Northwest will be doing the same tomorrow or Friday at the very latest.

2005-09-14 05:07:13 PM
They tried just about everything they could to avoid it. Good luck Atlanta, you are going to need it.

2005-09-14 05:10:57 PM
Well, it's a good thing we enacted that bankruptcy reform act making it harder for multinational, government-subsidized conglomerates with more money than God to enter bankruptcy.

2005-09-14 05:11:56 PM
Jeez, I look at TotalFark and it looks like the world is ending...calm down, Farkers, it's just a man and his horse, being hanged...

Or, rather, an airline protecting its assets so it can continue to operate.

Move along, nothing to see.

I thought the original slogan was TWA.

Good. The system needs to shed capacity.

2005-09-14 05:23:13 PM
So did Northwest, it was just announced.

2005-09-14 05:23:27 PM
...brought down by high oil prices and steep competition from low-cost carriers.

hmmmm, why not lower your ticket prices and join the competition instead of going bankrupt?

2005-09-14 05:23:43 PM
No more fly Delta coochies?

Well, here goes another waste of taxpayer dollars.

/bailout!

2005-09-14 05:25:08 PM
Let's see if we bail out another airline before we bail out New Orleans.

2005-09-14 05:25:08 PM
Does'nt this happen to each airline, each year?

They would have done better if they continued with the Ghetto Delta Campaign.

2005-09-14 05:26:45 PM
Why does Yahoo provide so very little information on this 'breaking news' today?

2005-09-14 05:27:02 PM
That's the unions for you. Strange how so many european airlines not run by unions have survived. Stranger still how many people believe Delta's line that 9/11 is to blame for this.

2005-09-14 05:27:13 PM
Didn't Congress just make the personal bankruptcy laws stricter?

Yet the airlines, Amtrack, Mexico, etc...always get bailouts.

2005-09-14 05:27:14 PM
Thank god I flew us airways today

If I lose my Delta frequent flyer miles I'm going to be PISSED. I finally have enough for 2 free round-trips to Europe - the wife and I were going to go next spring.

While protecting individuals from the predatory credit environment that's flourished.

Apparently on planet bsuboy there are no unions.

2005-09-14 05:29:27 PM
i knew it would happen, i knew they would do it, and we still gave them billions of bucks to maintain business operations...now they can keep that, fire a bunch of heads, still charge assloads, if not more cuz of oil, for tickets, and still provide a very crappy service at best...

/bitter at businesses that continually fark the individual for the benefit of their bottom line

2005-09-14 05:29:33 PM
Let's see if they sell the planes in midair.

/I'm sorry, but our flight that was scheduled to land in Atlanta is now being rerouted to Tehran. We regret any inconven...

PigBimpin: If I lose my Delta frequent flyer miles I'm going to be PISSED.

From Delta's website:

Your SkyMiles are secure The award-winning SkyMiles program has not been affected, and you can continue to enjoy the programs benefitsincluding Delta Crown Room Clubs, double miles on qualifying purchases with the Delta SkyMiles Credit Card from American Express, and the opportunity to earn and redeem miles on the thousands of flights offered by SkyTeam and our vast network of global airline alliances.

Federal bailout in 5, 4, 3...

2005-09-14 05:30:39 PM
Well, it's a good thing we enacted that bankruptcy reform act making it harder for multinational, government-subsidized conglomerates with more money than God to enter bankruptcy.

The act did nothing to change the rules for big business. What they did was make it more difficult for low income people to shed the 24% interest credit card debt that big business holds. That's all.

Filing bancruptcy is a common ploy by otherwise financially sound businesses to shed pesion fund obligations to the common worker so they can inflate the executive level's already unbelievably inflated incomes.

Typical republican business as usual.

2005-09-14 05:30:49 PM
PigBimpin a word of advice: book those tickets now. Once you have the tix in hand you're much safer than you are when they're just a tempting liability on the airline's books.

2005-09-14 05:30:54 PM
yeah, it's called Utopia

2005-09-14 05:31:33 PM
Good, their business model sucks.

1) The hub-and-spoke system was great in the 60's, but now it's all point-to-point (Southwest, jetBlue).
2) They have too many types of planes, which adds cost to maintenance and training, not to mention the difficulties in scheduling workers.
3) Management sold their fuel futures about 5 years ago. As it is, Delta is paying the current market price based on 67 bucks a barrel. Southwest by comparison has $33 a barrel futures through 2010. Wow!
4) Their business model is top heavy and inefficient (too many managers).
5) Labor relations are terrible. Management has attempted to blame everything on the workers for so long that they've become angry, distrustful, and lazy. Southwest is 86% unionized, but they don't have the labor issues that Delta has (having a union isn't bad, treating your workers like crap kills you in the long run and makes it impossible to regain good labor relations).

/can you tell I just did a Southwest case study for biz school
//5.4.3.2.1 till "it's all because and only because of the unions!" breaks out

2005-09-14 05:31:51 PM
Wait, I thought they stopped giving out peanuts and pretzels. You mean to tell me that didn't do the trick?

2005-09-14 05:32:09 PM
I hope no one who has a problem with this is a Republican. Republicans mainly are supporting this horrible new Bankruptcy Bill. You know, the bill that will ruin any family who's breadwinner catches cancer, but does nothing to stop this corporate welfare.
