"Strange"? That's "Amusing" - great idea, wish I had the necessary testicular fortitude and douchbaglaciousness to pull off something like that. I've often wondered about that when parking at one of those things.

You are encouraging this "Duke Sucks" nonsense well past the saturation point.

In the future, please think of the DS phrase in the same light as you view the HA-HA guy and all will go well.

Sincerely,

Everybody

Next week in court:
"Your Honor, I move for dismissal on the grounds that my client charged $5 merely for the service of parking the cars, not for their storage on private property. We intend to file suit against the car owners for failing to properly specify a legal parking location."

She only charged $5? Parking for the San Francisco Giants costs $25. Wait a minute, I think I have an idea....

I suspect this happens a lot more than people realize.

2005-09-02 06:38:46 PM
I've often wondered how often this happens.

When someone takes my money for parking... how do I know they're really the property owner (or owner's agent)?

I concur with Chastain86.

Seen this done before. Pretty common around here.

Who is Duke?

As a Marshall student, I'd say this has been going on for years. I've seen guys out selling city parking spots they claimed long before a game to the highest bidder. Every time I'm in town during a game day I'd have to park on campus. It's a nightmare to park there when it's not a game day. On game days the tailgaters cover every square inch. I guess college football, even for a smaller team is just a big step up from highschool football that everyone around here is crazy about. People that donate big bucks get "Green stickers" that lets them park in the parking garage free, and a lot of time they only let in green stickered vehicles. I've seen the garage nearly empty during some games when every other ground space is taken. It's a filthy racket they have on parking here, literally hundreds of thousands of dollars on parking fees and tickets a year.

/Never had a ticket I had to pay.
//Having a T.A. sticker got me into faculty parking sweetness.
///Except game days, even faculty are screwed for the rich sports fans.

Well, what else should we expect from West Virginia?
Let's Go

/I think Duke's first football game tomorrow against East Carolina U should determine whether or not Duke Sucks.
//Duke Sucks.

This happens all the time. In Chicago, I was with some co-workers going to the Cubs game. We were late and anxious to get into the Ivy-covered hallowed ground of Wrigley. One of us spotted a man waving cars into the alley under the El tracks and taking twenty a piece to park in a backyard. Nothing strange there - I've parked right on front lawns rented by the landlord.

Anyway, I thought that something was hinky about the dude but, I was in a big ass hurry to get into the game. You can guess the rest. We come out and the car is gone. The owner of the property had them towed. It took quite a few more bucks to get the car out of the stir. I didn't care. I just sat in Murphy's Bleacher Bar waiting to get picked up after they got the car back.

Good times, good times.

I graduated from Marshall last year. Parking was always horrible around campus (and the stadium). So one year they tear up a bunch of parking lots. Two of the lots were turned into a new science building and a dorm, the third was made into a parking garage.

The parking garage was suppose to be six stories high and more than make up for all the lost spaces. However, they changed plans and only made it three stories high. Now there are two-hundred less spaces than before.

You could never find a space, even though you shelled out 93 bucks for a semester parking pass.

I hate Dan Angel.

This kind of shiat happens all the time. A complete non-story.

Oklahoma State Univ. President is a farking moron for tearing down a 14-floor dorm and 200-spot parking lot for a cluster of 5-floor 'suites'.

Disclaimer reminded me, so its not totally off-topic :p

This has been going on in Eugene for years and not just for University of Oregon football games at Autzen Stadium. Every year when the county fair is going on, people who live in the vicinity of the fairgrounds have problems with illegal parking. The fair goers park in other peoples' driveway, park so they block the entry to the driveways, park on peoples' lawns, etc. You name it, they have done it. The thing is, parking is free at the fair plus there are shuttle buses for only 25 cents running to the fairgrounds every 15 minutes. The parking is free at Autzen stadium too and there are shuttle buses for all the home games.

Detroit parking for Tigers games used to be the same way.. You'd pull into the lot, see the (handwritten) $5 sign, and tell the guy that if he didn't fark off and not touch your car while you ran down the block to the machine shop, your next stop was gonna be the corner bar to collect one of the cops.

If he acted pissy about it, you parked your car, and then extracted the cop from his barstool so he was safely in the back of a cop car before he had time to cut your valvestems.

/they dun care if you get away with it, just so long as the rubes pay
//just gotta show them you've got bigger balls than they do

Chastain86: I concur - and fark that "Ha-ha" guy too.

I went to Marshall about 18 years ago. It was pretty cool then cause parking was easy and no boneheads trying to make a quick buck.

The coolest part was when we parked on the sidewalk (near The projects only one street in Huntington) got a ticket and put it on some old dudes car. Hehehe they paid it w/o looking at it.

Oh, Duke sucks... but do they spit???

I love this. We actually studied a case like this for our Property class in law school, only it was in Oklahoma. Great stuff, and the guy who's alleged to have done this is in for some serious fines if found guilty. Gotta love it.

Personally, I too have seen this happen...and Duke sucks.

HEHE.

Flew from Ohio to Cali for some R&R about 15 years ago. me and a frent went to Huntington Beach to watch the OP Pro surf contest... well actually to hang out on the beach and watch the babes.... Anyway, we were looking for a place to park and found a nice fenced construction area with the gate open and a "Parking $5" sign. We paid the guy working the gate and parked along with about 200 other cars, left and had fun. When we called it a day and went back and joined about 50 other peple milling around the locked gate. Finally waved down a cop who eventually got things figured out and opened the gate.

No harm for us in the long run, it just took a little extra time to get the car back. I kind of wonder what happened to the scammer. I figure he is either doing time or being a movie mogal.

I remember at the Univerity of Texas, they issued something like 17 student parking permits for every available student parking spot.

yeah gives me an idea, just outside of right field parking... just follow this promenade... do it for about 20/30 cars, then run

Actually, I believe this is stardard operation procedure for all college campuses. Also towing/booting anyone and everyone that is even CLOSE to parking illegally.

My brother was ticketed for parking in the wrong zone in the middle of winter break without another car in sight. Just this last weekend it took me 5 tries before I was able to park both reasonably close AND LEGALLY when I crashed at my sister's place.
