If you smoke pot outside and go for a walk through the woods or play some frisbee, then you're being smart about it.

Which is why disc golf exists.

Pot does not make you dumber, it makes other people smarter.

2005-09-14 03:57:30 PM
kids shouldn't smoke pot. I didn't start smoking until I was 19 (and didn't actually start to smoke regularly until 20). I've been off pot for 4 months because of probation. I miss it, but not that bad. I'll probably start up again when I get off probation, at least until I can legally drink. They don't have a breathalyzer for pot, so if I get high and don't carry any on me to a party I can get messed up, have a blast, and not risk a 2nd MIP.

My younger brother started smoking at 12, regularly at 14 and now at 17 he has really lost a lot of his mental prowess. He just recently pledged to quit smoking until he is done with High School and I'm proud of him for that (if he can do it).

It screws with your brain chemistry and developing brains can't handle it.

just one guy's $0.02

I would say to only smoke it after you have done what's important in the day. I know from experience that doing the whole wake and bake thing for years really kills motivation and productivity. It's like you just keep smoking throughout the day just to not burn out. My take on it is smoke small amounts at night but not everyday. There is no need to take the 3 foot load out of the $200 glass bingggy when you can smoke 1/2 a joint a couple times a week and still get the head change once in a while. Weed can be addicting no matter what the physcial/chemical properties tell you, there is such think as mental addiction too.

smoke weed nearly everyday for the past 5 years - IQ 161.

/yeah I know "IQ doesn't mean anything"
//I say when it's 150+ that's gotta count for something
///stupid people + pot = stupid jack-ass stoners
////smart people + pot = chilled out artistic types

I think Chris Lerna is shooting for the "Most Mediocre Made Up Story Award (MMMUSA)." Besides the fact that the story doesn't really go anywhere, it just doesn't ring true.

I concur

The class valedictorian sat behind me in english class in high school and was stoned out of her head every morning. Stoopid is as stoopid does.

Vitamin C is considered a drug. So... there's handguns in the produce section?

2005-09-14 04:02:21 PM
Yawn - this is a tedious old argument. I agree completely that moderation in all things is key.

If you get drunk every day you have a problem. If you get high every day you have a problem.

If you take a few tokes once in a while, or have a drink or five now and then, no biggie.

yes, EVERYTHING in moderation... a little murder here, a little heroin there...

I needed to mention common sense?

SlipWilly: So... there's handguns in the produce section?

Not so much. People don't often commit armed robbery to acquire normal fruits and vegetables.

watching my friends get stoned, sometimes it makes me sad. like there's a spark that doesn't happen.

but with some there's a mental click that allot of things can go unsaid, observations mentioned and confirmed within just a nod or look, or a word or two.

I think it all depends on the person who's getting stoned.

so yes, i think all the "stupid" subjects weren't too smart to begin with, or they smoked some really strong shiat which no matter what makes anyone stupid... and if you are prepared for it, doesn't really matter.

/thinks weed is way stronger now than then

Which is what they do for shoes.

I'd just like to say, I have several eyewitnesses that will state in a court of law that I drive about 10x safer when I'm stoned.

Where there are drugs, there are guns. End of story.

Where there is Fark, there is stupidity and overgeneralizations.

You make this too easy. I've been around pot many times. There were no guns. I have now debunked your theory. You weren't even trained well-enough to give a hypothesis that would not be tested. Wow.

2005-09-14 04:07:18 PM
Quote from the story

"Well ... ummm ... your mom is gay for me."

There is a complete silence as everyone in the room ponders Tom's remark. After the silence gets a bit too long and awkward for my taste, I decide to take some action.

"Your mom is gay for me!" I blurt out in a strange voice I make up on the spot. Everyone laughs. Several minutes later, they are still laughing. It really isn't that funny."

This does seem like something that might happen around a bunch of 16 year old stoned kids. Take that for what it's worth, but from hanging out with my brother and his friends smoking (at about 15-16 when I was 18 and sober most of the time) I have experienced stuff like this. The "funny voice" is what does it.

yea...like this one time my doctor pulled his gat on me for taking to long to pay my bill..
....cuz no one in america abuses perscription drugs. I know atleast 4 girls with a script for Xanex and others with Loratabs... all legal like. and mostly unnecessary...

2005-09-14 04:09:03 PM
As someone who has smoked pot habitually (roughly everyday) for ~5yrs I can only remember one instance of me (or anyone i know)acting anything like those kids. It was the firt time i got high, not smoked- but got HIGH, and i just geeked out for about 2 hours, crammed everything edible i could see into my mouth, and enjoyed the matrix. Ive never seen anyone spacing out on lights while high(just LSD), or doing any of those idiotic things those dumbasses did. Theyre just lame kids.

2005-09-14 04:09:13 PM
People don't often commit armed robbery to acquire normal fruits and vegetables.

They did after Hurrican Katrina.

They do if they are not satiated.

Although, I can't think of a time where I knew someone who committed armed robbery to acquire pot. It is fairly cheap, especially if you are not picky.

