Walmart has gas in a few places, here Sam's Club has gas but you have to be a member. I paid 2.74/gal there on Monday (93 octane) and the other stations on the same road were 2.89/gal for 93.

About the 1.90/half gallon thing...there are some OLD pumps that can't go over so much per gallon, so they post the 1/2 price then double it when you go it. This is documented, it was on the news the other day.

Gnascher, I've seen a bunch of SUVs here with forsale signs on them...some of the mom and pop used car lots of FULL of them. Sorry, who is going to ante up for something that gets 14mpg? 22yo girl down from me (who will live at home until she's 50) just bought an Expedition. She wants to be able to take family and friends places...like her mom, dad and sister. Crap, my mini can hold 4 and gets above 35. I can't see chugging along at 14mpg just so you can take everyone with you once/week.

I understand gas is $6 and $7 american in Europa, but it's not the same as paying $3.50 in the U.S. I believe citizens of Europe have free or next to free health care and university among other things. We gotta pay for all that ourselves plus the damn gasoline for our cars.

2005-09-04 03:26:03 PM
Lansing, MI

Was $3.49, but Michigan capped to $2.99

I have another slash to add:

//////I understand that not everyone can conserve in this capacity.

Hell, one more.

//////Don't get me wrong, I use way more than my share of gas/diesel.

2005-09-04 03:30:03 PM
About 11 Danish kroner per liter depending on quality, that's 7 dollars per gallon.

2005-09-04 03:31:07 PM
87 UL $3.02/gal Concord, CA for my commuter car. about 30mpg.

100 LL (Avgas) $3.59/gal to fill my plane. I fly to work when I can. Even at 180mph, I still get 30-40mpg!

Diesel is also up around $3.00 (in Oregon) My dad just bought an old volkswagen rabbit diesel, he gets 50mpg though.

Jet A $3.91/gal Ouch! Airlines must be hating life. Jet A used to be less than 100LL, now they are just screwing with us.

2005-09-04 03:31:14 PM
$.99 for regular, but this was back in 1997. I got my license and first car, paid .99 for gas exactly twice, then it started rising out of control.

A pack of smokes was only $1.99 then, too -- .99 for Austins.

2005-09-04 03:32:26 PM
I believe citizens of Europe have free or next to free health care and university among other things. We gotta pay for all that ourselves plus the damn gasoline for our cars.

They pay with tax dollars. It all comes out of your wallet somehow.

Gas is fluctuating between 2.89 and 2.99 a gallon for regular unleaded here in Waco, TX.

I filled up a truck yesterday, and diesel is "only" 2.75...

eraser8: Worst part about living in Atlanta: I have to drive everywhere. Bank? Drive. Grocery store? Drive. Bar? Drive. Restaurant? Drive. Gym? Drive. Retail store? Drive. Strip club? Drive. And, I hate driving.

Don't complain. At least you have sights, shopping, bars, and fully nekkid strip clubs to which you can drive. And at least MARTA can get you to some locations. Try Indy, where *eight* potential light rail corridors spaced around the compass rose lie empty gathering weeds. We can't even forget our troubles with a good, damp back-room lap dance...

Thunder Bay, ON

About 1.25/Litre CDN.

After conversion it's $4.00 US/gallon... and that's per U.S. gallon.

Yay for living within walking distance of the University... until it gets to -30C anyways...

2005-09-04 03:37:46 PM
$3.03 at the cheap station and $3.13 at the corner of my street. I live in Santa Barbara, California, and I'm used to having the highest gas prices in the country. It's good to see someone else take our place as teh most expensive gas. I'm sure it'll turn around soon.

/The Flying Spaghetti Monster is happy to see the latest uptick in gas prices. It means there will be more pirates out there.

