nbrfwhoooo:

If you were rich, would you care? If money was no object to me, I can't imagine I would care. Sure, there might be some sort of biting based on principal factor, but I can't say I much would care.

I think the only people who care are those for whom gas is a sizeable percentage of their monthly outgoings, and who consider it a necessity to live normally.

As has been noted, here in the UK we don't tend to drive 150 miles per day unless we are on company business, and in that case the company is paying for the gas.

To add to which, as I mentioned, prices here in the UK and most of Europe have risen only modestly. Partly because a large part of the US problem is refineries hence supply of refined gas, not raw oil... Partly because our gas was *already* outrageously expensive due to a fixed $/gallon tax, so even if the actual gas price doubled, the pump price would go up (and has gone up) by much less than %100

That's the joke of it. Little surprised it hasn't caught on around here like the "morans" pic.

I am still just happy I filled up the tank last saturday. Little 4 cylinder doesnt eat much. Only had to put in $5.50 worth this week and that was at $2.99/gallon. Unfortunately I have a good 300 miles of driving to do today and tomorow so I can say good bye to my last tank of $2.50/gal gas at least for a while.

In many parts of the U.S., gasoline is more expensive after conversion than it is in most parts of Canada. Why is this relevant? Because Canada has 2x-3x the taxes on gasoline than the U.S. does (depending on which state and county/parish you live in).

Check out the wholesale rates, and realize how much the oil companies are making off of you. Check out their profits last year. This has nothing to do with Katrina and nothing to do with demand. It has everything to do with another excuse for oil corporations to make $billions in profit.

All of you who said you'd move to Canada if Bush won might consider following through on your promise. I might be right behind you.

Regular Unleaded = $3.19
Premium Unleaded = $3.29
Super (10% Ethanol) = $3.09

Bismarck, North Dakota

Here in ND, ethanol production is so heavily subsidized that the Super unleaded (93 octane) is cheaper than the 85 octane Regular. And all this with the Tesoro Oil Refinery right there on the other side of the river...

$2.84 in Dalton, GA

It was $2.99 until Sonny Perdue lifted 15 cents off the gas tax. I'm glad we have a governor who doesn't see the bottom line only in profits.

Glen Burnie, MD $3.50

On Friday there was a scare in Maryland that all gas stations would close for the weekend at 4:00 PM (hilarity ensued). Gas lines well over an hour long, and a place in Dundalk (place where Cletus and Brandene live) was selling regular at $4.97 and super at $7.02.

fast_eddie2000: Going to Orlando next week. How's the gas situation in the Tifton - Valdosta area??

I'm up in Marietta at school right now, but I was talking to my folks back home in Valdosta about the gas there...I think it was 3.30 or so for mid-grade, but it has been a few days since then. I'd bank on it being around 3 bucks for 87 octane (probably went down after Gov. Perdue annoucend suspsenion of the gas tax for this month. If I hear anything more current, I'll post it.

2005-09-04 02:06:09 PM

Expensive gas,....no problem here. I just added a few more rats to the treadmill of my Hybrid car.

This seems like a case of the "all your eggs in one basket" syndrome. How or why would they concentrate so many refineries in a small geographic area. They could unload the tankers at deepwater ports and pump the crude to various inland refineries.

Last gas I purchased was $2.47 on Monday, Aug. 29th and I didn't even fill up, just got $40 worth (16 Gals.

If you're going to go to the trouble of looking up gas prices in your area, you may want to submit them to the Cheap Gas Locator while you're at it.

St. Cloud, MN: It was $2.49 here Tuesday, $2.79 Wednesday, and shot up to $3.13 Thursday. I filled both cars and then parked the minvan; we plan to carpool in the Civic for a while despite the extra time it will take. On Friday a price war started locally though, and most placed dropped back down to $2.79 this weekend-- but they are paying $3.04 wholesale, according to the local paper, so it can't last long. I think a lot of the smaller (i.e. mom & pop, or immigrant family owned) stations are probably going to go under soon.

2005-09-04 02:10:43 PM
Monmouth, OR: $2.89 to $3-something

I filled my tank in Salem, at the 76 station on Lancaster - $39 @ $2.68.
