Just a frickin' witch hunt. Broadcasters are just ATM's to the FCC now.

2005-08-25 06:06:42 PM
Ahh, the Orwellian Theocracy is upon us. People really really need to get over themselves.

2005-08-25 06:20:27 PM
Did Stern advocate the assassination of any world leaders on the show?

No? Oh.

2005-08-25 06:21:13 PM
I submitted this with a $250,000 fine.

2005-08-25 06:21:52 PM
I'm not a fan but to my knowledge he didn't violate any FCC rules. Some guy just found the show offensive because women were golfing with dildo's on their head. Umm, you sorta can't see that through the radio and no curse words were used.

I submitted this with gratuitous poop talk from Oprah.

2005-08-25 06:23:35 PM
Why the comparison with Pat Robertson?

Oh. I get it. Both has-beens.

Nevermind.

2005-08-25 06:24:04 PM
knuckleball: Did Stern advocate the assassination of any world leaders on the show?

No? Oh.

Proposing murder is okay. But anything sexual? That's just wrong.

Won't someone Pleeeeease think of the children?!

Christ4549

I saw that one on E!, it was pretty funny. Maybe Howard Stern should just say he was misquoted by the AP, then he'll get off OK.

2005-08-25 06:24:40 PM
The early 90s called. They want their "shock jock" back.

Ho hum. Whatever.

2005-08-25 06:25:16 PM
look at your radio, see that button that says tune, press it when you don't like the content. Perhaps he is old school and is still looking for the knob to change the channel.

2005-08-25 06:25:35 PM
ah well. the anti-war DJs never stood a chance anyway in this climate. Looks like Stern was right.

2005-08-25 06:26:28 PM
However, if Stern did an entire show in which he discussed people being shot and killed, would the FCC mind?

I keep forgetting one of the unwritten rules of our world today: Showing anything sexual is bad. Showing violence and destruction is good.

Farked up priorities.

2005-08-25 06:26:41 PM
They're only doing it for the children.
Children are our most vulnerable members of society.
You want to protect the children, don't you?

Wasn't John Mainelli (the author of the piece) once Stern's program manager at WABC? Stern had some hideous nickname for him, Pig Virus or something....

2005-08-25 06:29:43 PM
Another good reason to abolish the FCC.

/Stern sucks, too, but at least he isn't Brent Bozell's biatch.

jbmmwest:

As Carlin said, some people are just uncomfortable with anything with knobs on it.

I want Stern, just to prove a point, to have an entire show in which he discusses all kinds of violent behavior, and see if the FCC has the same kind of outrage.

FOXNews: We don't report on what's happening, we just repeat the speculations of anyone with a name big enough to get your attention.

Article is lame... not real news... not surprised.

2005-08-25 06:30:48 PM
No, actually, I don't want to protect the children. I could not care less about the children. I have none of my own, through conscious choice, because I think taking care of them would be a pain in the ass that I have no interest in dealing with. It's up to the individual parents to take care of the children they have, and decide what they should/should not listen to. My mother did a fine job keeping things away from me [and my sisters] when we were young. As an adult, I value my freedom to watch/listen to what I want, and simply do not care about anybody else's out-of-control kid.

2005-08-25 06:30:54 PM
won't they just leave this poor man alone? Hasn't he suffered enough already?

2005-08-25 06:31:36 PM
but Pat Farkin' Robertson can endorse murder, putting Americans all over the globe in danger from fundies and extremists.

the FCC is a joke.

I love listening to Howard Stern cry about all of his troubles and just think: Once he's on XM you can PAY to hear them!

mattejob: the FCC is a joke.

No, you see, a joke makes you laugh, not "contemplate how to get jihadists to fly a plane into it."

2005-08-25 06:36:38 PM
C'mon... the FCC is really making a bad play. How better to make Stern go away than to ignore him. Every single story about stern has the obligatory

".... Stern, who's scheduled to debut on bleep-free Sirius Satellite Radio next year"

It may be my tinfoil hat slipping - but I think a good move on the part of the guys at the FCC is to buy some big stock in Sirius. Daily press for your boy!

