Fans at several Canadian hockey arenas booed the US anthem at the beginning of last year's NHL playoffs.

2002-04-22 04:47:55 PM
WHY IS EVERYONE RIPPING DETROIT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

THERE WASN'T A SINGLE DETROITER IN THAT DAMN ARENA!!!!!!

They play in Auburn Hills, the most stuck-upest suburb you have ever visted.....There were more people from Bloomfield, Troy, Warren, Utica, Royal Oak, Flint, Ann Arbor, Livonia (translation, not from the city, rich white folk). The Palace is a good hour from Jefferson and Woodward.

As somebody once said, nobody ever went broke from overestimating the bad taste of Americans!

2002-04-22 05:28:40 PM
Blah blah blah, whine whine whine.

Nothing wrong with Canada.

...

Well. Except their government.

a land where people have real money, not monopoly money that gets less valuable every
day

In 1977, one Canadian dollar bought $1.07 USD*.

The wheel shall come around again when you run out of water and trees and whatever else you piss up the wall.

* that means the Canadian dollar was worth more, in case you missed it

It's not Canada's fault the Red Wings are old and over-rated. ;)

I know you were joking, but am I the only one who saw the game last night? Hasek actually stepped up.

As far as Detroit goes, I agree 100% with Pepperjack. It's a nasty, filthy city.
The sad part is, most of my friends in Detroit have never traveled, and therefore think that all cities are that way.

*sigh*
They couldn't be more wrong.

you hate us but you love the
hell out of our money.

The way an abused whore hates men.

They booed the US anthem at the Canucks game last nite, News flash...some sports fans are ignorant assholes no matter what country they're from, move along folks.

2002-04-22 05:49:22 PM
I knew a guy from Detroit who traveled once......He went to Gary Indiana.

they booed the US anthem at the Canucks game last nite, News flash

Oh of course, that makes it all right.

However, no Canadian jets dropped bombs on your soldiers just five days ago.

Asshole.

2002-04-22 06:03:02 PM
They probably booed the anthem at the Canuck game because they played it right after the moment of silence for the Canadian soldiers who were killed by Americans....

2002-04-22 06:11:42 PM
I would like to apologize to our northern neighbors
with a glorious rendition of "O Canada"

O Canada! Our home and native land!
True patriot love in hmm hmmm hmm hmmmmmm

With glowing hearts we zumm zee zee zoop

The True Sumthin, sumthin, sumthin

Remember when America was a civilized country?

I sorta do, when I was young.
Perhaps I was just naive.

2002-04-22 06:13:46 PM
As a true OSU fan, I won't even acknowledge M!ch!gan as a real state. Its just somewhere to stockpile all of America's white trash until we can find an incinerator big enough to burn it all. There is one diamond and that's the Joe Louis Arena, the Red Wings and most of all Scotty farking Bowman.

2002-04-22 06:19:10 PM
Uh, this took place 40 miles from Detroit and it was filled by middle class white suburbanites that were booing the team, not the flag.
But I do agree that Detroit is a festering stinkhole that is just waiting for a nuke. Thank you.

2002-04-22 06:26:09 PM
To set this straight, i was actually there, it wasn't that dramatic as articles make it out to be, yes people were booing, however a lot of it was carry over from when they mentioned the word "Toronto". And also, not that it makes it any more right, but Canuck fans bood the USA national anthem in Vancouver last night.

2002-04-22 06:35:04 PM
I watched the Wings game that night, and the darn Canadian fans were booing the Star Spangled Banner. Even if they were booing it because it was just after the moment of silence does not make it right.

I personally am offended by you Canadians booing my national anthem. I think I'll not like you for a few days, then go on ignoring Canada as usual.

And the Wings are going to RULE Vancouver. Keep watching...

2002-04-22 06:37:18 PM
Stupid, arrogant Americans strike again. We've come to expect this.

2002-04-22 06:44:22 PM
Let them boo. At least when the raptors head back to Canada their houses aren't on fire. I SWEAR i saw houses on fire along the interstate the last time i went past Detroit. Dirtiest City Ever.

2002-04-22 07:02:47 PM
Who cares if the Wings beat the Canucks...all their best players are European and Canadian anyways..

2002-04-22 07:14:01 PM
Any city that is not only responsible for Eminem and Kid Rock but also Insane Clown Posse must totally suck. If I lived in Detroit I would hire someone to follow me around and boo at me.

2002-04-22 07:42:31 PM
Nuge dude nuge!!!

'tards.

2002-04-22 07:44:49 PM
I met a hot Canadian this year (my roommate has dibs on her, though). She's from Canada, of Chinese descent, and is one of the finest opera singers I've met in my life. You have my respect, Canada. :-)

2002-04-22 07:54:59 PM
Hey, U.S. boos the Canadians, and the Canadians boos the U.S. (according from some of you folks). Sooo, who's gonna be the first to stop booing? Well, since I somewhat feel that Americans are more likely to boo an anthem/flag, I say we stop doing that as a considerate apology to the Canadians. Maybe then will they stop doing the same. Sorry if I'm missing the point here or anything like that.