2005-09-04 03:37:54 PM
$3.09 - $3.19 --- I have to use silver or better so its $3.19-3.29 for me. I drive an Avalon - yes its a med to full size car but Toyota cranks 21city - 29 highway miles on it. I also check the ture pressure and have installed a K and N filter in to so I can get the top mileage out of it. -- Warrenville, Il (west burbs of chicago)

2005-09-04 03:37:59 PM
$3.39 / gal in New Haven, CT

2005-09-04 03:39:36 PM
$3 / gal here in the Bible belt. I was driving an early 70s sedan until a month ago, but it was killing me on gas (about 10 mi / gal), so I traded it for an Impreza which gets 30 mi/ gal. If gas goes over $3.75 a gallon or so, our prices are going to be right in line with most of Europe, which is the eventual goal of all this I'd think.

2005-09-04 03:39:38 PM
2.79 to 2.99 for regular as of Sunday 9/4/05 morning depending on whether or not you have gas, still some small ma and pa stations dont have any. All the major ones still do (Shell, BP, Marathon, Chevron, and Citgo)

2005-09-04 03:40:12 PM
It is $3.29/gallon for regular down the street from me, but I also saw it at $2.99/gallon for regular down the street from where I go to church.
I really want to wait till Tuesday at the latest before I fill up again. Hopefully the prices may go down by that time.
I am at just under a quarter tank now, so I am not sure if I will make it.

2005-09-04 03:41:06 PM
about 6.69USD/gal (0.96GBP/l) in basingstoke, uk.

2005-09-04 03:41:42 PM
$4.84 in Toronto, Canada.

But I ride a moped to work, so I only end up spending $6 CAD/week. Its also faster then taking a car because I can ride in the bicycle lane in heavy traffic. Oh, and I park it on the sidewalk.

2005-09-04 03:42:54 PM
$3.16 / gal. Little town in western Kansas.

ManThatHurts, where in seattle? I have been in california on business and just got back, havent even had a chance to check yet. But, in Calabasas, CA, it was 3.49/gallon. There is a station next to me on Broadway, but I am scared to check

2005-09-04 03:44:39 PM
All of this talk about gasoline and made me make up my mind, i'm going to go to the bike shop today and look at bikes. Busses have bike racks, I think i'll make use of them.

castufari I think I read somewhere that SUV sales are already falling, and used car values have dropped a lot (not NADA but what cars are actually selling for). The problem I see is that now we will have these gas guzzlers selling super cheap on the second hand market, but there is no way I can see to keep them from being resold. Junk a car in working condition? Who knows. It's more likely the person buying the car used will less be able to afford the higher gas cost, they just may see the "great" deal on the car. jmo

I wasn't in any way trying to say that the behemoths were just going to disappear ... Of course they'll go into the secondary market. Then they'll hit 150,000 miles or so ... and start needing expensive repairs. Then, the secondary owners who have spent all thier money keeping the gastank full will not thing the vehicle to be such a 'great deal', and the cars will begin making thier way to the junk yards.

Little by little they will begin to disappear, but more importantly the demand for them in the NEW CAR market will fall off. The automakers will start putting more of thier R&D money into more efficient cars rather than how to fit another DVD screen into a car with more interior space than my living room.

2.92 was the cheapest ive seen in central IL.

2005-09-04 03:54:43 PM
It's funny, there are two stations at one end of town that have always been 5-10 cents/gal higher than all the others, but ever since the day Katrina started (the first day it smacked the coast) they have been more like 50-60 cents/gal higher.

When I drive past either of those stations, I laugh at the people filling up. The next nearest station is almost a mile away, but the huge difference in price makes it worth the drive. So the people who use those stations are either lazy or stupid (or have so much money that they don't care).

2005-09-04 03:54:44 PM
$1.09/L in Edmonton Albetrta

2005-09-04 03:57:39 PM
...and the guy who runs the UAW drives a hybrid. HE said that the big 3 needed to gear up and start changing things.

2005-09-04 03:57:57 PM
lindseyp:

1.02 (British pounds per litre) =

7.15468268 U.S. dollars per US gallon

according to google. That's what I paid today at London Gateway services on the M1 for super unleaded.

Sounds about right. A freind of mind who lives near Leeds paid 6.65/gal (about 90p/liter at 1.89 dollars/pound).

Love my hybrid today!
