Sloth_DC: I'm still not meeting you in Wichita for drinks.

Don't live even near Wichita and I didn't ask you. Hmmn, but I'm free associating to Kansas and I came up with Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz. Do I remind you of Dorothy just because I said that I believe in religion and government? That was not to imply by any means that I have ruby slippers or muchkins for friends. On that one, I agree with George Bush. I hate munchkins.

I thought you were the one suggesting everyone meet halfway and have drinks. Halfway between you and me is Wichita, and I refuse to go back there.

On that one, I agree with George Bush. I hate munchkins.

The little tiny donut bits? Those are great!

I love reading you argue (don't take that the wrong way, please). Though I disagree with you on most points, you always articulate your thoughts well, support your opinions, and rarely (if ever) resort to trolling and logical fallacy.

Your doing this from work??
Talk about irresponsible, if I were your boss, I would fire you.

I_Luv_Ladyberrys: I would rather be in control how my money is spent then leave it up to pork barrel politics.

Repeat: You may not be able to get your federal tax dollars back, but there is a way you can direct your tax dollars toward causes you support.

Determine the amount of federal taxes you will be paying for 2005 and donate a portion of that amount to the charity or charities of your choice on or before Dec. 31, 2005. You can then write this amount off your taxes in April 2006.

Humanitatian charities like the Salvation Army or other non-humanitarian organiziations like the Mozilla Foundation. Whatever you would like some of your money to support.

Check with the organization(s) first to make sure your donation will be tax deductible.

You may not be able to get your federal tax dollars back, but you can put them toward a better use.

Dont you Dumbocrats get it by now?

Every time you think you have caught the Bush people, they weasel out of it.

It's not about reality, it's about PR. If you cant win the PR, reality dont mean jack.

Spin to win.

Many liberals, as the party of ideals and conscience, refuse to stoop to the nadir of political thought that the Republican party embodies. I do not. I believe that the only way to deal with the media-machine spin that the Republican right controls is with counter-spin. I think many of the more outspoken farkers agree.

Democrats are asshats, for the most part. We could use more great thinkers and strategists like Bill Clinton and Ted Kennedy, Al Gore and Dennis Kucinich.

2005-09-10 09:12:15 PM
KingLago: That is such a shiatty analogy. You think the rescuers are going to hide the bodies unless the press is there watching over their shoulder??? And who is going to deny any of this has happened? It is on cable news all day long.

You don't understand. The Republicans are desperate for coverage of the disaster to just go away. The longer the coverage lasts, the longer people will continue to wonder why we didn't do a better job of responding to the disaster.

The standard Republican response to critical media is to shut down access for the critics. That's how they turned the Whitehouse press corp into eunuchs.

Ugh, I went off on ponte the other day cause he was pushing all the wrong buttons, and I felt bad about that. And now you just made me feel even worse.

FARKING READ THIS

Why does EVERYONE support the Red Cross. Doesn't ANYONE know that they, time and time again, collect and hold back money during a time of crisis. They hardly used ANY of the 9/11 relief money. If you donate money to the Red Cross and go to sleep feeling happier, you should really be goign to sleep feeling awful, that your contribution was wasted and people will still suffer.

2005-09-10 09:22:46 PM
Anagrammer: CNN on 9/11: "We can't show the bodies. It might inflame the country!"

CNN on Hurricane Katrina: "We have to show the bodies. It will inflame the country!"

And do you know why that makes very good sense? Because the bodies on 9/11 were used by politicians to panic people into supporting a really inept and unnecessary war, and the bodies from Katrina are being used by the people to urge the politicians to fix a serious problem in our national disaster preparedness. Which of these outcomes is better for the country?

FARKING UNTRUE,

There was a HUGE dust up after 9/11 on just this fact.

HOWEVER, SINCE THEN THE RED CROSS HAS COME OUT AND SAID THEY DIDN'T DO IT. AND IT WOULD HAVE BEEN AGAINST THE LAW IF THEY DID

Before you post, please check your facts.

Hmm, I hope your right. I recently saw an article to the contrary, but I didn't read it (something about how they and most other charities are owned by the same corp.?), so I guess you win -- for now.

It's still theft, I don't want to be robbed at all. People have a right to just compensation for the fruit of their labor. Rights can't (or at least shouldn't, under the law) be taxed. Thanks for the info anyway.

If it makes you feel better, Operation Blessing is using their donations to send a bunch of Bibles. Why this is useful, I don't know.

Very nice profile. But hey guy, I saw you ask quickdraw to marry you already over on the other Katrina thread today. My auntie always done told me some rather sagacious advice, "Now, don't you be no sloppy seconds now, girl".

If CNN wants to be so thorough, I assume they'll be investigating Save Our Wetlands, Inc., who sued and successfully stopped the Army Corp of Engineers from building floodgates in New Orleans?

I haven't clicked on that yet, but I can only hope they mean to drop them into the 9th Ward and soak up all of the toxic waste that's been sitting there for 10 days.

Are you a gay hooker? If so, you can start a blog and get a pass to the Whitehouse press room. You won't even need to use your real name. Isn't that keen?

I disagree. Why woudl they date their sources when the link to them and the linking page has the date on it.

Then Red Cross President Dr. Bernadine Healy arrogantly responded when questioned about the withholding of funds by stating, "The Liberty Fund is a war fund. It has evolved into a war fund."

Despite the family members of victims of 9/11 complaining bitterly to a House Energy and Commerce Committee's oversight panel, the issue seemed to be brushed under the carpet and the mud didn't stick.

I didn't check this, but I don't think they are lying. Alex Jones may be nuts, be he has sources for all his articles he publishes.

No, I didn't make it, and yes, it technically is SFW.

What I like about the Libertarian party is they are socially liberal and fiscally conservative, but perhaps...too much so.

I want a more efficient government. One that is smaller, does a few government services, but well.

I want Social Security to be a choice, not something I'm born into, and not something I have to go through a long process to get out of.

Anyway, sticking with any one party's ideals is a mistake in and of itself. Any person that votes a straight anything ticket has something wrong with their head.

2005-09-10 09:41:02 PM
OLD news. So since the Red Cross did it in the past, they are not going to do it again in the future.

Ok, I will take your word for it! Going to WAWA now to donate my life savings to Red Cross Bank!

Hmm, bad idea, cause people like me would opt out. While people like those poor shiats in New Orleans would have nothing in the pot to split up.

"Tell that to Heinlein, Pournelle, Niven, or, hell, just about any decent sci-fi writer. Oddly, the really smart creative people tend to be (politically) conservative "

Robert A. Heinlein, Libertarian
Jerry Pournelle, Asshole (yes, I've told him to his face)
Larry Niven, Trust Fund Baby

Shocked you didn't mention LDS social conservative Card.

How about Gaiman, Asimov, Lieber, Farmer, Phil Dick, Ellison, Bradbury (until recently, he's sliping), Willis, Joseph Campbell, Glen Cook, ...

It's like the book of famous conservative comedians. This thick || printed with a 54 point font on match book sized pages.
