Since when was the National Weather Service a British organization?

I'm watching everything going on at the Centre in my own private theatre. Afterwards, I'm going to watch the Nationals get rapred by the Braves.

Season's only half-way over. Consider Katrina the All-Star break, or something.

Body count is piling up. Very sad.

"Did you hear that part of the Superdome roof blew off?"

No Mayfield, I missed it the first 87 times they mentioned it on the news.

My brother works in journalism and had a REALLY long night of work during katrina. We could barely even call him.

Chuckle. The meteorologists get 8 hour shifts so they don't get tuckered out, but when I was a medical resident I had to do thirty sixes all the time. Pussies.

I HATE THE NAME KATRINA! Every white trash teen pregnancy ends up with a new little Katrina in the world. The name sucks. It is a stripper name and it sucks.

Who knew that the National Hurricaine Centre was housed in the Canadian Consulate in Miami? I guess it never hurts to be a cautious Canadian, eh?

I'm 1500 miles away and my pot plants love it.
Thanks Jesus and Katrina.

"Tell someone to come get me please. I want to live," resident Chris Robinson told The Associated Press via cell phone from his home east of downtown.

If you wanted to live asshat, then why the fark are you still AT GROUND ZERO WHEN YOU HAD DAYS OF WARNING!

What a bunch of over-hyped baloney. I was expecting some real action. It was like God was finally planning on taking care of the vermin that infest New Orleans.

My Hurricane Katrina Jokes

I heard the city was 80% evacuated before the hurricane.
So I guess Detroit is already prepared.

500,000 people from Lousiana to the Florida panhandle are without power. But how many had it to begin with?

Tip your waitresses! Try the veal, I'll be here all week.

Submitter has a self-centred and coloured notion of himself and favours stupour over valour, when it comes to honour.

I'm Commonwealth too btw; I'm not mocking, instead rallying round the dude with an ugly old bag's silhoutette on our coins. I'm from waaaaay south dude.

I know this might be unpopular, but hell...the National Weather Service did a great job, because if so many people hadn't been evacuated there would have been many more casualties. I'm so glad that they overestimated things. Now that the actual damage is done and the real work of recovery will start soon, who of you are willing to help? It's not the tsunami in a distant country, these are our own American people (and I admit I'm a liberal originally from back East).

It might seem hyped up to some of you... but here where hurricanes hit at least once a year, it's a big deal. I'm in NC and fortunately, Katrina is bypassing us :) But we haven't got our hit yet, not looking forward to it.

The real issue is getting the state of Louisiana to come up with a uniform coastal restoration plan. A big reason New Orleans was spared the wrath of Katrina (and Ivan last year) was the natural land buffer that seperates the city from the GUlf. THis buffer is eroding over time for many, many, many reasons and needs to be restored. In 2001 Louisiana sent the Breaux Act up to Congress asking for $11 billion to restore and maintain Southern Louisiana's coastline in a 30 year project. They were only approved for $1 billion because the plan was flawed and didn't take into account levee programs and marshland restoration programs occurring in the region. It's time for Louisiana to end the buerocracy and bring these programs together under a focused, uniform plan that will warrant more funding. Oh, and when you do ask Congress for money, try not to play up the 'save our environment / culture / heritage / community' angle. Let's be real: a republican government doesn't give a crap about that, especially in a time of war. Louisiana needs to emphasize that 1/4 of all U.S. oil is imported through Southern Louisiana. It's worth spending the money to protect the drilling and pipeline infrastructure that supplies us with all that oil...that's the argument that will appeal most to Republican congressman when it's time to ask for money for coastal restoration.

/IMHO, of course.

Saying New Orleans was spared is akin to being decapitated and saying "Well the head was spared!" The CBD and French Quarter was spared, and there's a lot more to NOLA and southeastern LA than that.

Biggie Thang: Your first pic was cool, 'cuz FL looks to me like a big-ass swimmin' Gator about to chomp Cuba. If it would then fling UM off its nose, then FSU off its tail, I would have a great beginning to football season.
