These houses are still not proportional to their worth. If they were to buy houses with the same proportion as most people they would be living in small cities.

2005-10-05 07:46:27 PM
the biggest house in... alamo? the guy's nuts, alamo is nice and all, but if you are going to go BIG, then get some nice land too, pacific grove, big sur, you can afford a helocopter

2005-10-05 09:39:58 PM
Let's see... build 72,000 square foot house for myself, or give tax free $20,000 gifts to a thousand needy people.

Gosh that's a hard one. They'd probably all spend it on crack anyways. I think I'll just build my penis house.

/shizzle like this is why capitalism in the US is farked

A candidate for indisputable statement of the year: That's a big house."

Data Pimp

His property taxes will give a lot to the local community and needy people.

How much money have you donated to charities for you to be judging what other people do with their money?

/shizzle like this is why capitalism in the US is farked

Because....people do what they want with their money?

Right.

2005-10-05 11:24:06 PM
Such farkin' vanity. You know, I almost wish something bad--

Naw. Fuggit.

2005-10-05 11:24:12 PM
You want to use the land for something else? Then YOU buy it, a-hole. It's his dream, his property, his money. If you wanted a nature preserve or some dang cottage there, you should've bought it and made it so. You didn't, so shut up.

2005-10-05 11:24:13 PM
Bah, that's only two acres. My front lawn is bigger than his house.

Of course, I do have a huge-ass front lawn.

2005-10-05 11:24:14 PM
Despite being a pacifist, I find myself wanting to pummel idiots like this.

Maybe by the time I finally learn self-control, Duffield will too and the world will live in harmony.

2005-10-05 11:26:01 PM
he totally has the right to earn that much money, and totally has the right to build that size of a house. i do agree its a waste of money, but you just cant tell him where to spend that.

2005-10-05 11:26:14 PM
Only an idiot would feel the idiot desire to "pummel" an "idiot" who spends the money he earns on his dream house. Fascist pig. Go back to Russia.

A fitting dedication to the sins of Vanity, Greed, and Gluttony. (And possibly Sloth)

Thank god the market values these people at their true worth. I mean, it's obvious how this kind of remuneration is healthy and keeps "great minds" in administration. Really seeking out brilliance and not pandering to amoral slothful weasels that game the economy.

It really sickens me that all the worst traits of a market economy are being showcased in america. Of an unregulated market economy.

Rosebud.

/that is all

2005-10-05 11:28:23 PM
Havelock: Fascist pig. Go back to Russia.

On the contrary. It's far more fun to stay here in America and talk shiat on this guy's vanity.

Penis house! I love it..!

If there's anyone really pissed, it's going to be his neighbors.

2005-10-05 11:28:55 PM
"Sloth" didn't earn the money to construct that house.

2005-10-05 11:29:47 PM
Jesus, if I ever make enough money to buy my own property and build an obscenely huge mansion, I will. For no other reason than to piss off all of the self-righteous liberal morons posting in this thread.

2005-10-05 11:30:00 PM
that's a lot of dang money. some people will never seek out the Kingdom of Heaven, because they have a heaven on Earth.

2005-10-05 11:31:00 PM
Yes, much better to give the money away to random people than to employ all those construction workers and subcontractors....

Scorpio!
He'll sting you with his dreams of power and wealth.
Beware of Scorpio!
His twisted twin obsessions are his plot to rule the world
And his employees' health.
He'll welcome you into his lair,
Like the nobleman welcomes his guest.
With free dental care and a stock plan that helps you invest!
But beware of his generous pensions,
Plus three weeks paid vacation each year,
And on Fridays the lunchroom serves hot dogs and burgers and beer!
He loves German beer!

Fark It: For no other reason than to piss off all of the self-righteous liberal morons posting in this thread.

But we won't be pissed. We'll just laugh.

A house that big is ridiculous. I agree with Moose_Head. Why not max your credit out and go with building yourself a small city? You could have all your underlings do all the dirty work for you there, too...

2005-10-05 11:32:18 PM
This is bullshiat. Building a house that large is completely environmentally irresponsible. His house will consume massive amounts of energy.

Alamo, Calif. a tony suburb about 30 miles east of San Francisco.

You could fit about 80 of my apartments in his house.

2005-10-05 11:35:44 PM
And IF his house consumes massive amounts of energy, it's up to HIM to pay for it. What do you care? Put up a windmill and stop b*tching.

2005-10-05 11:35:46 PM
woe to thee who tries to cross this guy. He used to stab and beat an effigy of Ellison at the company meetings from what I understand. He's done a shiatload to help the economy and viability of the town I grew up in (Pleasanton, CA). I say Alamo needs to lighten up.

2005-10-05 11:37:27 PM

It's amazing how much respect you get when people see that you have a big house or a nice car.

You communists are the ones that think that anyone who has more money than you has gotten it by ill-means.

I wish I had a big house and a nice car. I live in a 1 bedroom apt that is infested with roaches that I can't get rid off, and gets way too hot in the evenings. My 1989 Ford Escort died 4 months ago and I haven't the dough to repair it.

But, someday ...

