There's all manner of wierd shiat going on down here right now. OK - there is an eminent domain case going on in Winter Park. A developer has like 5 run down tenement he wants the city to enact eminent domain on, so the state has to buy them from him. He's effectively doing this to himself, so he can unload the properties, because he can't do it any other way. Then, once the state buys them, he wants the state to pay him to redevelop the property. I am not shiatting you.

In Winter Garden, the city is trying to raise property taxes in order to build a 10 million dollar parking garage for a mall they want built. NO ONE wants this mall. Its a scream that the city wants to charge the residents to build this parking garage, to service this mall, on private property. You'd think they'd have the developers do it - huh?

You guys have no idea how farked up Kelo has made things for everyone down here. Its seriously farked up. Mel Martinez, a few local Democratic House Reps and a Dem Senator are all working to end this shiat. I'm on a lot of peoples mailing lists, and this appears to be item #1. Jeb Bush is also going to have the state Legislature tighten up the existing laws we have against ED for economic developement.
