Should I care or be suprised?

What's that??? News is staged??? Next thing you're going to claim is that reality television is staged as well.

I would of just fired him for not being very entertaining - RTA.

Big deal. These were all generic scenes anyhow. Does it really matter if the background image people see of a 'woman who just broke up with her boyfriend' is only acting the part?

would have been better if it was a gameshow that made you cut your fingers off if you answered wrong or hooked up jumper cables to your nuts in the bonus round

Buy a Japan Rail Pass for yourself. You can only buy them from outside the country. They are not cheap (around $250 for 7 days, IIRC), but you can take unlimited rides on the shinkansen (bullet trains) and other light rail, wherever you want to go. (Does not include most subway systems.) My wife and I did it when we went last summer, and though I balked a bit at the price, it gave us a ton of freedom once we were there. And the shinkansen are so cool, I could have stayed the entire week just riding those from town to town.

Japan is a cool place to visit; have fun.

Not strange. Practice poor journalism --> you're fired.

At least, that's how it should be.

I didn't think 'news' being staged was news any longer....

isn't anyone else struck by the irony that the article is about wretched train conditions, a farker going there asks for advice, and another farker tells him to take the train?

i think my first piece of advice would be "avoid rush hour."

I can't believe that any one would stoop so low to actually rig thier own shows

He should have contested it in court, after all if Bush can fake filling up a levee for a photo op, cant see why he should bother looking for random people that were just about to do whatever his boss wants the lead story to be.

Er, wha? It is? I RTFA, and didn't see anything about trains. I did read this, however:

In another show on July 29 last year residents were asked what they were doing to beat the summer heat, but the three people that appeared on the show were friends of the director. At his request, one of the women was pictured shutting herself in a room and dieting.

It does sound like the lamest morning show of all time, though.

Any local news outlet, especially here in Philadelphia, where all the local "news" programs magically become Philadelphia Eagles infomercials around this time of year, would welcome this guy with open arms.

Yup. It's best to limit your time in Tokyo to a day or two. There are much more interesting sights outside the big city.

Thanks a lot for the tips, guys.

No, I won't be staying in Tokyo a lot, mostly in Sagami-Ono, but I plan to visit other places besides Tokyo.
