#1. Roy Jones Jr. is pound-for-pound the greatest fighter ever.

#2. Ticket sales are pointless. It's all about the $957 million PPV TV contract.

RRJ = Roy Rones JR?

Microbob - Uhm.. Derrick Harmon is a good fighter. Didn't RJJ also fight that chump Bernard Hopkins?
2002-04-25 03:26:46 PM
... and win?

I was wondering the same thing Puckhead .

He beat Hopkins 6 years ago, Hopkins is 0-1 since then.

Hopkins is at the top NOW.

RRJ is at the top NOW.

Why don't they fight?

"you all must of forgot."

Maybe he's the greatest boxer pound for pound ever, but definitly not the greatest "fighter".
There's a difference.

Simpman76...thank you.

Actually, he rates pretty low on my P4P list (not that I keep one b/c I think they are silly).

RRJ has never been tested and dodges fights.

Microbob - I'd love to see them fight. No disrespect for Hopkins meant, he's been jerked around pretty bad by Don King.

Anyone who buys this fight is a dumb@ss and is Don King's biatch.

Scrotar: Me too. Though I'm going to find boxing a little harder to watch after the latest Mayweather fieasco...

Anyway, I'm with you. I would love to see that fight (though I think Hopkins would go down).

One question: Why doens't the winner of a boxing match get the bigger pay day?
2002-04-25 04:42:47 PM
Microbob - The Mayweather fight was frustrating. He was getting a lot of slick looking couterpunches in; I'd like to think that this fooled the judges rather than think that the decision was dirty. It looked to me like Castillo scared the hell out of Mayweather. I personally thought Mayweather outboxed him, but I don't think the margin was THAT high. I'm more for skill than heart. I think heart is foolish... anteing up your brain and future to bet on a lucky shot. Aggression is the second priority for me... Castillo definitely had Mayweather pasted in that category.

"One question: Why doens't the winner of a boxing match get the bigger pay day?"

Heh, I wish I knew.

I think it would be nice if there was a prize pool for each fight, with the victor getting 65%, the loser 35%. It would much more fair than the 'pay per pull' system.

Good point.

I was trying to think of another one-on-one sport where the payout works like boxing. Tennis? Chess? People watch the USOpen for Pete Sampris [sic], but if he doens't win he doesn't take home big biggest check.

I know it is corrupt as hell, that is why it works the way it does....
