Heh, there goes the butterfly effect. It sounds kind of outlandish if you think about it anyway.

I was going to say this link was stupid, but then I looked at it and decided it was pretty smart.

But here's one weird thing about peppermints. They do more than just give you a cool feeling in your mouth. They release the sphincter muscle separating the bottom of your oesophagus from the top of your stomach.

Hehehehehe.. sphincter.

One of his "Great Moments" is called "Speak and Choke"... unfortunately, it has nothing to do with TI toys w/ voice synthesis :(

THAT IS INCORRECT. THE CORRECT ANSWER IS *GAAACKKKHHH*

Karl is great - I got one of his first books about ten years ago. I think he has PhDs in Science, Medicine and Engineering or something.
If you want your kids to get a good background in Science and the role it plays in everyday life, then his books are a must. My favourite is the one how cats are less likely to die if you throw them from the 7th floor as opposed to the third floor of a building.

Mind you, I did a PhD in Science and look at me now, I read Fark.......................

If you want to read some pretty scary stuff for the technologically inclined, try the sections on EMPs (Oct. 2001). One nuke can wipe out every electronic device on a continent.

It says that we are cooled by Tibet, not trees!

Take that treehuggers.

Too bad the Tibet theory doesn't get much press. It really is a work of genius. Most people aren't aware just how much CO2 is bound up the worlds oceans in the form of carbonate.

Very cool site. Oh, and the commercial name for that botullism drug is Botox.

JJJ rocks!
Dr Karl rocks!

(there is even a song about him)

oh, and non-ozzies, go here to http://triplej.abc.net.au/ and listen to it, streaming over the net. It truly is the only good radio station in Australia. Dr Karl is on at 11:00am Thursdays, Australian Eastern Standard Time (GMT + 10)

:)

Ch00k you may idolise Dr Karl, but he is on my list of Stupid Australian Personalities (a quick list I wrote up earlier today.

2002-04-29 09:36:34 PM
Actually Fotokim, I think most of what Dr Karl says on his radio show is complete and utter crap. Most of the questions have been asked a million times, and are not interesting.

His books, however, are fantastic and really give an insight into some of the more obscure aspects of various things.

2002-04-30 05:21:14 AM
Maybe so. I noticed he was a contributor to that yellow "Survival Handbook" they have in all the stores. I believe if I am ever stuck in quicksand, Dr Karl's expertise will save me.
