Today......I have to do something, the most difficult thing I ever have had to do in my life. But this isn't about me. This is for her, my best friend, and the finest person I've ever known.

On Monday September 19, 2005, at 2:30pm. Amy Marie (Yokel) Craighead, known affectionately to us as Auspicious died in the hospital of internal bleeding from unknown causes. Her husband Bill was with her. There's nothing I could type that would even begin to do justice to the intelligence, the humor, the innocence, the sensitivity, and pure goodness that is Amy, so I'll keep this short. She is survived by her husband, mother, 2 older sister and 2 older brothers. Please do not contact the family, any announcements will be made here, where she met many of her most beloved friends. Those of you that even brushed with her know how lucky you are.

I have nothing, no words that can even begin to sum up how wonderful this girl is. She was just too small for this world, and you gave so much to it. Amy, I pray that in my time I'm able to reflect a fraction of the love you gave me, the warmth, the comfort, the serenity back at this world. Be good, where ever you are.

So young.

I don't know where to begin or what to say, as I've spent the last day with a cloudy head, a tear-soaked face and a completely broken heart. Amy was a constant friend, all through the day, every day, for the last three years. We first crossed paths in this Photoshop thread for Clueyee's birthday in 2002. I used a birthday hat in my picture that was the same one Amy's office used to celebrate birthdays. We quickly became friends, and Amy jokingly became my "Official Photoshop Groupie".

I have too many personal memories that I'll always keep with me. But here are some things I'd like Fark to know about her, for those of you who may not have known.

Her capacity for warmth and kindness was limitless. She had the biggest heart of anyone I've known, she was overwhelmingly compassionate and generous. She never expected nor wanted anything in return, and did not accept gifts very easily. She loved you guys, and you brought her joy and laughter every day. She sponsored a whole lot of you Farkers, anonymously, that you'll never know. She took in five cats, all from sad backgrounds, and gave them a loving home when they all needed one. She'd joke about how they'd drive her nuts and she wanted to send them off to some of us, but she loved them every single moment and you couldn't pry them away from her. She could make friends faster than anyone I knew, and many of you received a first-time email from her from out of nowhere. I think she must have read every thread on TotalFark, and her ability to remember everyone's name and situation was uncanny. Me being a person of advancing age and diminishing brain cells, I used to tease her and call her "my memory", because she knew what I was supposed to know more than I did. "Hey, do I know this Farker?" "Yes." "OK... do I like them?" "Yes, you do." "OK, thanks."

She loved taking pictures, a hobby she undertook fairly recently when she acquired a digital camera. She had her own account at Flickr that she loved to maintain. Last year she submitted a picture she took on a family vacation and it became this Photoshop contest. (One submission, one approved link -- beat THAT, Farkers!)

Just a couple weeks ago, she entered and won this Farktography contest with this photo:

I was so thrilled to see her win and that she got to enjoy that. That made her very happy.

My heart goes out to her husband Bill, her mom Laurelda, all her family and friends. The link to this thread will soon feature charities you can donate to in her name, if you'd like to honor her and all she meant to everyone. For now, here are a couple that were important to her and that she'd support:

Architecture for Humanity

Houston SPCA.

She touched everyone she came in contact with. The loss is unspeakable. I'm going to miss her every day, sharing all the little triumphs and defeats of life. I'll think of her everytime I hear Sinatra, Billy Joel, Bob Marley, the Descendents, the Cure, 311... everytime I watch "Breakfast at Tiffanys" or "Shawshank Redemption"... everytime I see the Astros or Steelers play. I don't know that I'll ever come to believe all this, as if it's some unending nightmare. Be at peace with your daddy, Amybug. You know I'll always love you and miss you.

There's so much I want to say about Amy.
I want to tell you how strong she was and how she didn't suffer fools, but at the same time how unbelievably sweet she was.

I want to tell you about how loyal she was.
And how she watched over people closely and really truly cared.
And how she was a good friend, and a caring one.

But you know that a thousand times better than we do so I feel strange saying it to you, Bill and her family.

I keep trying to think what I could tell you that you might not know.

You might not know that she shared in her quiet humble way about how proud she was of you.
You might not know, Bill, that just about a month ago she sent me a picture of you and was kind of bragging on you.
Well, "bragging" isn't the right word because she didn't brag, but in her sweet kind of shy way letting me know how much she loved you.

And her mother might not know that she made it a point to let people know that you moved down there to be closer to her and how much that meant to her.

She let us, her online friends, know all that.
You, her family, were what she shared the most about the private side of her, and everything she shared was positive and loving.
She was artistic and creative and funny as anything.
But modest.
She loved giving gifts and not getting them.
She wouldn't forget a birthday, and would always have a little something to cheer a person up.

And was wonderful kitty mom.

She was truly something special.

She never complained or talked about having a bad day when it came to those she loved.
Or her life in general actually.
She was positive and lived strongly.

She's irreplaceable here in this online community and I can't even begin to imagine how hard this must be for you.

I'm going to miss her terribly.
We're all going to.

Know that she could spread the essence of who she was and her love for you even here online.
She was the best.

My deepest condolences to her husband and family. She was too young.
2005-09-20 05:27:13 PM
I'm posting this at the request of Toriko who can't be around a computer much right now.
She loved Amy.
She was taking pictures of the cute animals there in Australia to show Auspicious and was incredibly sad that she didn't get a chance to show her the new batch.

She'll check in and post in this thread if she can, but for now;

We here at fark had something really special. We could always count on auspicious to brighten a

thread with her humor, to give us a beautiful view of the world with her entries into farktography, and to make a bad day seem a lot

less bad with her nightly posts of cute animals. She had a profound effect on the EBF, fark. and on anyone who had the good fortune

to be her friend. I know its just not going to be the same without her. How can it be? She will be missed.