Ellison has his own full scale Replica Japanese Village.... It's not a house..it's a frikkin' village...

mr0x: It's amazing how much respect you get when people see that you have a big house or a nice car

Oh please. If it isn't outright jealousy, they're plotting to murder you in your sleep...

I remember an old saying "Clothes don't make the man." Huh. Ancient history, that one. Why, they even said that back in Rockefeller's day...

2005-10-05 11:43:38 PM
They respect you if your house is twice as big. If it's 3 times as big, they are jealous. If it's 4 times as big, it's hatred.

2005-10-05 11:45:49 PM
Bigger houses are just that many more rooms to walk through to get to the fridge.

2005-10-05 11:47:09 PM
*golf clap* to submitter for an excellent headline.

2005-10-05 11:47:39 PM
Why can't someone spend their money however they like. If he was spending a million on a VW bus to promote organic farming and safe sex, he would be considered a hero. Wealth envy is a sad reflection of a nation that has become so well off that a portion of the population can spend its time complaining that people have too much money. The poor are so because they continue to repeat the behavior that makes people poor. The wealthy are that way because they repeat the behavior that made them wealthy.

2005-10-05 11:49:16 PM
Heh, Oracle pisses me off sometimes...they buy Peoplesoft, fire a bunch of people, and then get rid of fresh pastries for students in favor of hard candy like Peoplesoft did.

Cheap bastards.

2005-10-05 11:50:50 PM
And his software still is a steaming pile of crap. (If this was f****dcompany, we would describe the position used to screw people out of the money for the house).

2005-10-05 11:51:05 PM
Oh, and by the way...while I was visiting Oracle headquarters I heard about some plans to dig a canal from the SF Bay to the Oracle HQ so he can park his yacht there.

2005-10-05 11:51:11 PM
'Peoplesoft,' assuming I am interpreting connotation correctly, is quite the misnomer.

2005-10-05 11:51:18 PM
//there's no way ANYONE accomplishes enough in their life to be worth a billion dollars
///why don't the poor revolt?

Because "they" don't believe the previous point.

2005-10-05 11:54:57 PM
Sergent D wtf? just because he's building a big house doesn't mean it's going to be hard on the environment. the guys worth enough bling to have all the green technology you can shake a stick at. heck, the article even mentions that half the house is going to be dedicated to "equipment"

maybe the guy's building his own bio-dome and effectively eliminating his ecologoical foot-print. ever think of THEM apples?

maybe the giant house is just a hoax, like a really big fascia with no real house behind it.. just like a field and a tent. that'd be awesome.

2005-10-05 11:57:16 PM
Giant house pics please.

Quote from guy he purchased property from, and whose house will be knocked downm

"I really don't have a problem with a man pursuing his dreams, but this is just too much," Smith said in an interview Wednesday.

Screw you buddy. Some guys dreams are bigger than you can imagine. Go suck it.

2005-10-06 12:00:55 AM
If he was spending a million on a VW bus to promote organic farming and safe sex, he would be considered a hero.

You get one smart point.

When Ted Turner bought half of Montana or pledged a billion dollars to the UN, no one really cared.

This guy is creating, literally, hundreds of jobs, and spending millions of dollars to pay them, and people biatch about it.

Or did you think that money just disappeared into nowhere and he got a majic house

/How many rooms can you even have to build a place like that?
// This is my 5th Dorito eating room, I did it in a Southern Belle motif.

2005-10-06 12:02:09 AM
Screw you buddy. Some guys dreams are bigger than you can imagine. Go suck it.

I am sure he has a room for that.

/thought of Bruce Wayne, "I don't think I've ever been in this room before."

Peoplesoft sucks. What an awful, awful monstrosity in software. It is a waking nightmare. A day-terror.

Thousands and thousands of lines of middle-tier database massaging. Nothing solid under the covers to prevent the data from going to crap in the first place. Terrible, insufferable APIs and tools.

Anyway, that's just my opinions.

"The poor are so because they continue to repeat the behavior that makes people poor. The wealthy are that way because they repeat the behavior that made them wealthy."

what are you, 12? the poor are poor because capitalism doesn't work if everyone is rich. for capitalism to function, there have to be many many poor people, some middle-class people, and a few rich people. it's not far from feudalism in that regard, there's just more opportunity for upward mobility. but not much - the largest predicting factor of success in the american educational system is parental wealth. so save that "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" crap for someone else.

back on topic, the house sounds ridiculous, but potentially awesome. i can't blame him for wanting to have it, but i also can't fault the neighbors that don't want to be overshadowed by that monstrosity.

2005-10-06 12:06:00 AM
Why does Duffield need that house when he has this?

[image from people.ccmr.cornell.edu too old to be available]

Biggest waste of money ever, but at least Mattin's is somewhat okay. I think it's a hint that the EE's should never look to the outside world.

/ Anyone know what I'm talking about?
// Ooo, shiny

2005-10-06 12:10:05 AM
I'm with you, fdrebin.

Peoplesoft is the most appalling piece of shiat ever -- has knocked productivity at our place back to the Stone Age.

If housing was proportional to *contributions* rather than *wealth*, dude would be living in a houseboat on the Lake of Fire.
