the state election code prevents corporate contributions for being used on anything other than administrative expenses. delay conspired to violate this law.

If your so-called true justice were true then I could easily arugue that all the politicians you jock so hard that you think are so honest would be in jail next to Bush, Cheney, and all the rest of his cronies in his cabinet and in Congress. Don't be such a dumbass liberal, it makes the rest of the liberals look like morons.

Nothing to see here...move along...

Riiiiiiiiiiight.

Keep supporting the culture of corruption that has enveloped our Federal Government thanks to Republican antics.

Either way, Delay is finished. His political career just ended.

Up Next: Bill Frist for insider trading. Karl Rove for being a complete douchebag. Oh yah, also for revealing the identity of a covert operative therebye endangering the entire operation and everyone she had contact with.

But don't let that stop you from following the republican spin all the way to hell.

Find someone at CNN that has said anything as mind numbingly stupid and partisan as that.

Hard to argue there, but it is anecdotal. It'd be hard to say that there aren't people in the CNN camp that make comments that are just as stupid. They just don't get reported. Meh. Does it really matter? Bias is bias and it's bad for reporters to be biased. That's really the bottom line. Arguing over who's more biased is like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

Three kids who were in the Astrodome a few weeks ago should meet him while the indictment was being handed down, and ask him: “Now tell us the truth, Delay: is this kind of fun?”

2005-09-28 06:24:57 PM
I'm not denying his farkups and corrupted ways at all. If you are crooked, you should be brought to justice for it, especially as someone working "for the public"

Just seems more like a "Yay, we can stick it to the repubs and hey, here is some more salt for that wound there, lets rub it in, nanner nanner booboo" mentality as witnessed in this thread.

redneckbastard writes: It looks like a smear because of the lack of an indictment for a object offense.

A stand-alone conspiracy prosecution isn't suspect. They happen all the time.

The fact that you Dumbocrats are still avoiding the details...

I'm not a "Dumbocrat." And, I'm not a Democrat, either. Stick to the argument. The insults don't help your case any.

You dont want to talk details about the ridiculous money-laundering charges because they are pathetic.

I don't need to talk about the charges because they will be tried in court. Furthermore, I don't have enough information to make a suitable argument on the merits of the conspiracy case. And, I'm certain that you are even more in the dark.

I ask, 'But a conspiracy to do what?'

It's a conspiracy to commit crime.

so the Dumbocrats are on the side of the angels and have not one whit, not one ounce or shade of desire to get personal revenge on DeLay?

That's not really relevant to the questions I asked of you. The fact that Democrats may want DeLay's head makes no difference to the issues in controversy. Howard Dean didn't ask a Grand Jury to endorse a bill of indictment. Neither did Nancy Pilosi or Hillary Clinton. The indictment was offered by the duly elected District Attorney of Travis County, Texas. The Grand Jury considered the indictment and returned it as a true bill.

Your accusations are baseless. Your arguments are pathetic. Your demeanor is childish.

I'm done with you.

redneckbastard:

You are arguing the law, but I am arguing about the politics behind the legal actions. Those are two totally different things.

Actually asshat, you have been arguing the law, and you still don't have the sack to admit that your simplistic assertions have been proven wrong.

Don't you think that if (as you assert) the indictment itself were missing a key component the right-wing legal experts would be screaming this all over Fox? Do you think that you (in your infinite yet amateur knowledge of all things legal) actually caught a flaw in the Texas indictment process? A flaw that NONE of the legal experts on cable news have even suggested. A flaw that I know is rediculous because I have defended more than 500 criminal cases in the state of Texas.

I just want to know how it is that being an armchair lawyer in Virginia you were able to gain your intricate comprehension of Texas law?

I can respect a man who disagrees with me in opinion. But we're not talking about opinion, we're talking about the specific language of the statutes in question, and how they apply to the indictment of Mr. delay.

I have no respect for a man who can not admit when he has been proven wrong.

scooby111: Thank you for your objective opinion. I was just stating my opinion based upon very superficial data. Without actually sitting down with a majority of reporters from both camps and administering a test to them I can only state my opinion.... and that's all you can do either.

No, I think there's a lot more evidence out there than you're aware of...

(And yes, this film does contain considerable political slant, but I don't think you can accuse any of it's points of being fabricated.)

2005-09-28 06:36:18 PM
scooby111: Today, that kind of effort just isn't happening. People are correctly pointing out that FOX is just getting Delay's side and not the other (Republican spin), but CNN is just reporting the indictment and Delay's response in a negative light (Democrat spin). BOTH are guilty of BIAS. It just depends on which bias you happen to like, I guess.

