From the article:
"To abuse this image, which is central to Christian beliefs,

Leonardo Da Vinci's depiction is just art. That is all it is. The "image" is considered a public interest in that regard.
Now maybe the scripture in the Bible regardin the goings on during the last supper can be considered central to the Christian religion but,,not the art or copies of the art itself.

So, as a Christian, I'm supposed to look at this and go "Hey, Jesus gambled, guess I should too"? Is that the intent of the ad? Or is it simply to arouse controversy and generate 10x the publicity?

2005-09-30 02:56:41 PM

To abuse this image, which is central to Christian beliefs,

Father McGreil writer doesn't know much about religion, does he? Christianity is based on the idea and what happened at the last supper, not some painting of it done centuries after. Monotheistic (and some polytheistic) religions gave up that whole "the image contains the god" idea a long time ago.

I thought this was funny:

Two previous Paddy Power campaigns also caused controversy.

Animal rights groups complained about one showing a rabbit with a missing paw and the caption, "Make Your Own Luck," while another featured two elderly ladies using Zimmer frames to cross a road with odds written above them.

At the time, Power insisted it was a race to see who could cross the road first, but many saw the odds as relating to which woman would be run over by a car.

Dude has balls.. BALLS!
Conversation from when I lived in Mullingar:
"Your father doesn't go to Mass?"
"Nope, he used to be Catholic but now he's atheist."
With a look of amazement: "You mean he's a pagan? Does he worship satan?"
"Ummm.. uhhh.. no.. that's not what atheist means."

/Hated going to mass

Oy. I was trying for the 'gambling' humor, as opposed to the holiday humor. Besides, I never got more than a dollar for finding the freakin Afikomen, because my parents were so cheap. Feh!

No, I think it's a mix. An ad using an existing theme, altered to fit a different theme. Sorta like if you replaced all the people in Da Vinci's last super with the those poker playing dogs painted on velvet.
What kind of dog would Judas be?...I am thinking,,poodle. No?

So was the priest I knew. Often seen with a few drinks in him and ate at the best resturaunt in town (for free).

Course he can't have sex (unless it's on the sly).

Whats wrong with using a 14th century painting for whatever you want to use it for?

It's not like Jesus or God painted it.

I'll take that action; I have always had my doubts about Thomas.
