people suck.

2002-04-22 02:36:14 PM
I blame society.

No, i blame the watery, expensive beer served at basketball games.

the boo birds must have been drinking coors light. pure poisen.

2002-04-22 02:36:46 PM
I wonder if these are the same people who sew Canadian flags on their backpacks when they travel overseas..?

I mean they do say imitation is the finest form of flattery.

2002-04-22 02:37:04 PM
As a red-blooded american, I would like to take it upon my self to apologize to all canadians for our dumbshiat basketball fans booing your national anthem...instead of celine dion, and those damn expos.....

2002-04-22 02:38:27 PM
I was at a Cleveland Indians baseball game and the Indians were down and had the beginnings of a rally going.. The crowd started chanting "U-S-A, U-S-A..."

thing was.. they were playing the MINNESOTA TWINS.. last i checked, minnesota was still part of the USA.. dumbasses..

2002-04-22 02:38:37 PM
This is being totally exaggerated. Yeah, there were some boos when the anthem was announced and the singer started. They quickly died away. I for one, as an American and a Detroiter, sang along with O Canada. Too bad the canadians sitting next to me didnt have as much respect. they were spouting predictable anti-American crap until the Pistons punked their Raptors so bad they had to leave.

by the way, all of you still spouting the "Detroit's a shiathole" cliché, fark all of you. we dont need you and we dont give a shiat what you think. go suck a fatty.

2002-04-22 02:40:58 PM
I seem to remember Vancouver fans booing the US anthem many times. There were some last night.
But, Detroit is, and will always be, the biggest shiithole in America.

How else can you explain why no one really lives in Detroit?

2002-04-22 02:41:44 PM
Thank you Slayerswine for being an American farker with a sense of respect.

I have been to plenty of sports events in both the US and Canada and I have NEVER heard anyone boo an anthem before. It's just plain rude and disrespectful.

Hagbard23, you are a liar. Name the game that you went to where Toronto fans booed the American anthem. Even most Americans have enough respect to not boo the national anthem of another country. Unless of course you are from the cities of Detroit, Philadelphia or Buffalo. They are the collective Armpits of America.

2002-04-22 02:41:47 PM
Rmdw ROLF!! Love that movie!

As a Canadian, I can emphatically state:

"Meh."

Really, so a couple thousand people who were caught up in a sports game boo'ed the opposing team's national anthem? Oh hell, this must mean they want to kill us all and rape our women. This must be a powerful anti-Canadian message, obviously echoed by all of the United States of America, completely supported by their recent "accidental" bombing of our soldiers in Afghanistan. I mean, obviously. It's a conspiracy.

Please. It's an isolated incident in specific - even understandable - circumstances. Yes, yes, it's unfortunate Bush didn't come right out and publicly apologise over the incident in Afghanistan. In fact, its shameful. It lowered my (already low) opinion of him.

But not of all Americans. That incident doesn't mean all Americans wish to bomb Canadians, or even that the pilot in question did. And the incident at the basketball arena doesn't mean all Americans are boorish.

So move along, people. There's nothing to see here.

2002-04-22 02:41:52 PM
They weren't booing...they were saying "BOO-URNS"

I was saying "Boo-urns"

2002-04-22 02:42:04 PM
Schmack,

I can only find long thin ones in my neighborhood...Will those do instead of a fatty?

Jackass....

2002-04-22 02:42:53 PM
Schmack - Excellent point..

Excellent point..

Excellent point..

:o

2002-04-22 02:44:53 PM
liar, huh spacemoose? bite me. it's well documented that Canadian hockey fans, bitter because their teams went to a land where people have real money, not monopoly money that gets less valuable every day and has the queen of some other country on it, boo the Star Spangled Banner. dont try to wiggle out of it.

2002-04-22 02:45:25 PM
Gee, a bunch of sports fan did something stupid, there's a newsflash! Gosh, never would've expected that.

2002-04-22 02:47:19 PM
I was saying "Boo-urns," too.

2002-04-22 02:48:14 PM
RedRocket: Nope, Minnesota and Wisconsin ceeded to Canada, don'tcha know eh?

