Does anybody anywhere really like the French?

Seriously, I don't think the French even like themselves.

Seriously, I don't think the French even like themselves.

They used to, but they gave up.
2005-09-28 12:01:23 PM
Sean Avery is merely assuring that he'll get his ass kicked every night of the season. After what he said about Laraque, and now this, he'll be lucky to have any of his original facial bones in his head come April.
2005-09-28 12:11:03 PM
What annoys me is the follow-up apologies for the comment? It's already been said, an apology is fruitless. I know there are likely pressures from the organization and the league itself to do so but c'mon, this is sports, let both the physical and verbal jabs fly and have fun with it.
2005-09-28 12:17:34 PM
Meh. It's no worse than some of the things Don Cherry says about European players.

On another note, with both Avery and Roenick, it seems the Kings are trying to corner the market on loudmouths who shoot their mouths off before thinking.

On another other note, thank god for the return of hockey. Only one more week. Go Sabres!
2005-09-28 12:19:42 PM
nicely done, Sean...I wonder what the conversation between you and Robitaille was like right after that.

I'd be interested in knowing his expert opinion on the Russian players, too. What are they always like, Sean?
2005-09-28 12:21:35 PM
... not sure exactly where NHL players sit on the IQ scale (compared to other sports leagues), but I'm guessing it's very near the bottom.

/Some of these guys are so dense, light bends around them.
2005-09-28 12:22:09 PM
Sean Avery, as a hockey player, is a ass. But he gave me a bag of magic mushrooms in Whistler and his girlfriend gave my brother weed in Vegas, so hes ok my book.

/Avery LOVES to party
2005-09-28 12:45:07 PM
He is canadian, not French. There is no confusing to two, and it offends the real French people.
2005-09-28 12:46:23 PM
In other news: That's a poorly written story.
2005-09-28 12:56:02 PM
To me, this is the most incendiary quote in that story, and it's not even from Avery:

I've seen that Canadians are saying that I'm complaining and whining because I got hit hard," Roenick told The Times. "But I have gotten hit hard many, many, many times, probably more so than they have ever been hit. They just love to complain about me because I'm an American who gets more press than their Canadian players.

Still, Avery's an ass and one of the most supremely untalented athletes in the NHL. I farking hated him even when he played for my beloved Red Wings.

Go Flyers.
2005-09-28 04:42:10 PM
I don't think anyone who plays for the Kings has much room to talk smack
2005-09-28 06:11:50 PM
Reading that headline made my brain asplode.

/snaps to rottenassdan
2005-09-28 06:12:20 PM
Avery's a douche
2005-09-28 06:14:01 PM
Err ... France surrenders?

/skates away
2005-09-28 06:14:07 PM
however, Avery's not completely to blame.
afterall, he WAS brainwashed by Goodenow.
2005-09-28 06:14:14 PM
They just love to complain about me because I'm an American who gets more press than their Canadian players.

Ah Roenick and LA, a match made in attention-whore heaven.
2005-09-28 06:15:21 PM
Signing Bonzi Wells makes them a contender at least.
2005-09-28 06:15:26 PM
George_W_Hussein: Go Flyers.

Shut your filthy mouth.
2005-09-28 06:17:38 PM
Great, another Lindros. Except without the talent, if I can believe the comments here.

2005-09-28 12:45:07 PM minoridiot

He is canadian, not French. There is no confusing to two, and it offends the real French people.

I'd be more bothered that he offended a Canadian than a Frenchman. At least a Canadian could do something about it other than whine.

(okay, that something might be letting a rampant moose run loose in our city, but still - it's something.)
2005-09-28 06:18:02 PM
i get it. cuz all french are cheese eating surrender monkeys. Right?
2005-09-28 06:18:48 PM
Go KINGS. F U to the rest of ya's!
2005-09-28 06:18:52 PM
Sean Avery is from Picton. If you have ever had the misfortune of travelling there it is filled with a bunch of backward ass country farks. Kind of like Eureka Springs Arkansas on steroids. So it is not suprising.
2005-09-28 06:22:32 PM
I wouldn't like to be in Avery's skates when he comes up against this "Frenchman" again...

[image from too old to be available]
2005-09-28 06:23:44 PM
Wait, so who was Avery making fun of? It seems like he was talking about Roenick, but the article says Roenick is from Boston.

I'm neither comprehending nor a a hockey fan.
2005-09-28 06:27:50 PM
Does anybody anywhere really like the French?

I do.

But I also like Americans, so I'm obviously not very discriminating.
2005-09-28 06:28:06 PM
You guys DO realize that Sean Avery led the league in PIM during the last season.

He'll go toe-to-toe with anyone.

/Oh yeah - Go Kings!
2005-09-28 06:30:54 PM
I hardly ever pass up a chance to give the francophones grief, but my hatred of Sean Avery is just too great.

