Speaking as a panhandle Floridian, I hope how soon the government passes a law to stop these darn things. Maybe we need to get a ballot initiative going or something.

2005-08-23 06:32:44 PM
Golf clap, submitter. But you should have capitalized "Waves".

2005-08-24 12:43:29 AM
Do I get a "With a Better Headline" credit for that?

2005-08-24 01:02:10 AM
Smash hit?!?! What is it?

Excellent headline, submitter.

Katrina and the Waves Smash Hit...

............oxymoron?

2005-08-24 04:50:33 AM
"...with sustained wind down to 30 mph. It is expected to continue rapidly weakening."

Such is the fate of so many one hit wonders.

I'd say a windy death is still more appealing than listening to Katrina and the Waves.

So if I show up here in two weeks and tell everybody to "do the wave," that would be insensitive, right?

You jackasses in Florida -- move to Georgia. Nobody ever dies from hurricanes in Georgia, it has fewer old people, and it doesn't look like a Penisthmus. I mean Penisinsula. I mean a cock.

2005-08-24 06:06:20 AM
Well...at least we know it will only hit once.

I hate to burst the one-hit wonder bubble, but...

1. Walking On Sunshine (1985) #9
2. Do You Want Crying (1985) #37
3. That's The Way (1989) #16

Georgia may be safer, but we don't want our IQ to drop by 20 MORE points.

I kid i kid...

It looks like I won't be walking on sunshine in Ft. Lauderdale this weekend.

It's far better to make one excellent song than to spend decades making garbage.

Also, Katrina was mucho fappity fap fuel in her day.

My morning contribution to "I Love the 80s"...

I remember when "Walking On Sunshine" came out and seeing the video for the song on MTV. I also remember thinking at the time I had some sunshine for Katrina, or perhaps a large sausage link...in Fark parlance, I'd have hit it.

At any rate, she looked and sounded to be a bit of a Joan Jett knockoff, only less edgy and with a bit more meat on her. You could hear WOS in dance bars (no one went to a "Disco" after 1980), and for a time Top 40 radio played it to death. I liked that sort of Rock at the time, so I didn't mind so much. These days it gets featured in commericals from time to time, which is ok, not the kind of song that you attach memories to that would be tainted if someone were shoving a shampoo bottle at a camera while it played.

As to the other songs mentioned above, I'd have to hear them to remember them, the titles don't exactly tangle any bells.

Oooh...scary. With a storm that big, people might have to pick up some twigs out of their yard.

Jeeeeeeezusssssssss I wont be able to get that vile song out of my head for another decade

The 3. one I have no idea, but Do You Want Crying? got loads of play. One of the Waves actually wrote Going Down To Liverpool even if it was a bigger hit for the Bangles

//Would rather have hit Susanna Hoffs

Asteroth and Deathcow

I cried like a baby.

I don't like Walking on Sunshine, but they had some earlier, I believe unreleased material, and that was good. Sadly, nobody will ever know them past WOS.

As I say, I'd probably remember it once I heard a bit of it. I listen to a lot of web radio and from time to time stumble across an 80s station that plays a tune that I've not heard in 20 years. Scary, but I usually remember not only the chorus, but a lot of the words.

//Would rather have hit Susanna Hoffs

Well that goes without saying. I'd still hit that. For that matter Belinda Carlisle was very hittable and still is. Given a chance to hop into the time machine and hit just one though, knowing now that Joanie pitches and catches for the other team, I'd probably go to the next one on the list of the old Runaways and do Lita Ford. Yummm.

What about Maniac House?

That one had brief fame with the original Iron Eagle movie soundtrack.

I never knew she was one of the Runaways- I just assumed she was pre-fab HairMetal Queen

From what I've heard from a relative in West Palm Beach, the realestate market is booming. He has his house for sale for over double of what he purchased it for about four years ago. Seems that the carpenters are moving to Florida and buying houses because there is always carpentry work required there.

Can anyone else confirm this?

So, who's up for a Fort Lauderdale Farking Hurricane Party this weekend? Seminole Hard Rock Casino again? Nothing like drinking beer and gambling to replace the fun of hanging the hurricane shutters.

orange soup

Let me know when hurricane Nena is approaching.

Me too, until my prick brother pointed out the pits.