2002-04-22 08:25:38 PM
Forget if that happened to the US . . . if it happened to any other nation in the world but Canada, we have something called "pushoveritis". From having our flag used as a floormat in an Olympics locker room, to having four of our soldiers accidentally (but preventable) killed fighting another country's war to having Russians and the French conspire against us during Olympic figure skating to Celine Dion making a "comeback" to having an inept Prime Minister who just recently came back from Africa (showing them a great example of how Western Civilization works when we gave them little Canadian flags to wave for the cameras but asked for them back when they were off) to run on sentences to having the Bare Naked Ladies be shown as examples as Canadians to the world to Tom Green having only one ball.

And you wonder why we like our beer strong>

2002-04-22 08:32:09 PM
I say we put a stop to this.....no longer is my pasty bum going to listen to a bunch of Canadians talk smack about my country and my fair city of Detroit. I propose a call to arms. I think we can take windsor by midnight.

2002-04-22 09:41:00 PM
Americans -- first they bomb our soldiers, then they diss our anthem. Well, that's progress....

2002-04-22 10:18:59 PM
gimme a god damn break folks. this 'booing at the anthem' shiat is not a state-of-the-nations or anything. i'll bet most of us here wouldn't even have heard about this if it hadn't been on fark (although, i've been studying for exams too much to watch the news). i think americans and canadians should just all get along. i think if it were two american teams, and there was some sort of anthem that each TEAM had, then one side would boo the other. same goes for canadians. such is sports, yo.

2002-04-22 10:26:36 PM
I happen to think that our neighbors in Canada are pretty cool. THE BEST FRESHWATER FISHING IN THE WORLD !!!
I'd rather live next to Canada instead of Iraq or some other fugged up country.
Plus you ever smoke some of these from B.C. ?

ALMOST as good as the White Widow.

2002-04-22 11:10:29 PM
I like the fact that the canadian flag in the pic above is held to the pole with duct tape.

Canucks are gonna kick detroits ass on tuesday.

2002-04-22 11:12:46 PM
Looks Green to me!

2002-04-22 11:13:53 PM
They had best learn to fear us, as the rest of the country does.

2002-04-22 11:24:36 PM
Every other country in the world has multi coloured money.
Every other country. All of 'em.
Only the US has it all one sickly colour.
Whay are Americans so universally loathed?
It's pretty goddamned obvious.

2002-04-22 11:48:37 PM
Getting tired of this stuff. Our two countries have been friends for a little bit more than a while now. There is a HUGE diff between the friendly fire incident and a bunch of sports fans having fun. To even link these two incidents, on any level is stupid.

Yes, bad taste is involved, but get over it.

Randy

Dear Canada:

Please ignore them, they just missed the turn to the monster truck rally.

2002-04-23 12:10:38 AM
Scrotar: The monster truck rally, WWF & NASCAR are unfortunately alive and well here too. It's unfortunate, but it's the merging of our cultures through TV, the internet, radio, etc.

2002-04-23 12:24:53 AM
54-40 or fight?

2002-04-23 01:26:55 AM
$10 says they were Quebecers at the game...and I'm wagering $10 AMERICAN...ooooh....

2002-04-23 01:31:07 AM
And does this mean that the Americans have never been privy to watching Gordie Johnson play a screaming rendition of the Canadian national anthem live? Shame shame...

2002-04-23 05:50:49 AM
I don't know, but it seems to me that this over-blown patriotism in the States is managing to alienate just about every country in the world.

Mexico, Latin America, Europe, and Korea have all been offended at least once during the Bush administration. To say nothing of whatever support we had in the Middle East.

When this antagonism turns into a boycott of American products perhaps Americans will learn to have a little respect for the cultures and civilizations of others. That is, if there are any jobs left.

It's going to tuff for America to actually go it alone.

2002-04-23 08:29:46 AM
Newsflash:

No actual Canadians play on the roster of the Raptors. Hopefully Steve Yzerman is proud to put on a Red Wings jersey right now.

2002-04-23 11:06:03 AM
Detroit fans are quickly cathching up with Philly fans!

2002-04-23 05:49:24 PM
hey f-you, you suck! Just kidding - don't get so upset about it, just some idiots at a bball game, surely you have something better to do than defend your countries honor on Fark.com

2002-04-23 06:27:21 PM
Nice link on the topic:

http://espn.go.com/columns/kreidler/1372839.html

Linking all Michiganders and Detroiters together by this one incident is the same thing as booing any national anthem. It's generalizing, and it's dumb.