As for the whole thing, like it has been said before; Detroit is more like "Asshole City" -- fark "Hockey Town"; they're losing to the Canucks for Christ's sake! They're an 8th seed... but what you need to do is take a choice weapon (no put away the toque) and smack 'em. ;-)

2002-04-22 02:48:48 PM
The majority of people who go to Basketball games rarely pay attention to politics unless Jesse Jackson is telling them what to think.

2002-04-22 02:48:48 PM
Hey Spacemoose you wanna read everyone else saying the same damn thing I did. You wanna apologize to me directly? You wanna just hunker down and kiss my ass? Yeah i'm from Detroit, Yeah I think it was lame what they did. I don't pay attention to basketball, and I have never heard a hockey crowd boo the Canadian anthem...but I do know it was big news in Detroit in February when Toronto Raptor fans booed our anthem....suck a nut you tosser.

2002-04-22 02:49:21 PM
Wow, yet another display of American class. And then they wonder why they are hated....

Oh well, it was the sports crowd...the new opiate of the masses.

2002-04-22 02:49:47 PM
I'm as patriotic as the next American, but I think O Canada is a better anthem than ours. You can sing theirs a helluva lot easier than ours and it just sounds better.

2002-04-22 02:50:39 PM
SpaceMoose, You are a total fool

The fact that Canadian hockey fans boo the US anthem is well known and documented. But that doesn't excuse what the Detroit fans did (and stop dissing Detroit over this, like some father 4 who lives near Cass and works his ass off downtown has any the money or desire to schlep his way to Auburn Hills for a basket ball game, he has children to feed). We as the world leader HAVE TO PUT UP with this stuff and we cannot pay them back. It is like when my little brother used to hit and jump on me, I couln't hit him back because 1.) He is a lot smaller 2.) It isn't what big brothers do. As the worlds big brother, we have to put up with the biting a hair pulling and just have to take it.

2002-04-22 02:50:58 PM
Schmack, If we have "monopoly" money? how come you can't get near the Windsor Casino or the decent strip clubs, thanks to all the lard as Americans clogging up the streets?

2002-04-22 02:51:38 PM
Response for comment way up there:

Its not my fault it triple posted.

I agree with you on this hole thing being exagerated!

This is where we part company.
by the way, all of you still spouting the "Detroit's a shiathole" cliché, fark all of you. we dont need you and we dont give a shiat what you think. go suck a fatty.

Having stayed in Detroit for a while I have to say that its a peice of crap from 21 mile road on down and the malls are packed with fat ugly women that wear tights. Miles and miles of Meijers, Krogers stores, every single store was in a strip mall.

2002-04-22 02:56:05 PM
DariusMDeV - Your little brother beats you up? Ouch..

BTW - What exactly do you mean by "World Leader"? and who proclaimed this to you?..and why didn't the rest of us get this new world leader memo??

2002-04-22 02:56:33 PM
Been to a few hockey games, but I was in the sky box with an open bar and lots of cute chicks so I never watched the game. Don't really like it that much anyway.

StopDrop
You just made my point......I just have to take it.

2002-04-22 03:01:21 PM
Oh and StopDrop....You beat up your little brother???? Wow, classy.

I guess no one recognizes Shame on Detroit!

Apparently I'm wrong.

I guess the moral of the story is: Sports fans everywhere can be classless losers.

Hello boys and girls.

The word for today is jingoism.

Can you say jingoism?

...Good I knew that you could.

2002-04-22 03:05:06 PM
I like to make fun of Canada as much as anyone, but this shiat embarasses me. It's one thing to make snide remarks on Fark, but to BOO someone's national anthem is just asinine.

You know damn well these are the same folks who'd have their guns blazin if someone did the same to the US national anthem.

2002-04-22 03:12:16 PM
Scarneck....

Read the thread before posting.

It has alread been entered into evidence that it has happened to the USA anthem and no one blazed a single gun. Pay attention.

2002-04-22 03:12:33 PM
Hey CanuckGuy, your streets are filled with all of our 19 and 20 year olds....and yes all your Itchy and Scratchy money sits in our drawers until the next trip over the border/toll booth to Windsor.