Here is a correlation for you: MORE CHURCHES in a town, HIGHER CRIME (overall). Should we ban churches?

My pot story:

In college is was having a terrible, terrible day, full of stress, so I puffed a J on my way to calculus class. Turns out that it was Tuesday, which meant quiz day. I was blitzed, and walked out of the class barely even remembering that I took the quiz in the first place.

That was the one and only time I went to class stoned, and also the one and only perfect score I got on a quiz in calculus.

Uh, you mean: Where there is Prohibition, there is organized crime. Funny thing about that - the local liquor stores haven't been shooting each other up in gangwars since, oh, they legalized the substance again.

2005-09-14 04:12:25 PM
*shrug* I got a 175 on the LSAT while smoking regularly. (not during the test though of course)

2005-09-14 04:12:49 PM
I think this pussy should have just puffed and not inhaled like everyone else.

I've been smoking for a while and I will agree it makes you stupid. But I would rather here it from someone who knows 1st hand and not some judgmental outsider.

Back to you, McGruff.

2005-09-14 04:14:12 PM
I dunno, I know lots of idots who have never touched the stuff and lots of smart people who are total pot heads...

Pot doesn't make people stupid, people make people stupid.

2005-09-14 04:14:17 PM
I got really high once before a terribly boring class (the last one of the semester before the exam)

Right int he middle of class I said "beep" not loud, but in a regular voice. The prof paused for a few seconds and continued as if nothing has happened.

That lame ass story is the only story I have about smoking and going to a class.

After careful scientific observation of his friends, teen discovers that smoking pot makes you stupid-ER

Chris Lerna is a kid I would trust pretty easily from this article. He's young, rational, able to distance himself from the emotional fickleness of the peer group around him, and he can logically draw sensible conclusions without self-prejudice from the obvious + subtle actions of the people around himself.

I hope this kid gets a job keeping this world sane and has the power to enforce this someday.

Seems like the guy that hit the table was freaking out because of pills, not pot.

Sloth_DC: - the local liquor stores haven't been shooting each other up in gangwars since, oh, they legalized the substance again.

On second thought, maybe it could be a good thing if weed and mushrooms were legal. I don't think that coke, speed or opiates should be though. Okay, maybe just opium.

2005-09-14 04:16:04 PM
I'm not a pot smoker but people have to get their jollies from something. For me it's tea.

It's weird...I've got friends of mine who have some serious control issues with pot, and others who smoke occasionally who are successful programmers and engineers. I'm a biology student who tokes up pretty regularly, unless I've got a big test or project coming up, and I've always done well. I guess it depends on the mindset of the person doing it.

/joint+red wine+pasta with homemade sauce= mmmmmmmmm!

One of the two scenarios below, is true

1)Moderate pot smoking makes you smarter but heavy smoking does the reverse.

--OR--

2)Smarter people smoke & smoke moderately. Dumber people smoke & smoke heavily. Those who don't smoke, fall in between.

Based on the findings in Current and former marijuana use: preliminary findings of a longitudinal study of effects on IQ in young adults

Rollo Tomasi, that's how it is in The Netherlands. Coffeeshops for cannabis, and Smart Shops for mushrooms and peyote. Only wish acid were included as well.

2005-09-14 04:23:47 PM
Yes, indeed. Weed makes you stupid, alcohol makes you stupid. Getting up in the morning makes you stupid for a while. Lots of things make you stupid. Everyone needs a little stupidity from time to time. But not too much. Stupidity in moderation.

2005-09-14 04:23:59 PM
Let me just reiterate the overall trend of this thread:
Stupid before pot use = stupid after pot use.

Yup. I'd have to agree.

2005-09-14 04:26:30 PM
I work with a guy that is a regular user (minimum every other day, most of the time it's every day) and he claims it hasn't affected him. The problem is he can't remember anything I told him 5 minutes ago. He's kind of a worthless worker.

Bijou [TotalFark]

stupidity is relative, clever people smoke pot in order to cope with people of mere average intelligence

Well said.

And I call shanagins on this article. The kid wrote the article for Youth Outlook... whos website explains:

"Unlike most youth media programs, we draw on the most marginal and invisible sectors of youth culturefrom juvenile hall detainees to homeless, immigrant and minority teenagers and young adults."

Someone earlier in the post said it read like a bad essay required to get off probation... and I think they may be onto something.

2005-09-14 04:28:52 PM
Whoever decided that non-pot-users are even qualified to write about pot use must have been pretty stoned at the time.

2005-09-14 04:29:02 PM
The writer should do an article when she goes to a party with all her friends and doesn't drink.

"Then Mark tried to touch my boobs and I told him to back off, then he said, awwww cummmonn dude, sheesh, i just wannna...dam...fargin..yousanef...20 dollars! Then he puked on my feet."

2005-09-14 04:29:06 PM
dulx: Only wish acid were included as well.

Your right, I guess that one should probably be legal too. I think maybe some sort of age requirement would be sensible.
