Of course, while the gas here is around $7.5, I live 1 km from work, so I just walk to work and back home.

Milwaukee, WI:

Monday it was $2.99/gallon, Tuesday after the hurricane it jumped to $3.49/gallon. Wed the govenor signed some kind of bill outlawing gasoline price gouging, and it dropped to $3.29. Strange, I say.

$3.09 ~ $3.99 per gallon, regular. Depending where you go.

There is a Stop n Shop in Agawam that was selling for $2.45 per gallon with your Stop n Shop card. There were huge lines and they had to hire a cop to keep people from going too nuts.

OK, does anyone know if there is a "gas shortage" in NC? My mother and her friends are supposed to go there this week.

Last I saw, gas was from $2.87 - 2.99/gal in Miami-Kendall area.

Haven't been out since yesterday morning. I'm saving that $2.65/gal gas I filled up with on Monday.

Hawaii's first batch of gas under the wholesale gas cap hits on Monday.

Bet we take the trophy back from all your mainlanders, except maybe gougers in Louisiana.

Stay tuned!

In the meantime--it was $2.89/gallon on Friday. I'll keep you posted. Until then--

HA HA! YOU NOW KNOW WHAT EXPENSIVE GASOLINE LOOKS LIKE!

Forsythe P. Jones: I love it. Where'd you see $3.89, though?

Was $3.35 yesterday. I don't have the guts to look today.

nbrfwhoooo: Any rich farkers out there care to comment

It's irritating, on principle if nothing else. I don't think I classify as "rich" but an extra $100/month is no problem.

I do feel bad for those it is a problem for.

Wow, this is sad. So it seems that Virginia has some of the highest gas prices in the country. It was $3.29 for the cheap stuff where you could get it. That was 2 days ago, i haven't been by the gas station since. I'm almost scared to think how much it coulkd have gone up in those 2 days.

Damn, just north in Mequon I'm still seeing $3.47. It never amazes when I hear of these idiots on TV talking about driving 60 miles to fill up just so they can save 30 cents/gallon. Do they realize that by the time they get back home, all of their savings went right out the window?

SKININK:

That gas station is in Alston, MA.
He is charging by the half gallon because his old mechanical pumps only go to $2.99 per gallon as far as charging money. He had to start charging per half gallon once the price went above $3 per gallon.

I saw the story, and cannot remember where. mighta been the Herald online

Don't be an ass.
Of all the comments you select mine to say don't be an ass? I wasn't being degrading, since I know many of these guys didn't have to drive to work before (command was at same base with barracks), and they now have to drive a very heavily congested 15-20 miles one way to the shipyard. It takes a huge bite out of anyone's budget when an unexpected expense pops up.

I had posted about people taking out loans in response to someone else, as a point that yes the price jump can make a huge difference to many people.

prices anywhere from 3.199 to 3.499 here in bethlehem, pa.

I understand why the prices have gone up, but the lines are getting nuts. gas lines causing minor traffic problems on the south side last week.

Would these lines improve with rationing? has anyone discussed gas rationing yet, or are we too selfish for that?

damnit. Drop a "ceases" somewhere in my last post. It seems to have escaped.

$2.59 in Anchorage, AK now. We've been over $2.00 for almost 2 years. It's about time the rest of you caught up.

I don't mean to pick on you, but people tend to have a selective memory about gas prices. They note the high prices, but ignore the substantial dips. Here is a chart of AVERAGE gas prices in Anchorage and the US for the past two years:

Why are there lines getting to gas stations in some areas of the country? Aren't people still consuming gasoline at roughly the same rate as last week, or the week prior? Why would there now be, all of a sudden, a lot more people trying to get into the fuel stations?

I'm glad that there are no lines here in Seattle.

All of you who said you'd move to Canada if Bush won might consider following through on your promise. I might be right behind you.

Would go in a heartbeat, but nobody north of the border from Alberta west apparently has a desire to bring mid-level mid-career geeks across the border. Six+ months of casting the resume about via the usual job board suspects, and not so much as a thanks-but-no-thanks reply. [And yes, I've had it reviewed by HR pros, don't have any blemishes, have a few shiny points, etc. etc.]

7$ pr. gal here in Denmark.

Why don't Americans pay the actual price for gas?

2005-09-04 02:34:51 PM
I've seen it around $3.20-$3.50 in Atlanta, GA (midtown), but yesterday I was visiting a friend in McDonough and near his house a station had it for $2.84!

/remember when $2.20 was "expensive"?

friggin gas stations south of austin, tx are friggin running out of super. 2 of them in the early, wee hours of the morning. went to one, got 1/2 gallon out of it (enough to make it to the next one). Got to a texaco, got 1 gallon trickling out of the pump, enough to get me 60 miles to my house and hope I find another gas station, sticking to i-35.

just super @ anyhwere between $3.10-$3.40, because they've been ordering regular like crazy.

no, i can't put regular in my bike, those bangers are a hair under 12:1, and yes you can bend and break shiat by running a high revving/high compression motor on low octane. if it was a harley i could probably run it on year-old gas from people's lawn mowers, but it's not.

People have already started stealing gasoline in the wake of Katrina, just like during the 1973 oil shock. My guess is rationing will be a last resort. Notice how there's hardly a mention of conservation, carpooling, or increased use of public transportation in this country. I believe Bush said to "be prudent" or something like that, and to not buy gas unless you have to. Nice strong message.

2005-09-04 02:38:28 PM
AppleDane: can you explain what you mean by the "actual price"? It seems to me whatever price you're paying is the actual price in that place.
