You know, I'm from Kansas, and until this very moment I've told myself that it's ok that some people in this state are backwards, because there are worse states. Now, I can't tell myself that anymore.

Seriously, though, there's not a state in the goddamn nation I'd have expected this less from.

Way to go Utah board of education!!!!

Damn, its great to see common sense triumph. Hope it catches like a cold in Kansas.

TypographicalError, I could not agree more. If 49 states did that, I expected Utah to be the last holdout.

Oooook. So any group that's affilitated in any way, shape or form with a Christian group is obviously trying to backdoor Chrisitanity into mainstream socieity but Left wing groups fronting for socialist/communist groups are NOT trying to sneak a socialist agenda past anyone.

At what point are any communist/socialist agendas trying to undermine a legitimate science that has the support of a vast majority of scientists and scientific institutions?

"SETI is an attempt to identify intelligent design in radio signals from outer space, signals with an intelligent origin rather than a natural origin," he said. "If we can try to detect intelligent design in signals we receive from outer space, why can't we detect intelligent design in genetic codes we see in biology?"

wtf? shark, jumped.

Weaver95:
Take out the words 'Christian-centered' and put in the word 'communist'. It's EXACTLY the sort thing old Tailgunner Joe used to say about the hollywood studios.

Are you denying that this nonsense is backed by groups with explicit Christian agendas?

I'd be quite interested to hear of their inclusiveness of the cosmologies of Hindu, Shinto, Pygmy, Buddhist, and whatnot in their "curriculum".

"I think I liked the Left better when they weren't stealing old Joe McCarthy's tactics."

Yeah cause Utah is just teeming with Liberals. I hear Berkley is thinking of moving the whole town from California to Utah because they're more their type there.

Really stop and think about where your talking about next time you reach for one of your knee jerk conservative rants.

why can't we detect intelligent design in genetic codes we see in biology?"

I think this ties in with the latest ID desperation ploy - that the sequence of molecules that make up DNA are "information," and that information theory or number theory or "I'm just talking out of my ass theory" says that coded information of that level of detail cannot occur in nature.

There was a guy on NPR saying something to that effect.

You might find it interresting that many christian religions used the bible to justify Slavery and Jim Crow laws.

Because finding intelligent life would ultimately HURT the creationist theory (at least, the one offered in Genesis). Trying to use SETI as a friend in the debate to teach intelligent design is retarded.

Wow, Kansas has now made Utah look reasonable.

I'll have to tell my sister and her husband to move out of Kansas before they have kids in school. Although they're in Lawrence, so it should be better there.

I'm hoping a FSM theologian can help me with this question, is FSM poly-theistic? Can I worship ravioli, or only spaghetti? And where does Chef Boyardee fit into all of this, is he the pope, or more a Pontius Pilot figure?

Only a Sith deals in absolutes.

You're quoting a guy who tried to get away with mutilating his best friend and trying to get the best friend's kid to finish the job. But then he's still not as bad as Bush.

Why does this issue come up every week? The US has become a theocracy and turned a secular government into a theocracy within a year. What the hell happened?

Buttars insisted that all he wants is equal time in the classroom - and it doesn't have to be the science classroom.

Just a crazy idea here...

If you want your kids to learn about ID (or whatever bullcrap name creationism is being called these days), you can still send them to a private school right?

Before I get jumped on, I know not everyone can afford to send their kiddies to private school. If you can't afford it, there is a place that people go every Sunday that is relatively cheap (except that they make you feel guilty for not tithing) where your little precious can learn quite a bit about Adam and Eve, etc. They even have other nights where kids can get together and discuss the intelligent designer.

Yep, IE is right in keeping with Fundamentalist dogma... they use fundamentally dishonest arguments to sneak creationism in there.

Weaver95: So any group that's affilitated in any way, shape or form with a Christian group is obviously trying to backdoor Chrisitanity into mainstream socieity...

Ah, yes, the noble dream of introducing Christianity into "mainstream society". Will the opressed Christian ever be free to come out in the open and worship freely? Boy, that is a wonderful goal. Damn the communists for keeping Christianity out of the mainstream!

We're dealing with censorship here. If we only taught Shakespeare in English class, that wouldn't be fair.

We should syudy all aspects of English in English class. And we should study all aspects of science in science class.

I have no problem acknowledging that some people believe in faith-based explanations, but let's not confuse faith-based religion with doubt-based science.

I get it.

Why only invoke the Christian god in evolution class? if you're going to invoke him there you might as well invoke him in all the other classes too.

Calculus is too complex to happen naturally. Obviously it is guided by a higher power.

History is full of too many strange and miraculous occurrences that couldn't have happened by themselves. Obviously they are the works of God and Satan.

Physical Education is too hard for young students. They should reach out to their favorite Christian deity to fully realize their inner strength.

Farkers like to brag about their intelligent, but they obviously aren't too damn bright. He is talking about groups like International ANSWER and the like who are at the heart of the anti-war movement, but are being backed by socalist/communist organizations. Anytime anyone brings this up, the left always says "Well, just because ANSWER is being backed by those types of people doesn't mean that they are trying to introduce communism/socalism through the back door."

Oh yeah, and Sex Education.

When you fark, God helps guide the sperm into the egg because there's no way this complex event could happen on its own. Oh and don't wear a condom because it gets in God's way.