2002-04-22 03:18:43 PM
The so called "booing" in Toronto, at a Raptors/Pistons game in February is misleading. The guy singing the anthem screwed it up, and had to stop half way through because he didn't know the words. The crowd was booing the singer and his lack of respect/competence for disrespecting the Yankee anthem. There was no booing of Americans in Toronto. You have to remember, we Canucks get our toques in a knot over any percieved 'slight' by Americans. It's our national duty to freak out over stupid stuff. That being said, its very poor timing on the part of some Detroit fans, as we are in national mourning for our four brave soilders who gave their lives because of some dumbass National Air Guard reserve. Small arms fire = Drop a 250kg bomb on a training area. And the fact that Dubya hasn't said enough in the opinion of most Canucks about the incident.

2002-04-22 03:24:55 PM
Hella lame, hella lame...

Totally in bad form to go booing another country's national anthem, but I gotta agree with imperfect up above...it's not a major deal, it's just some really stupid people with no class at all.

I'd never do this, and probably 80% or more of the ones booing would have been up in arms had the situation been reversed. It's that whole "do unto others" thing that no one seems to get.

Why on earth would we boo Afghanistan?

Darius: Yeah, im sure im the first one to inadvertently repeat things said earlier in a thread. thank you Captain Obvious. Lamer.

CanuckGuy: been to windsor lately? not too many "American lard-asses" clogging up the streets around the casino since Detroit built a few of their own, in fact, windsor has been crying in their beers lately about the lack of american $$ flowing in these days. typical - you hate us but you love the hell out of our money.

No, of course Detroit is about as far away from perfect as you can get. many parts of it stink and look like runaway ass. but Detroit hardly has a monopoly on urban decay, and there are plenty of worthwhile things going on if you know where to look. in fact, detroit is at the forefront of movements in both art and music in the last few years.

and by the way - the wings beat the awesome canucks last night - guess you all missed that one - and vancouver fans booed the star spangled banner before the game. what a shock.

2002-04-22 03:28:52 PM
who cares,
nationalism is retarded

2002-04-22 03:31:18 PM
I've been to many games in Toronto, and NEVER was the anthem booed. I watch Canadian NHL games religiously, and the only time I have ever seen the US anthem booed was last year in Vancouver which was due to an article by Woody Paige of the Denver Post. He went far beyond slamming the Vancouver Canucks, rather the whole country of Canada. The opposite happened in Colorado when they booed the Canadian anthem. It then spread to New Jersey when they booed the anthem when they played the Leafs, and then to the Raptors-Knicks series when in New York it was booed. How did the crowd in Toronto respond? They cheered the U.S. anthem. I remember that very well. Show's you who's classy. I guarantee it'll happen again.

Canadian Farkers
Please accept my apologies for the behavior of
the Detroit fans. Especially in light of the
sacrafices that your country is making fighting
shoulder to shoulder with us. I am disgusted along
with you.

Thats it. No jokes.

Booing any national anthem is lame.

I went to yesterday's Expos game and thankfully nobody booed either of them. Actually, a large number of Americans showed up to see the number one team defeat the Mets. ;) Anyway, some guys from New Hampshire we met on the Metro who were in town for the Dave Mathews show were a lot nicer than most of the guys on fark. I guess the ability to post online annonymously serves as an outlet for anybody whose parents just refused to give an early allowance.

It never gets old when people come in and say Canada sucks because our money isn't green.

---
On a side note, does anyone know why the crowd booed Mo Vaughn every time he came to the plate? I was kinda at a loss as to why they did it.

2002-04-22 04:36:58 PM
Schmack: Detroit is a $hithole and will always be a $hithole. The people (if you can call them that) that give it such a bad image are without equal. I have never met a more obnoxious, foul-tempered, ill-mannered, UNEDUCATED, bunch of pricks in my life.

The city has nothing to offer except urban decay.

I lived there four years and I can truly say the happiest day of my life was when I crossed the city limits for the last time headed away. I won't even take a flight with a layover in Detroit.

This latest example of the allure of Detroilet is nothing new. What's wrong with a city where the citizens try to burn it down on Halloween.

I say let em.

2002-04-22 04:38:17 PM
The only reasonable explanation for booing any country's national anthem is if Roseanne is singing it.