I watched CNN today, and I can't figure out what you mean. How can you present a criminal indictment in a "positive light." Did someone on CNN start telling the viewers that Delay is a notorious scumbag, the way Hannity is frothing about the DA who got the indictment?

The reporter's bias enters into what stories get aired only if it does not conflict with management bias. The boss makes the rules. Report negatively on something the boss holds dear and you'll be looking for a new job. And you probably won't get it, because troublemakers get labeled as such in the journalism business.

To be fair, much of the difficulty comes from bottomline management practices. Instead of sending reporters to investigate stories, it's cheaper to use publicity releases. This is how a lot of goofy stuff gets reported as news, when it's really just someone's thinly veiled agenda.

I'm not suggesting that they put it into a "positive light" merely that they should report the facts straight up and include a comment from each side if they're going to put any comments in there at all. You simply can't compare Hannity with a reporter. He's a political commentator, not a reporter. He doesn't pretend to be unbiased and he shouldn't. The guy who writes the talking points for the talking heads should be.

heap: so you're one of those folks that thinks that brit hume leads a diligent, 'just the facts, mam' existence monday thru friday, then come saturday - he puts on his cape and becomes conservopunditman?

*sigh* Read all of my posts. I start off by saying that they're both biased and I refuse to argue about who is MORE biased because it both unproductive and impossible to quantify. Someone was saying that FOX was biased and refused to believe that CNN was also biased and I was merely stating my opinion that the majority of reporters and management at CNN were also biased and it showed in their reporting.

The nebulous 'conspiracy' indictment is a hail-mary pass before the statute of limitations passed.

Funny thing is, there are dems who have done things that are actually proven [remember Torricelli, for instance?] and have to be dragged kicking and screaming, yet Delay steps down immediately over a mere indictment. Hell, Trent Lott didn't do anything illegal and stepped down too.

Delay stepped down because he is required to by House Republican rules which in fact they changed to accommodate this anticipated indictment. The House Republicans reinstated the rule after a public outcry. So you are wrong there.

As for Lott, even he bore the brunt of conservative and presidential disdain for his racist comments. I'd have to look but he took a bit of heat before concluding he was an asshat and should step down as well.

Okay, that's funny. Yeah, many Republicans are part of the problem, but you're just kidding yourself if you don't think that many Democrats are just as corrupt. Corruption is something that both parties have in spades and it needs to be rooted out wherever it is found with dogged determination.

I actually applaud this DA for filing charges. If Delay is found not-guilty, then I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, but I won't fry him before all the evidence is in and a verdict is reached.

you'll also notice i said nothing about anybody being 'more biased' than anyone else, so it's kinda curious that your repsonse centers around this. it's just kinda goofy to act as if fox's reporters aren't biased when most *are* commentators.

Hmmm....I thought all of you Dem " Blue-Staters " were the smart ones??

Apparently not.....

For instance, I thought you had even 1/2 a brain to know that an indictment is NOT a conviction....

In fact, Ronnie Earle has " indicted " Republican politicians before, and had them thrown out because of they were bogus.....

and speaking of indictment...have any of you EINSTEINS actually read this thing??

And if so, can you tell me what Delay's actual crime is??

Yeah, yeah, " conspiracy " is a big word for small minds, but why wouldn't Eatrle have at least connected the dots to what everyone says is the weakest charge he could come up with after failing with 5 previous attempts to indict.....

Thanks again though, for once again illustrating why the " Left " should never be in power.....you morons don't even know that a person is INNOCENT until proven guilty...and if you do know, you clearly don't believe it...

Make no mistake, I'm no Delay fan, but the witch hunt by the hate mongers on the left is obvious....remember the whole " trips paid for by lobbyists " nonsence??

What ever happened with that??

Oh that's right, when that onion was peeled back it turns out that more Liberals took paid trips than Delay or ANY Republican...now all of a sudden, it's not a scandal anymore.....typical.......

oh, and as for the accussations of Earle being on a partisan witch hunt himself, not to worry...he ONLY gave campaign speeches on behalf of the Democrat party in which he said he was " going to get Tom Delay. "

yeah, sounds ethical to me......

ok...not ethical, but typical of Liberal Democrats...

here's an idea...have a vision...have ideas...and stick with them...don't flip flop, don't lie, don't say one thing one day, then deny you ever said it the next.....

on the other hand....don't change a thing......it's better for all of us if you stay on the fringe