2005-08-25 06:37:07 PM
The way I understand it, broadcast radio and broadcast television are regulated by the FCC, and satellite isn't because it's subscription-based--you don't want to hear it, you don't have to buy it. So why is there so much regulation on cable television? Are they being FCC'd for some reason? Or just self-regulating...

My 12 year old daughter heard the broad cast and now she wants to be a porn star with sex toy who sings amazing grace.

Damn you Howard Stern!

2005-08-25 06:54:55 PM
I do not support the witch hunt against Howard Stern and believe that he is often held to a tougher standard than other "shock jocks", singled out as an example time and time again, often for inane reasons. The FCC needs to go the hell away. Now.

That said, Howard Stern is annoying. Has there ever been a more overrated personality in the history of radio? The man may have had talent once; he may have been good listening at one time; but these days hes a whining, unfunny, grumbling, crybaby, repetitive hack.

Whenever I flip over to the station that airs Stern, one of a small handful of things are invariably happening. 1) Stern is grumbling about how the world is out to get him and how he is the most persecuted man on the planet, 2) Stern is griping about how some other show stole his bit and how he is the most innovative man in radio history and without him radio would be a wasteland, or 3) Stern is doing his usual oh honey take your clothes off, oh what a nice ass shtick.

Its banal beyond belief.

The man whines incessantly. Day after day after day. Over and over about how his right to say cock on the radio has been taken away. On several occasions he has aired clips from other shows, complaining that if he did the same other shows do he would get in trouble but totally ignoring the context of what those shows were doing. For instance, he was recently airing something from Oprah or Dr. Phil or something, and Oprah or whoever was talking about stool. Poop. She was discussing it with a doctor in regard to health-related issues. And Stern cried that when he talks about poop he gets in trouble. OH, OPRAH CAN TALK ABOUT POOP BUT NOT ME!!! Because as we well know, Stern often has medically relevant discussions.

Or hell biatch about people stealing his bits. Lenos man on the street stuff, where he asks easy questions and makes fun of the people who dont answer right? According to Stern, he invented that. Prank phone calls? Stern is the great pioneer. Humiliating women on radio? Howard Stern is the only one permitted to do that nonsense; he is the first man ever to treat a woman like shiat.

Fark you, Howard Stern.

All that being said, it's time for the FCC to curl up into a ball and die. hard. Because I might be saying fark Howard Stern, but fark the FCC harder.

i hear ya, orrinbloquy....it just makes me go "sigh....pass the gin"

i have this CD titled "Sound Bites from the Counter Culture" (Atlantic, 1990) where Eugene McCarthy rips the FCC a new hole in his rant "The Big Three"...its interesting to hear a negative perspective from way way way before all the recent FCC draconian policies of the last few years. this shiat from the FCC isn't exactly new.

Self-regulating. Actually, kept in line by sponsors.

FCC giving Howard Stern a hard time?

Shouldn't the obvious tag trump the weird?

Jawbreaker
I love listening to Howard Stern cry about all of his troubles and just think: Once he's on XM you can PAY to hear them!

Get it right, dammit:

A couple of things people may find difficult to believe:
He stopped talking about Bush 2 days after the election
He stopped talking about the FCC after announcing his satellite deal.

While spanking strippers with fish is what he's most well-known for, it isn't the entire show.

2005-08-25 07:06:20 PM
Stern rules! All these people who criticize probably have never listened to him. He's funnier than hell.

2005-08-25 07:06:48 PM
Wow - 50 posts and still no pompous mentions of Opie & Anthony being so much better than Stern? Impressive.

2005-08-25 07:07:35 PM
I haaaaate Howard Stern. It's not cool to exploit stupid people, retarded people, sluts, crack whores, and helpless people. Even though they're stupid enough to do it, that doesn't make it right.
