I am no fan of the pretty-boy DiCaprio, but his performance in Basketball Diaries (1995) showed he could really act. And Pitt was awesome in Kalifornia (1993).

i'm disappointed by the lack of sienna miller pictures in this thread.

FrauleinKittenface - I hate to belabor the point, but he looks more like 57 than 37.

See, I actually think that's kind of an asset. He looks kind of rugged or haggard. Kinda like Connery, you can buy that this guy's seen his share of scrapes and got a few scars to show for it.

blond englishmen are only cast as nazi's or part of the imperial army, that's a fact. this most be a mistake.

DiCaprio was good in "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" too. I didn't know who he was at the time; I thought they may have really gotten a mentally handicapped person for that role.

2005-10-11 11:02:18 PM
he was awesome in Layer Cake... he'll do great as Bond

//cheers

I like the rougher look of this new bond. It looks like he has been places and done things, maybe harkening back to his time in the Royal Navy. It also keeps Bond from becoming a
bit too "metrosexual."

The_Flatline

He's a cheuvanistic pig, decadent because he expects to die almost at any moment, and he's a sociopathic killer that is contained by his loyalty to queen and country. He's an antihero who doesn't play fair and lives because of it at times.

By defintion, that isn't a sociopath. You might be able to categorize him as a "psychopath," but in the spy business, you don't hire people who are mentally unstable; They don't make reliable spies. And since Ian Fleming did loosely base Bond on his experiences with British Naval Intelligence, I am assuming that real-world rule crosses over in to the books. Also, most literary analysis I've seen of the character has never defined him as an anti-hero either, bur rather as a hero with a sharply defined personality and wholly external conflicts.

Anyway, turning off my book worm mode. Interesting opinion.

The James Bond franchise took a turn for the SUCK sometime during the Timothy Dalton years.

The franchise could have been salvaged by one Clive Owen... but Hollywood stopped using its brain about 10 years ago.

2005-10-11 11:05:20 PM
Just give me a Bond devoid of retardedly impossible crap (like invisible Astons) with a physique capable of actually kicking ass (Brosnan running was hilarious).

Super-villains are only interesting when overcome by normal pursuers. Otherwise, how about British Intelligence creates a Super Fart that 007 releases from his highly-trained bunghole to consistently to knock out anyone of interest?

Or whatever. Dead franchise. Only to be revived when a black man is humorously constantly dissing whitey. Will Smith, 007.

2005-10-11 11:05:39 PM
fark that, i retract my previous statement.

We need another Connery-as-Bond appearance

/Trebek as the super-villian?

2005-10-11 11:07:06 PM
once again... who the fark is Sienna Miller and why does anyone assign her ANY importance.

2005-10-11 11:09:44 PM
I think all of the comments here about who plays the next Bond are moot... Have you SEEN what they're doing with the plot line of Casino Royale?

For those of you too lazy to follow the link:
Plot Outline: James Bond must thwart a dangerous Russian spy from winning a No-Limit Texas Holdem game of Poker worth millions.

No-Limit Texas Holdem game of Poker?!?!?!?!!?

What the fark?

What about Woody??

That is what I'm saying, what about me!?!?!?!?!?

2005-10-11 11:15:59 PM
technicolor-misfit: He looks kind of rugged or haggard.

Yeah, I imagine It's a huge asset in the film business to look 57 when you're 37.

At least he's a man and not a woman. A woman his age who looked that old would be...

Pam Anderson.

2005-10-11 11:20:45 PM
Five Minute Standup: Hell, even Keanu Reeves did The Matrix Bill and Ted.

Fixed it for you.

"Put on some moisturizer or sunscreen, dude. Seriously."

Totally agree with you. 007 is a secret agent, not a catcher's mitt.

Fark me to Tears

On the poster for Layer Cake, he looks like Putin.

Agreed, it was a pretty good movie with an excellent performance by DiCaprio.

James Bond isn't a "spy", he's a secret agent. His missions can involve spying and subtlety if need be but his primary job is to enforce the Crown's will in a plausibly deniable and often wildly illegal fashion. Basically Black Ops in a tie.

2005-10-11 11:28:25 PM
Also, l can't wait for another Cleese-as-Q appearance. Any concrete news on that front?

No Such Agency: James Bond isn't a "spy", he's a secret agent.

He's neither. He's an errand boy, sent by grocery clerks, to collect a bill.

This dude should be the next James Bond.

I was hoping for a black or part-Indian Bond. Just as British, but perhaps more interesting.

Thank you, Crazytree,

Clive Owen is the one thing that could have got me re-intersted in the Bond franchise again....

I can't believe I'm the first person to get this in:

Blond. James Blond.

/too obvious to be ignored.
//doesn't look as good in print as it sounds out loud.

This guy has all the sex appeal of a public urinal.

Did they have to veer so much from a pretty boy.

Is everyone named Sienna a hot british chick? Sienna Guillory is on the far side of spectacular.

For the last time VIN DIESEL SUCKS!

How the hell is he an actor??? All he does is grunt and shoot things. Although I'll admit I love seeing someone grunt and shoot stuff, that doesn't make them good at acting. Plus I hear he has a vagina.

2005-10-12 12:12:42 AM
Shoot!
I was hoping for this guy instead

They should get Matthew Macfadyen to play Bond.
He was awesome in Spooks and has that whole Charisma thing down to an artform...

2005-10-12 12:26:42 AM
heard of him. Layer Cake kicked ass.

2005-10-12 12:35:05 AM
I second Matthew Macfayden. Good to know I'm not the only Spooks/MI-5 fan on Fark

The article says that Casino Royale is being produced by Columbia Pictures, but the Bond films have always been United Artists or MGM/UA. WTF?

2005-10-12 01:15:34 AM
At least the role didn't go to Trebeck, that Canadian bastard.

2005-10-12 01:17:56 AM
I hate James Bond, and I have no intention of seeing this film or any other Bond film, but I think this guy is kinda hot. Mostly because he's NOT a pretty boy.

2005-10-12 01:31:38 AM
This bloke looks like he could, and would if the need arose, torture you for information, kill you, cut you up into pieces to conceal your body, and then go and screw your wife.

So, yeah, that would make him a good choice for Bond.