Actually, completely disregarding his actual comments, Where does he get the balls to talk like that? This is a third-year borderline NHL-er whose game revolves around cheapshotting and cowarding. He's talking like he's some veteran voice of reason... Yeah right.

I'd give him the Inglewood Jack.
2005-09-28 06:31:58 PM

The Broad Street Bullies is where its at. Except for that girlie Primeau that is.
2005-09-28 06:32:06 PM
I hate the sight of Laraque wading toward the Stars net, defensemen hanging onto his legs like shorties, and NOTHING stopping him.
2005-09-28 06:32:30 PM
Most of that article reads like gibberish to me too. How anyone, other than some language aficionado, can have taken offence at his nonsense I have no idea.
2005-09-28 06:32:44 PM
"They just love to complain about me because I'm an American who gets more press than their Canadian players." - Roenick

Funny, I don't remember much press about Roenick during last year's Stanley Cup. I do however remember a lot about Lecavalier, Richards, St. Louis, and Iginla.
2005-09-28 06:33:39 PM
is chris chilly azz french? (chilliois)for those that like the french. those that hate the french will have many variations of their names... dubois= do boys. etc.
he seemed to always be lying down on the ice when someone shot at the net.

if you can't skate. get off the ice you wusssssssssssssss.
2005-09-28 06:35:44 PM
So let's see if I've got this straight.

1) the guy isn't french
2) he hit the guy hard enough to give him a concussion, but he will not "back anything up"

Well, it's official Sean, you're an idiot.
2005-09-28 06:37:18 PM
You don't get pussies like this talking smack in curling - they know they'd be getting a Diet Pepsi tossed on them...

/feel the pain
2005-09-28 06:37:27 PM

(okay, that something might be letting a rampant moose run loose in our city, but still - it's something.)

No, we would do the good Canadian thing, and write a letter
2005-09-28 06:37:32 PM
My comment is that I've been watching some old time hockey on digital cable and you never see these "head down, lined up, hits" I know they happened on occassion, fast moving, closed quarters game and all. But when I'm watching, I'm expecting a hit and the dude just turns away or goes for the puck, some of the old greats may have been cut from today's teams cuz they dont head hunt. Maybe some guys are trying to hit the hightlight reels, cuz they aint gonna do with thier skills.
2005-09-28 06:40:05 PM
Well, to say the least, writing a letter would be something...
2005-09-28 06:40:56 PM
Avery is a loudmouth douche.
2005-09-28 06:43:36 PM
What's this "NHL" you speak of?
2005-09-28 06:45:12 PM
I heard in an interview that french canadians hockey players playing with other teams than the Montreal Canadians are often experiencing intolerance from other english speaking players. I like to watch hockey now and then but I don't expect 23 years old hockey players to be very enlightened. The ugly american cliche is alive and well among jocks.

Oh, and for those who can't differenciate french canadians from french in France, how about you don't display your crass ignorance too proudly?
2005-09-28 06:45:25 PM
Did anyone catch at the end of the Article that Roenick's concussion was the 11th of his career? How is he still alive?
2005-09-28 06:45:32 PM
Jeremy Roenick: "I'd like to know where Patrick was in Game 3, probably up trying to get his jock out of the rafters."

Patrick Roy: "I can't hear what Jeremy says, because I've got my two Stanley Cup rings plugging my ears."

And after all these years,(and no Stanley Cup), Roenick is still talking crap.
2005-09-28 06:46:05 PM
The only thing that upset me about Pierre Turgeon leaving the Stars is I don't get to yell "Hey Pierre, less french more Canadian!" while he was on the ice stealing money.

/Sean Avery is a nobody
//Roenick is a pussy
///loved seeing his jaw get broke
//This space for rent
2005-09-28 06:47:14 PM
Sean Avery is one of the biggest idiots in the league. If he wasn't in the NHL he would have a shiatty factory job somewhere, drive a really big truck, come home and drink 18 Labatt Blues every night, and then spout off about the f'in government. Hmmm... maybe we have a future Don Cherry on our hands.

/glad the Wings got rid of him
2005-09-28 06:49:27 PM
Avery's going to be 'backing it up' all season long: every team has Quebequoise players. I'm sure they will all want to discuss the issue with him in reasoned tones, jabs, uppercuts, haymakers,...
Oh, and LA going to be taking a step backwards this year. Caron as your starting goalie? LOL

\go Nucks
2005-09-28 06:51:22 PM
Man, I wish Bob Probert was still in the league. Oh well, at least Domi is still active.
2005-09-28 06:52:27 PM
The incident was the 11th reported concussion of Roenick's career.

Yo Roenick! This is the Flying Spaghetti Monster talkin' to ya! Stop playing pro hockey now -- your next concussion could easily be your last. And if it isn't, your chances of Alzheimers are already increased off the charts.
